Viral is right... Their emulation will have a EULA clause in it stating they may install LRM software. (Linux Removal Manager) and install Windows in it's place...
I wouldn't mod this message up to a '4' here's why...
>1) Offer no support
Where's the problem here? Support costs money.
>2) Send you broken items and charge a 25% "restocking" to return them
Well this sucks... Time to go to reseller ratings...
>3) Not send anything at all and claim loss in shipping
This can't happen. Contact that company's courier. (They have records of the package being delivered or lost. If package is lost, shipping is refunded to the sender.)
>4) Any number of other sleazy tactics
There are fools out there. Use a credit card that has a good charge back policy.
If cable companies have no customers they'll reduce rates or give up. Or maybe this is time for more companies to spring up as providers. Competition is awesome
UPS does have a (800) number that costs money. Each call costs money. Explain to the representatives that if you don't get your claim you will just keep calling. Calculate each call to equal about $10 (approx. 15 mins on the phone.). Things start adding up quick!
I find it usefull to let them know your just gonna keep calling until you get your way.
I did have a terrible time forcing Mandrake-Linux to install on my Gateway 5300. But Redhat worked great. (Text mode only though)
But once installed it brought a tear to my eye!
Here's a website I created as a sort of review. (Had some issues with StarOffice other users may run into with an S3 vid card.) http://www.on-point-tech.com/rh5300/
Hey, as my subject indicates. I was just recently laid off from Gateway. Having worked in the technical support department, I have worked on a lot of Laptops. They are not usually replaced until you have been serviced plenty of times. It does help to write the CEO. And no email. Write, Write, Write!!! Type a letter, hand-write, everyday. Explain everything in detail and how you simply believe the issue would be resolved by replacement. Don't give in until your satisfied.
"...Somebody's got to pay for that, or it just won't happen. What do you find so wrong about sharing part of that cost--and what would you suggest as an alternative?"
Who will share in my cost in purchasing content? I want to see it in my pocket not everyone elses...
My G-Ma is over 70 and bought her first computer this week online... (With help of course.)
I find games she likes help her in using her mouse... (Solitare, Slingo, Freecell...) As far as the WWW-Browsing... That is still coming along... Baby steps... We all didn't learn everything over night either....
If so many lines of code are already in Linux, which is freely available to view. What's the hold up for SCO to disclose their Source without a NDA?
If it's true verbatim, then secret is out right!?
