I love what I study. And I study very specific things(B Prosthetics/Orthotics, and got 2 years to go to get my B Electronic Eng/M Biomedical Eng).

But I also believe it takes more than specific knowledge to make it. I want to go into management. Engineering is a step towards that. Being able to talk to doctors, surgeons, and engineers in their own language is something that can help me towards that. If there is anyone qualified to advise or direct on engineering matters, it should be people with engineering(or related fields) experience. And it seems to be rarer, and rarer finding people who can balance the two.

Problem is, if people haven't put in as much work understanding that, then for the most part they simply can't comprehend what it means, and fall by the wayside. Knowledge and skills, are tools to achieve your goal.

    Interesting ideas about creativity.

How do you put things together without constraints?

This is similar to the idea of joints. they have varying degrees of mobility and stability. The more mobile, the less stable, and vice versa.

Lego has constraints, but also allows flexibility through varying parts, and multiple pieces. Though not as flexible in some ways as meccano or kinexx, they are more flexible in others.

Creativity I would presume comes from what you can create with the resources you have at your disposal. What stops someone from blending multiple parts together, or chopping or moulding new parts. My guess would be creativity.

I grew up kinda poor, and my first introduction to modular tessalated building was my parents giving me clothes pegs. I was able to build lots of stuff, out of just cheap plastic pegs.

This was before I even heard of lego. I know from then on, I cherished every lego, meccano, capsula, fischer tecnik I could get my hands on, because each has its own constraints, and each chhallenges creativity in a different way.

I guess what I am saying is, that creativity is not in the tools/toys you are using, but in how you apply yourself to thinking/creating with those tools.

Nowadays, I know how to put people together again, along with computers and electronics(see my profile). Sure I get frustrated with the limited tech at our disposal, but it only pushes me to go further with what there is. In other words, getting creative...

One of the best ways is to get a pizza box enclosure. This allows you to protect the notebook as closely as possible, but also allows you to place the pizzabox bag into a proper back pack.

This means that the bag you use won't be as easily recognisable as a laptop backpack(ie anything that says targus), and it allows you to use a bag that is both properly ergonomic for travel. If you want to use it later on as just a normal backpack then just remove the pizza box enclosure.

This is what i do with my 12 inch ibook. I use a STM bag. I bought it from here at www.streetwise.com.au. Then I can shift it into my backpack for riding, or a travel pack for when i travel around the country, or even throw it into a carry pack when just walking to work.

And if I was ever to get a proper laptop bag then i will buy the next size up, so that it can carry the pizza box enclosure. Gotta protect those assets.....

Lets also take into account that there are also other medical conditions that are becoming more prevalent that actually require a lot more attention given to protecting the foot. An example of this is diabetes. When the microangiopathy begins to occur and the perrson loses sensation to due to breakdown of the nerves, they can't feel their feet, and the reduced blood flow can't repair small damage like it used to, then real problems start to occur, like amputation.

I've worked with patients that come from rural areas and they refuse to wear shoes, and while they can accept the progressive amputation, I feel somewhat regret at their ignorance for not wearing shoes when told to...

But if you think thats me just trying to sell stuff, then I can accept that. I know that I will accept the medical evidence that shows that wearing shoes is beneficial, and others can do or believe what they want.

  18. Shoe selection on Airport and Foot Friendly Trade Show Shoes? · · Score: 5, Informative

I am a prosthetist/orthotist. (I'm now studying EE to get my Masters in Biomed, but thats beside the point)

When I am looking for a good shoe there a few things to test.

I look for a reasonable sized toe box. This is the part where your toes are and is the front part of the shoe. This gives my toes plenty of space and does not constrict or deform the toes.

I also then check that the upper actually grips on to my foot when done up. A lot of problems can actually occur because this is not done up correctly and the foot slips forward to allow the toes to slam into the end of the shoe.

I then make sure that there is reasonable heel control in the heel cup. This will help the shoe grip around you foot and assist with stability.

And probably the other main checkpoint is that the toe break is in the right spot. This can be hard to pick if you don't have any training, but some sales assistant may be able to help you if they have been trained. Lucky I know how after spending time at uni :)

There are a few other things to look for when buying shoes, but these are the main ones that I tell patients.

Personally I also check the sole, and the heel composition to make sure that they will blend into my personal biomechanical requirements, but this is another thing that is hard to explain in a few short lines of text.

I also like to wear insoles that are adapted to my feet and help smooth out the foot/shoe interface. Though there is nothing wrong with my feet, a good insole is very very comfortable.

And to help you get the right assistance, see a prosthetist/orthotist for further information.
