Estimates go as low as 977 million people have notions of English. Or up to 1.5 billion.
The average googling for "how many people speak English" gets to One in Five in the world. So only 80% of the world has no notion of English at all...
By the way, Google Zeitgeist shows that about half of their visitors use Googles English interface. So i estimate that about half of the FC2 users will need the 4th CD.
Eros is an asteroid, not a comet. Asteroids circle the sun more or less like planets, comets go much further, come back a lot faster and sometimes get much closer to the sun. NEAR was a great mission, but much simpler than Rosetta.
And here i was thinking that South East Asia is where most people live and where the fastest growing economy is.
But off course you mean that USA companies also need a chinese domain name...to not be limited to the few people on this world that only speak english.
Remember, when writing to an MEP that they are real persons, usually with real lives and real interest in making a better Europe.
So be polite, be very clear on the subject, be fair.
Several weeks ago i wrote an e-mail to 15 Belgian MEP's and some of them replied. From those replies i understood that they are very aware of the subject (yes some MEP's really are very intelligent).
Apart from giving the NYT your e-mail addy for spam purposes, what real point is there to free registration?
I always use a different address to register online in the form of website@mydomain. I registered with the NYT in 1999, I never received a single spam on this address.
I agree with this completely. However, they still have quite a ways to go, right?
Yes, that's right! But they are going in a good direction. I'm afraid that the Bush/Rumsfeld/Oil Companies Administration will entangle themself in the whitehouse for many years to come.
I also agree with you that it will take more than 5 years for China and India to become comparable to the US. I just wanted to point out that this will become 'clear' in about 5 years. A lot of people still look at China as a poor developing country, but they are steadily becoming a BIG spacefaring, bio, techno, state of the art industry.
if you had the power would you turn back time and put Saddam back?
That is not for me to answer, but for the Iraqi people. I think that the US did not invade Iraq to end a dictatorship, but rather to have a military base in the Middle East. The US needs this base because the opposition against US presence in Saudi Arabia became stronger (too strong).
I also hope that attacking Iraq did not create new anti-US terrorrists.
You missed my point. My point is not that the US is perfect, my point is that the alternative is worse.
I got that point, I disagree! I don't trust the Bush administration. I just don't see any good things from the US anymore. Bush is isolating the US from 'old Europe', Bush spends even more money on military power, and i can go on and on.
I do see a lot of positive change in China. I know that in the 80-ies China was a very bad communist dictatorship with violent student protests. But the past couple of years, i've been following chinese news-sites and forums more closely, and i see a lot of positive comments from Chinese students. I also noticed that most of the 'old' regime fropm 80-ies China is replaced by much younger and much more open leaders.
The only reason China signed Kyoto was that it contained no obligations for them whatsoever. None. This is by the way what the US reacted upon.
In proportion to population and surface, Kyoto contains the exact same obligations for everyone. Or is it because the USA is polluting a lot more than everyone else nowadays, that you get the right to keep on doing this ?
Tibet? Tibet was invaded 54 years ago, Iraq was invaded 3 months ago. Are you really comparing these ? The Chinese government of today is not the same as 53 years ago. I'm talking about 21st century events, otherwise i could bring up US 60-ies racism etcetera.
The difference is that the US has the most sophisticated equipment; but that is no reason to wish for other countries to get more sophisticated equipment also.
What?! THAT most definitely is THE reason for other countries to get more sophisticated equipment also.
On another note, I believe that within five years, it will be clear that the USA cannot stay the sole superpower on this earth. I foresee a strong growth for United Europe, China, India and Brasil. The world will become a better place then.
Are you from the US ? I'm not, and I much rather have superiority from a country that does not emprison people on Guantanamo without trial, and that does not discard worldwide treaties like Kyoto and the International courtsystem, and does not invade other countries without a valid reason, and does not spy with echelon on my industry...etc.
I read some more interesting facts in paper newspaper;-)
According to my newspaper (www.standaard.be) today, humans around 150.000 years ago started out as a small group of 700 people. For a couple of centuries this number stayed around 700, until a group migrated to the north (Sahara). That Sahara group had around 2700 individuals.
So we all descent from those 700 people...interesting.

This war is very scary for the 20-something-million iraqi people that will suffer the effect of bombs/rockets/missiles/no electricity/no water etc maybe it's a good thing that this thread becomes the largest in slashdot history...because this is 'stuff that matters'
I don't know what you mean by average use. Back in 2000 we had about 18 of those Thinkpad 600 laptops, some owners are developers, other are sales, other are managers. ALL of the batteries were replaced within one year, and again most of them a second time within the next year.
I still have this laptop (Pentium 2-266), attached to the power. I'm not buying a third battery for it, it really is too expensive.
On the other hand, nothing but good comments on the Thinkpad series!
You are probably right, but i'm very very sure that i remember the birth of my sister. I was 2 years, eight months old that day, but i definitely remember it.
I also have earlier memories that i cannot date that well. e.g. I remember my dad on a motorcycle, he got rid of it before my sisters birth. I remember kicking a ball for the first time. I remember my dad carrying me to the hospital where my mother was. and more...
I'm very sure they are real memories, not stories that people told me.
i think i remember some stuff because they made a great impression on me at that time. (dad was leaving on the motorcycle, i had to give toys to 'little sister' right when she was born, etc).
I'm not a good writer so I'll copy your comment, and replace VB with MCT...
The only reason i use Windows is because i teach Windows NT/2000 courses as a Microsoft MCT. And the reason i teach this, is because it pays well (and it's easy to teach!).
I'm good at teaching, but making money as a linux teacher is not that easy.

no it shouldn't ...i was thinking about his bank account...
shouldn't that be 800.000/50.000.000.000 = 0,0016% ?

Does anybody else think it would be a good idea if the life of a patent were shortened...
Please no, i have this bright idea of starting a company to patent DRM.
Shares anyone ?
