    How about "An increase in the consumption of Nutella has been responsible for a big decline in US greenhouse gas emissions"? Makes about as much sense.

    If you consider the low fiber content of Nutella (0.5 g per serving), that statement might actually make more sense.

    I didn't say that FORTRAN was going anywhere. I said that it's almost always listed in articles like this, and always will be. I still write and maintain code in FORTRAN too.

    With COBOL still around, it's hard to take too seriously the claim that Perl or Ruby is about to die.

    Why would you make that assumption? Have Perl or Ruby been suggested as replacements for COBOL? Is the future usefulness of a language based inversely on age? I'm not seeing the direct connection between the lifespans of COBOL, Perl, and Ruby.

    Also, how can they not mention FORTRAN in the article? No self respecting article on the topic of "soon to be dead programming languages" in the last 30 years has failed to mention FORTRAN. I see it as a staple of these articles for years to come.

    If you follow the links in TFA, you will find that they originally were trying to create a robot based on a different animal commonly used for food.

    Unfortunately, the model they chose was based on the cow and it was an udder failure.

    So they were wrong in their hypothesis that these 69 sites on the genome are related to intelligence. This does not mean that other sites on the genome aren't related to intelligence.

    On top of that, the three gene locations that did seem to have a stronger correlation weren't involved in development of the nervous system.

    So they really don't have complete knowledge of this extremely complex system. Not surprising. Time to review their assumptions, and come up with a new hypothesis to test. They still gained knowledge (what doesn't work), it's just not the knowledge they were hoping for.

    There has been a very impressive list of tech or geek related guest star appearances on the show (Stan Lee, Stephen Hawking, Neil deGrasse Tyson, ...).

    Do you have any control over who guest appearances are written for?

    Are there any tech related people who you would like to have on the show as a guest star, but have been unable to get?

    Say you had a legit bad experience there- so you wait the week or so until they return your deposit to unleash your torrent of critical reviews, or start burning through the deposit while you're still there.

    If your experience there was so bad that you can't wait a week to post the review you should probably be talking to a lawyer first anyway.

    The normal shells weren't penetrating the armour of the German ships, but the concrete filled training shells were punching right through, dealing surprisingly heavy damage.

    That's because in their training the Germans were only exposed to abstract shells.

    I had to check if my HOA had been duped too, because this is just the type of thing they would do. They're not on the list, but if anyone else is interested they should check the list themselves to see if any groups they're members of are on it.

    Many of those systems have no (or minimal) idle time. Also, this misuse caused them to consume more power, and increased the wear on the systems components. There was a real impact from this. The $150k indicates a lot of cpu time was consumed for this, but TFA doesn't indicate how much- certainly more than would have been 'spare time'.

    That's a small detail. If it can use tap water, it can also use water from the condenser coil or filtered rainwater collection. Or they could just add a small reservoir (similar to the windshield wiper fluid reservoir) which gets topped off when they change the battery.

    Or they could just fill it up with the "amazing, mileage extending super water" which would be sure to hit the shelves soon after these batteries are released.

    We'll need a follow up to see if they change the markings back in a year.

    They'll probably just find other locations to 'fix' the markings on next month, and probably warn the ticket writers not to make it so obvious.

    I'm surprised they haven't started disguising fire hydrants as newspaper boxes or trash cans, in order to increase revenue.

    You're forgetting that many people can not be immunized- babies, some elderly, people with compromised immune systems, people with other conditions. etc. These are the people who are most threatened. This threat is in addition to those mentioned in the other comments about mutations, and vaccinations not being 100% effective.
