Look, if you want to get technical about it, gewgle.com was not asking for the CC number, or the expiration date, or the 3 digit security code. If someone went there and just didn't get the fact that it was a joke, they would have sent me a message that read something like 'Yes, I have a credit card and 5 minutes.'
I post a comment about gewgle whenever a story comes up relating to Google and the possibility of legal threats come up in conversation. I did not post a comment about gewgle in the last Google topic, dealing with Google Hacks, because it is not relevant.
UDRP and ACPA are not examples, but food for thought.

Google has been very forceful and a little overzealous with their trademark attacks and threats. After over two years of owning Gewgle.com they are just now sending legally threatening letters.
Is Google about to have an IPO or something? It seems like they have changed so much in the last couple months...
Google is really breaking out the lawyers lately... They are currently threatening a non-profit (no advertising, no pop-ups, not for sale) site, which clearly was not google.com or associated with google.com (gewgle.com) for trademark infringement, bad faith under UDRP, and more. We have gone back and forth a few times, check out gewgle.com's legal section or just gewgle.com

Man, Google is getting pretty agressive with their lawsuits. I own gewgle.com, which forwards search requests to google.com, but I always made it fairly clear that gewgle.com wasn't related to Google and I never made a profit on the site (no advertising, for sale, etc). Anyway, we've gone back and forth a few times, I don't think they have much of a case, but if you want to check out the proceedings, check gewgle.com's legal section or just plain ol' gewgle.com
I didn't know that, thanks! I'll be sure to check it out... However, no right thinking person would take that seriously! It was a play on "Have a credit card and 5 minutes? Try Google Adwords".
'a search of the Internet Archive shows that in May and October of 2001, the gewgle.com site contained the statement: "Have a credit card and 5 minutes? Email me"'
While this isn't user information per se, it could have easily been and Google pulled it up on a whim. For more information, check gewgle.com or gewgle.com's legal proceedings

A local hacker filled up his hard disk while untarring a copy of the Linux kernel v2.5. Being unable to read the license before untarring the package he was not able to reject the "NO WARRANTY" section of the GPL. While he has decided against joining a previous class action lawsuit, he has decided to never upgrade his Linux kernel or any other sizable free software package again.
I can't believe this! I JUST bought a GameCube, and now its going to be obsolete in just 2.5 years! Argh! Why do these development companies have to keep developing!!!
Google has recently issued a cease and desist letter to Gewgle.com. Seems like their humor has run dry as well, as they no longer understand 'humor' or the concept of 'parody'.
Uh oh, wait until RMS gets ahold of them!

I used to use auctions.yahoo.com and classifieds.yahoo.com all the time for purchases (maybe a year ago). Now it is plagued with unrated sellers selling 1 ghz Apple Titaniums. I even contacted a seller once, who claimed to be about 15 miles from my house (in his auction listing). His response was something to the tune of:
"Sorry, I can't do local pickup, I'm helping my parents move in down here in Texas. And no, I don't have access to a phone to set up a voice call to talk about it, but if you'd like the laptop, can you transfer the money into my friend's swedish bank account? Thanks"
I know in the article, the guy got screwed the other way, but some p2p e-commerce seems to be getting worse.
Its called 'being on a distribution list'. I get so much e-mail I don't care about, I had to create a rule so that any mail sent only to me is placed directly in my inbox, otherwise it gets moved to another directory...

Thats not the point. The point is that before any controversial project reaches any sort of maturity, developers discontinue their research, etc out of fear from legal attacks based on the DMCA. Just because nobody has been sued, doesn't mean no one has been intimidated.
"But in 1 1/2 years since the case started, Toren said he has heard of no other criminal cases invoking the law."... The reason he hasn't heard about it is the same reason that many projects don't exist right now.

Its not that the author _can't_ learn VB... They probably don't own it or don't want to run it in favor of 'more portable languages'...
