Bush wants to be President-for-life (ever thought of that?)
Here's the formula. It started during Nixon, but really gained steam in '94 with Republican control of Congress. Then they weakened Clinton with a bogus impeachment process. Fox News was created as the propaganda arm, and they strongarmed all the other news agencies like CNN to follow suit. By purchasing public radio and granting corporate control of the message, they grew the noise machine preceding the elections in 2000. Then they stole 2000, and had control of the 3 branches of government.
Everything since then has been weakening the powers of the Legislative Branch, and bolstering the Unitary Executive...the 2 SC appointments effectively put the court into their pockets, so anything they do will receive a favorable ruling. The next step was to weaken the military, and form a merc force (seen in New Orleans as a training exercise - the NG is in Iraq), while giving their corporate cronies all the money in tax breaks and no-bid contracts. Fascism at its finest. Bush has set up the rules to suspend elections, and everything they've done has had a purpose. What makes you think he intends to leave office? However unpopular he may sound, it is pretty clear that they don't think they will have to leave office if there is, say, another Pearl Harbor type event...and it was noted during the latest capitulation over FISA by the Democrats that these folks intend to either plan one, or let one happen.
The Republicans have conceded the victory, as have all the facts. She is going to have a hard time because of the contentious election, yes, but there is no longer any issue with her being elected.
Anybody in a sysadmin position should know that they have the keys to the company, and because of that, the company has to be very careful about how they release you. As an IT Professional, I absolutely expect the following if I am terminated by the company:
1) While I'm in the meeting, all my access is cut off. I give them my key card to enter the building, and any keys I have to company assets.
2) I receive a check from them for the work I've completed, plus any vacation time left.
3) I am escorted to my desk, my system is already logged out - any personal data or information on my system is my responsibility, they don't need to give it back to me, but it would be courteous for them to offer to burn me a CD or DVD of my stuff. I am allowed to pack any personal books/photos/etc. into a box and
4) I am walked to the door by someone who is responsible to make sure that I actually leave the premesis.
This is in the event of a BAD termination. I expect a few more courteous steps if I quit or am laid off for financial reasons.
Any IT professional should expect this type of treatment. It is not discourteous, it is professional and appropriate. People who get their feathers ruffled because of this type of thing should check their egos...
One argument against you, although I appreciate your point, is that schoolyard politics come into play. Survival depends on a number of things, and being intellectually more capable won't help anyone staring down the barrel of a shotgun at some podunk inbred who would prefer you dead. One of the things the bullies have learned is that controlling the military can do wonders...look who controls the military, the police, etc.. It isn't bleeding heart liberals. In fact, liberals tend to be more peace-loving and pacifistic - when the bully comes around, brains don't help much except soften the blow from getting tossed in a trash can. Educated folks may need to learn how to kill people, unfortunately, to survive.
I think a part of the hostility is that, as a scientist, and also as part of a community of people who do NOT practice religion the same way this faction of Christians does, members of this community are offended by what looks like (to me at least) a trip back into the Middle Ages.
These people are using a belief system to justify killing off the scientific method, essentially. They are not telling the story of the Earth Mother, giving birth to the Great Bear Warrior - they're trying to get people to believe in their God, their religion, as opposed to accepting our advances in science and technology.
I don't believe their version of events, but I have scientific theory and years of study and evidence that leads me to understand evolution. Wrapping religious or spiritual beliefs into the world of reality is easier than giving up what we see and making up some reason why it exists because of God. Their God isn't my God, and if they're going to take evolution out of the classroom, then they'd better put something besides the Judeo Christian story of Adam and Eve in its place (or Intelligent Design). Hostility breeds hostility in response.
Some spyware is really vicious. A huge problem is protecting the Enterprise from this. I work for a small company, so the licensing of Adaware and Spybot prevent me from installing this on our systems without violating their EULA. We have an alleged spyware protector in our antivirus program, but it is useless.
I own a copy of Pest Patrol, but if you can't clean it with Adaware&Spybot, you're hosed. Pest Patrol's web site, however, rocks. They have a ton of information on how to clean up these bots.
I've had great success with CWSShredder, and it is beneficial to use HijackThis! as well.
I would prefer it if I didn't get hijacked in the first place...IE has overstayed its welcome, IMO.
It appears to me and many of my friends that you develop this great story and characters, then you pull a "Bladerunner" on us and toss a dove up in front of the Bonaventure and the book is over. Cryptonomicon is better than Snow Crash, but it still relies on the final few pages to pull the 900 pages together in the end. Do you get this kind of feedback ever, or notice it yourself?
Have an infant with your significant other. You can be the hero for letting your SigO sleep while you hold the wide-awake baby in the wee hours, your friends don't need sleep anyways, and you can bond with your offspring.
Molson has a very good use, actually: Get it ice cold, I mean just under "slush" state, and pour some hot water (not cold) into your bong. Take a massive toke and cannonball it with a swig of Molson...You'd be amazed at how great it tastes.
I've found that brews like Maredsous are also good, and high in alcohol content. My personal, "six pack" beer is Full Sail Amber Ale from Hood River, Oregon. I don't drink much alcohol anymore because it made me fat...but I still love a good beer.
If you want an excellent IPA, try to find some Lagunitas IPA. The hops flavor is impressive.
Those little, white DT bottles are still pretty cool...
Official statement from a Comcast representative when they blocked my remote user's VPN appliance from connecting to our network (he lives out of DSL range, and his attbi service was working just fine until Comcast took over):
"Comcast Internet services are for entertainment purposes only, therefore, you will no longer be able to run your VPN over our network."
I would imagine that the Entertainment portion of the Internet includes hunting down downloaders and such. Gotta love it, "Entertainment purposes only..."
I was looking at the traffic on Highway 1 in the LA area during a break in the basketball game last night. All the traffic was heading in one direction, gridlocked, while the opposite direction was virtually empty. I thought, "Hey, what if they had some sort of automatic cone or barrier that could move over a few lanes, to accommodate the traffic moving one direction?" Maybe it isn't that far off...
Yeah, honey, just pop on out to the command line, and I'll show you how to configure TCP/IP, and then we can configure the device drivers! You only need to know a little bit of code...which I won't tell you, it is located online, super easy to find.
that this is believable by many people. In fact, I'm willing to bet that the prospect has been considered already. Of course, it has nothing to do with liberating Iraq, so it didn't get the proper attention by the Bush administration...
I've noticed a lot of use of the term "Liberal" lately to pigeonhole just about anyone who is to the left of the far right, including moderates, centrists, and, of course, leftists. Do you think the media and "conservative" personalities have turned this monniker into a meme, and if so, what do you think it may do to the causes of anyone but the far right?
Ha! They have to put it on us to fix the price for them selling out...used to be that they could sign a fat contract to a record company for that.
So if social engineering works, who will pay the most for it? Who will pay the least?

I was under the impression that it was the fan noise that made him go nuts...if this is an 80/20 solution to that, I guess it would work out OK.

You know, like tapping the touchpad for selection and double clicking...
The single button on macs is so stupid, I can't stand it. Such beautiful machines too...
Just wonderin' if Balco will help out...

DT is a fine ale, indeed. It is much better than Duvel - and Affligem Tripel...please.
I would recommend trying Fin du Monde if you want to contest your taste buds...I find it to be superior to DT in many ways.
Getting my P800 to recognize vi graffiti? Weird.

although I prefer the definition from the original Deities and Demigods book.
and while you're at it, here's my banking info...I won't need the money anymore.
XP, actually, I've seen crashes on several of their smaller screens. Same concept, different scale.

I'm sitting in one I got for freeeeee right now. I'd pay for one, too. Worth every penny.
