    Where's the problem here? Support costs money.

    Well this sucks... Time to go to reseller ratings...

    This can't happen. Contact that company's courier. (They have records of the package being delivered or lost. If package is lost, shipping is refunded to the sender.)

    >4) Any number of other sleazy tactics

    There are fools out there. Use a credit card that has a good charge back policy.

    UPS does have a (800) number that costs money. Each call costs money. Explain to the representatives that if you don't get your claim you will just keep calling. Calculate each call to equal about $10 (approx. 15 mins on the phone.). Things start adding up quick!

    I find it usefull to let them know your just gonna keep calling until you get your way.

    I did have a terrible time forcing Mandrake-Linux to install on my Gateway 5300. But Redhat worked great. (Text mode only though)
    But once installed it brought a tear to my eye!

    Hey, as my subject indicates. I was just recently laid off from Gateway. Having worked in the technical support department, I have worked on a lot of Laptops. They are not usually replaced until you have been serviced plenty of times. It does help to write the CEO. And no email. Write, Write, Write!!! Type a letter, hand-write, everyday. Explain everything in detail and how you simply believe the issue would be resolved by replacement. Don't give in until your satisfied.

    Open a terminal, (pass strings to your modem)

    Some common commands are:
    Rockwell chipset: AT-SDR=7
    Conexant chipset: AT+VDR=1,5
    Lucent chipset: AT+VDR=1,10
    US Robotics chipset: ATS41=1

    My G-Ma is over 70 and bought her first computer this week online... (With help of course.) I find games she likes help her in using her mouse... (Solitare, Slingo, Freecell...) As far as the WWW-Browsing... That is still coming along... Baby steps... We all didn't learn everything over night either....
