This is one of the reasons I think it would be so cool to have a hardware solution for encryption built into the mainboard or cpu of modern machines. Only problem is people always get their panties in a twist when anything like that appears:(

And IBM's linux offering on mainframes seems as absurd to me as spending the money for a twin-turbo porsche and then asking for vinyl seats because you don't like the feel of real leather.
Absurd?! I DON'T like the feel of real leather... give me the vinyl!
I had to pay $20 a week for 10 weeks to a drug rehabilitation program because I got caught with 2 grams of weed. This program had struck a deal with the state to get the courts to do this. I'm sick and tired of corporate welfare.
All of those problems are well know. Just doing a tiny bit of research on this card before throwing away all that money would have saved you a LOT of headaches. Don't go buy hardware you don't know anything about (reading what the maker of that card has to say means nothing). Come to think of it.. why did you NOT research such a pricey piece of hardware first? If you want hardware raid go with 3ware or adaptec. Promise always has been a waste.
Nothing like red tape to solve problems! Look and see how many people in Sweden would like to live in the US versus how many people in the US would like to live in Sweden.
Hmm... is this a trick question? It's surely not a large sampling... but I live in the US and am considering Sweden as one of the places to move to to get out of this god forsaken country. On top of that, the 4 swedish guys I know online at least all realize that especially now, with a moron redneck republican in the oval office, a republican controlled congress, and fine, republican appointed or friendly justices in the supreme court (that as of late seem to have the power to choose the president...), that the US is the LAST place on earth they wanna go.
Perhaps it's not the general attitude, however I'd place money on it being the attitude of the informed segment of the population.
Also, with the keyboard folded up like that, if you left the unit alone for a few days in disuse, wouldn't the top half of the screen get dusty leaving the lower half of the screen clean? That would really get annoying over time.
Call me crazy, but I clean my screen with a moist towel and some windex usually once a day. See it's pretty neat.. 'cause if it gets dirty... it can be cleaned...
Perhaps you should focus less on your negative feelings about me (no doubt brought on by me pointing out faults you don't like to accept). There are some out there who think a 3rd party without any sort of emotional involvement will have a clearer picture and be more qualified to make judgements. You can call me a troll all day if you'd like.. won't change anything.
As far as your idea of constructive criticism goes, I believe that's your job. You can take my criticism and try to understand it and learn from it, or you can just get upset and accuse people of being trolls... either way I have the seemingly unique gift of not giving a shit.
Hope this helps you discover the source of that nerve I hit and to deal with it.
How dare you to presume to know better than either of us that you would know better? Do you think you are the only person here who has been in a serious relationship and had a fight during the relationship? Only a few amount of socially inept people enjoy getting into fights with people they love, and those of us who don't handle it in a variety of ways. Sometimes we don't handle it well at all, and this guy didn't. The problem is he can't even recognize it in hindsight.
The best resolution to a fight imho is when you call the girl, and you hear dialing on the line only to realize she picked up the phone a split second before it ringed to call YOU. Then you both admit to being short sided and stupid and make up. Too bad it doesn't always work that way.
Oh and btw, I'm really offended by your arrogance... just so you know.
So you just used.. 6 semi-paragraphs to explain that vector graphics are a lil' more complicated and can possibly be slower than png rendering? Big deal.
When rendering any vector format, there are many dependencies. Is AA enabled? Which AA algorithm was used? Are they using a scanline renderer, or actually rasterizing each vector regardless of its impact?
I'm assuming this is a list of things that can impact the speed of rendering. If that is the case, what is your point of making this list... ?.. I've read and re-read your post and I still can't make out the point you are trying to make. My best guess would be that vector graphics can be faster or slower than rendering a plain bitmap. In that case I don't understand WHY you are making that point.
Yes a bitmap can be tossed onto the screen pretty quickly, but SVG is much more complex and customizable. The implies a speed hit. If we aren't going to try and develop new technologies to do niftier and nicer things with then why are we trying to develop faster computers? To use your video card analogy you could say "why use multipass texturing with customized shaders when single pass generic texturing is faster?" There are some people out there (like me) who think it'd be pretty cool having computers with interfaces like the ones on the Final Fantasy movie. I like KDE's drop shadows and translucent menus. I like anti-aliasing text. I LIKE SVG.
Bring it on.
(Oh and btw... flash the fastest vector based renderer? Make big claims much?)
Disclaimer: IANAVGKIAG (I am not a vector graphics know it all guy)
But... seems to me any decently evolved vector graphics technology would do exactly what you are suggesting. How much do you know about SVG anyways (and if you don't know much about it why are you commenting on it like this)?
I'm doing a study to try and determine why some people appear to be born without a sense of humor. Care to participate? You seem like a perfect candidate.
Remember back in the day when smurf.c and fraggle.c were very rare and highly sought after files? Every packet kidddie tried to build himself the biggest and best "bcast list." Well... someone had a great idea. Lets build a public bcast list... the best one.. so they did. They listed the top rated (worst offenders) networks that responded to broadcast ping requests. Suddenly every packet kiddie that knew where to look had the best bcast list he could get a hold of, and guess what happened to those miserably configured networks at the top of the list? >:)
Anyways... I'm wondering is something similar could be done with open smtp relays. Rate them based on available bandwidth a spammer can abuse.
Sooo let me get this straight.. you and your gf got into a fight. You decided to act like a woman and give the silent treatement. She took the high ground and actually tried to contact you. Then you "decide" to "finally" contact her (gee how big of you), and it's the spams fault? Perhaps you should reevaluate the "it's not my fault" position you have currently. Seems to me it wasn't her job to get in contact with out in any way neccessary while you just waited.
Please be careful saying this... they might get some funny ideas and stop catering to the power user:( Everyone else seems to think this is a good idea somehow.
It's obvious you're missing something, because obviously there are people out there who'd rather run those apps on a linux system. Otherwise efforts wouldn't be near as popular as they are now to make it happen.
All I can speak for is myself, however I'd be willing to bet there are those out there who feel the same way I do. I don't want to buy windows to run office on because I don't want to run or use windows. Linux, to me, is much more "user friendly" in its own complex way. Office is just an application. The OS I want to run it on (I actually don't want to run it at all) is linux because that is my OS of choice. It's as simple as that.
As for your price argument, crossover office doesn't cost near that much, and iirc vanilla wine is now capable of running office. It just doesn't have a nice interface to do it with. So Gentoo Linux + wine = free. These distributions provide the same kind of service crossover office does, the put everything together in a nice tidy little package. Some of them charge for the extras.
Not all of us use linux just because it is free... there are much larger issues (large in the context of computer science) behind our selection.
As for your full linux compatibility with cygwin-kde.... where the hell did that come from? KDE is NOT linux. Cygwin is NOT KDE. Cygwin is a "linux compatibility layer" for windows. It's very similar in function to wine in linux, and just like wine in linux, it's not 100%. Oh and one more thing... cygwin not kde, kde not cygwin, kde not linux.
