'i was once stalked by tis one girl who did this extensivly '
sounds like chick had some issues... anybody who send that much msg traffic is either insecure, or just plain psycho....
don't let me go off about the chick i once knew who had multiple IM accounts and claimed to not be that said person..... ok i gotta tell this one... mod me down or whatever, but anyway...
chick posted a personal ad, we hooked up, things didnt work out, time goes by. i see her again on the ad's, same picture, etc etc... i msg her bla bla bla...she's like 'oh, im not such n such, im her best friend by the same name, and we look alike too...'... this chick was psycho. she also one time claimed to be her own 'sister' and started messing with my current gf...she has wierd delusions
You are totally wrong. The baby-boomer generation and or their parents who you claim is the target market for this type of thing is hardly even a factor these days. Read any marketing magazine and you'll see, the kids rule. Billion of dollars are being thrown at the supposed 'Generation Y' children...why? Because their numbers are huge... And statisticaly, they are usually computer literate...not the techno-phobic types of people you claim are supposed to buy these things....
they didnt sell because they were crap, plain and simple
..of blatant negligence on Palm's part, or a case of corporate stupidity, or a little of both?
If they prove that Palm knowingly sent out these devices knowing they could toast h/w, then unleash the hounds...but if it was a simple oversight (which is highly unlikely), well thats where things get interesting....
personally, i think we're getting a little too sue happy these days...
Please, in the interest of free speech, just don't read this if you feel the need to mod it down, otherwise read on...
i am quite tired of some of the people on this site who are quick to criticize slashdot for having downtime. I am willing to bet these same people probably have not had to face a pissed off boss and manager breathing down your kneck while trying to revive a mission critical server that is "not supposed to fail".
And these same people probably don't realize that halph your down time is for describing to your boss why some , very expensive mind you, servers that are "not supposed to fail" are in pieces on the floor.
these same people, would probably hide in the corner mindless chanting 'all your base are belong to us' while hoping the men with the white coats dont come....
..from what i understand...is at&t developed UNIX, opened the code in the 70's or so, it got closed and bought, what did get out evolved into BSD, Linux, ETC..., and now their opening it back up again..... why the heck did they close it in the first place? it was already out and being used, and then later adapted...was it just corporate greed in action?
seriously? I think the whole "scene" will start reverting back to being 'underground' again for fear of reprisal. I am a majorly anti-'security through obscurity', but now it seems like only a select few will be able to secure their stuff now. it's sad that ingenuity is being hampered. This sort of stuff really makes me wonder why i didn't go into landscaping or something......
i have been thinking about for quite a while now. Beauwould clusters are all nice and well, but what about joe sixpack with some it background like me who wants to get some sort of cluster going on. what methods are available (be it a simplified beouwoulf cluster or whatever...) for the guy with 3 or 4 old machines who wants to waste some electricity and try his hand at clustering some machines. is it possible to do it without being a CS major, or is it just a matter of having enough time/resources...
but if the media voluntarily (or involuntarily) f's up the news, whats to say they dont do it on a regular basis to more 'mainstream' news items, either to push a certain agenda, or to appease their friends in the gov't. Not tryint to flamebait, but it was a pretty well known fact that in the clinton WH press corp, if you asked the pres a tough or 'offtopic' question, guess what, unless you were from one of the big 6, your pass got pulled and good luck getting a interview again.... basically what it boils down to is you can never tell when the press is full of it. hell, they cant even get traffic reports right (accident at main and elm with injuries....right after i just drove by and all i saw was some homeless dude...).... sorry, im ranting now
but how can MS promote it's whole.NET/Passport philosophy if the very same services are proven to be insecure. And why hasnt MS been made accountable at all? Is it simply their huge media machine they have working for them, or are people truly that blind to the insecurities and downfalls of MS software?
..complain about if this benchmark wasnt performed? Basically he's saying the benchmark was unfair, but on the same token, he fails to mention that comparing apples to pcs is like, um, well, comparing apples to oranges.... it's about as pointless as comparing a dump truck to a minivan. both have their similiarities, but also their specialized uses. I still cant, after reading the article, tell if this guy is simply upset that somebody is making an apples to oranges comparison, or if he's just trying to start a "PCS ARE BETTER BECAUSE I SAY SO. WE ARE 3R33T!!" type holy war. If thats the case, he needs to study up on how to properly degrade a competing product. If he's trying to have any journalistic integrity, i surely cant tell...
been suspicious of these so called 'message boards' on news web sites. Seems simple enough, post a news article that doesn't push the particular publishers 'agenda', and then influence public opinion by letting the 'common people' speak out about it.
I also have to wonder about the validity of these emails and message board posts that show up on shows like CNN's 'talkback live' or 'news site'. Not trying to sound like a conspiracy nut, but we know the media massages news to their liking, how are we to know that they dont try to portray joe six-pack as being in favor or against said subject?
this is why it sends shivers up my spine when people talk about 'your one source for news' etc etc...
...start running through the streets screaming 'the end is nigh' now, or later?
Of course the site is slashdotted so i cant read it.., but why are we surprised that MS is making their OS'es more similiar to their competitor's OS? if anybody , anywhere, ever, is even the least bit 'surprised', then a little wake up call is neccessary. Similiar 'looking' products are the mainstay of the competitive marketplace.
Of course i'm just stating the obvious here, and mod me down if you wish, but i'm willing to bet this article will generate a billion anti-ms 'oh my god i cant believe they ripped off linux' posts...
where can you get a decent linux (and unfortunately windows 2000) compatible laptop? I'm actually in the market for one as we speak and am tired of fighting countless PnP battles...
"Pussy: You spend 9 months trying to get out of it, and the rest of your life trying to get back in..."
they using a standard like direct3d or glide or (insert favorite library here). Seems that we are reverting back to the days of hardware specific code rather than library specific code.... is there not anything out there that is on par with the performance of these new cards?
but i remember a couple years back (95-6'ish? ) on discovery channel they had this program on a sun box that would take samples of a persons voice and do the same thing, i guess it was just a matter of time before it became wide spread...
but one has to wonder if at&t bought this original technology, because i believe it was some college or something doing the original research..
"Pussy: You spend 9 months trying to get out of it, and the rest of your life trying to get back in..."
the poor boyscouts of america (aka BSA) dont have enough people harping on them about not letting homosexuals into their organization, now angry mobs of IT workers will be assaulting 12 yr olds and tearing down summer camps all across the country....
"Pussy: You spend 9 months trying to get out of it, and the rest of your life trying to get back in..."
..to a couple thousand people, get a couple thosand different reasons. heres mine:
I blame the rise of the corporate media monopolies. Why publish/support/produce a government backed 'celebrity' when they are pouring millions into advertising to convince us we love the backstreet boys. In the days of the apollo astraunauts, you mainly had the big 3 tv networks...now you have the big 6, but they run much more than just tv.....
"Pussy: You spend 9 months trying to get out of it, and the rest of your life trying to get back in..."
Yes, im sure the UNITED STATES Secret Service will be arresting people in the NETHERLANDS.... Meanwhile in L.A., Japanese Police are conducting raids on crackhouses, while Zimbabwe authorities are handing out traffic tickets in NYC...
dolt...
"Pussy: You spend 9 months trying to get out of it, and the rest of your life trying to get back in..."
While a seemingly awesome concept, handhelds have seem to come under pressure lately. Their sales are slipping, yet popularity is rising... What is keeping the handhelds from becoming what it was envisioned to be, a usefull device in the hand of every person that does "everything".... in short, why are handhelds f'ing up?
"Pussy: You spend 9 months trying to get out of it, and the rest of your life trying to get back in..."
Am I surprised? No. I think i'll be more surprised if the major media outlets actually take notice of this obvious case of David vs. Goliath (and goliath wins...). It appears the day I've always feared has arrived. Big corporations steamroll over anybody who dares stand in their way, just like a protester in Tianemen (sp?) square. Does anybody notice? No. Maybe a couple thousand of us who bother to read the alternative,'extreme right wing wacko' as the media puts it, news sources. But compare us to the 200+ million people in our country, and the billions in the world. Are out voices heard over the noise that is 'mainstream'? Not any more... its over folks..
"Pussy: You spend 9 months trying to get out of it, and the rest of your life trying to get back in..."
fuck it, i got karma to burn....
dude, that was the funniest fucking post i have _EVER_ seen on slashdot. I literally busted out laughing. never before have i commented on the humor involved in a post.....very rollins'esque of you....

about this article, is that it can possibly happen.....
comic online has got to be mattbcomic.com ....
an autobiographical comic that is just so wierd yes so damn funny...
