    Wheels.We've got racks in tight corners, and the solution was to put the rack on wheels, and a lot of slack on everything going to the rack.

    Keep in mind that the diagonal of a square is longer than the side. Leave room to rotate without mashing hands.

    Ditto here. Failed the "spouse test". Ugly color, and the brightness swings wildly depending on temperature. I have one in the garage, and every time I go out there I am reminded that I will never buy another CFL bulb. I remain skeptical on LED bulbs.

    Put another way, if they were selling a bulb for $60 that gave *free* light for 1 to 18 years, would you buy it? I don't think I would... light bulbs use so little power, and there are other areas with a much greater bang for the buck.

    I've always thought that intelligence was the result of an optimized system. Sure, any of a thousand genes can decrease intelligence- they decrease optimization. If all of the thousands of genes are set right, you get a system working properly, and hopefully high intelligence.

    To look for a single gene that controls intelligence is like looking for the single part that solves performance issues in all computers everywhere.

    Put another way, what's the one gene that controlls health? Hey look, a gene that causes cancer if it's mutated. Behold- the health gene!

    I thought this was obvious. Gasoline & battery aren't the only ways to make a car go.

    Take this factory option Natural Gas Civic for example:

    With a little work, there's also Hydrogen, compressed air (for really short ranges), and there's always the totally renewable option of burning wood in steam powered cars. Not ver convienient, but it *is* an option.

    -Document how a rainbow looks, compaired to a photo at the same time frame. Maybe skeetch/paint something for the rest of us to understand!
    -My first thought was to find UV ink, for secret notes. Not sure if such a thing exists....
    -Do any TV remotes work on UV instead of IR?
    -Some plain old UV LED's wold make for a good night-light that burglers can't see. As others have noted, keep the intensity low!

    As long as the solution to the fast "refuel" problem is "just drive your 2nd car", EV's will remain a luxury purchase for the wealthy with guilty eco consciences.

    I want a single car to replace my single car. I don't want to have to pay insurance, plates, repairs, maintenance on an extra vehicle. That's saving no money, and not "saving the planet" if that's your thing.

    I want an EV because it's: (1) Cool new tech with cool new features, and (2) A lot cheaper per mile*.

    * - Unless you factor in battery pack replacement every x years, plus the inevitable per-mile taxes to replace gas tax.

    I cut the cord, oh, 4 or 5 years ago. Judging by the comments here, lots of other folks have too.

    What's more interesting, is that I haven't seen or heard of people who have cut the cord - and later gone back. Skimming over 50 comments here show only 1 person thinking about it. That's something the cable companies should be terrified to hear. Once you switch to streaming, people don't want to go back.

    And the media companies are scratching their heads wondering by BlueRay isn't more popular....

    Very good question. The mentioned ToiletPaperWorld.com link has at best, 4,000 foot rolls. There must be some products not offered on the web site -OR- they got away with gluing/taping/bonding multiple rolls together.

    I've never lived in a state that does emissions inspections. I suspect that's a small minority of states that do that kind of thing. And besides, we all know odometers are unhackable and totally tamper proof. *cough*

    And back on topic - I'm all for a "miles traveled tax" - but only of 100% of all gas taxes are forever repealed. I refuse to get double-taxed for driving a car that can go more than 40 miles in the summer, 20 miles in a winter. (Actual numbers from someone I know with a Volt.)

    I beg to differ. As stated in a different reply, Netflix is about 1.8gb per movie. I have 3 kids in the house who respectively like Thomas The Tank Engine, Sesame Street, and Pengu. Now, not counting any movies my wife or I may watch, that 150gb cap means 2.7 shows per day - none of that in the peak evening times.

    I will be hitting the cap, and I will be researching alternatives.

    Sadly, I fear that all this will mean is that only the most tech-savvy households will even notice - and thus AT&T will lose only the heavy network users. They get what they want, and few notice.

    From what I gather, we're stuck somewhere in the middle-ish of the universe. What if were were located near the "edge" of the expanding universe, and the "edge" was within our observable light cone. What would we see? Nothing? or is the "edge" of the universe expanding faster than the speed of light, therefore one could never see the "edge"?

    This type of question comes up a lot. How do I store for the long term?

    Simple answer. Have it spinning on disk (or flash, or SSD, or...) and live accessable, plus an off-site backup.

    Any off-line media will at some point be unreadable. Keep it accessable & live, and migrate it each time you upgrade your system.

    Sure, I've got a few 5.25" floppies around, but how to read them? Keep it spinning & live.

    Yes. At least on EDGE, if you're actively using data, your phone won't ring. Surfing, Pandora, YouTube- whatever. If you're using your phone, it won't ring while you're on an EDGE network.

    Don't believe me? Google for it. Lots of us have this problem.
