Brakes are nice too. unless you're planning to go slow enough to brake with your foot.

His ideal car doesn't have a transmission or wheels, so unless he's on a steep enough hill that his lightweight but strong aluminum body can skid down it, he'll just be sitting in his driveway going 'vroom vroom' anyway. If his ideal house has a driveway, that is. As his ideal car also doesn't have a floor pan, he'll have no trouble using his feet to pretend to brake.

That's the reporters' interpretation. I'm guessing the original statement from the scientists was more like "The glass is two to three times stronger, so we can make it half as thick." I would be surprised if the scientists said "it's 4-6 times stronger at the same thickness" and the reporter did the math to get to 2-3 times stronger at half the thickness.

I have driven that road many times. Often (obviously not rush hour) the average speed is around 70 mph (middle lanes) with the left lanes sometimes having a flow of 80+ mph. Occasionally, traffic will reach above 90 mph. I-95 is 3-4 lanes wide in the area where I think he was driving. How dangerous 94 mph actually is depends on how fast the other cars were going at the time. It may have been just a bit faster than traffic, it may have been insanely fast. Also, I have never seen anyone drive faster on that road than the state troopers, usually without emergency lights on. 127 mph and/or wheelies on I-95 is insane any time, and should result in the officer demolishing the motorcycle right there and making the idiot walk to court. (Yes, I realize that the 127 mph wasn't known until later).

A quick calculation, comparing the volume of the highest capacity flash memory I could easily find (16 Gb microSDHC) vs the volume of the highest capacity hard drive (2 TB) shows that the microSDHC has a Gb/volume ratio 18 times higher than the hard drive. Of course you couldn't just pack a case with a few hundred microSDHC chips and have it work, but even assuming half the space could be filled with flash memory, leaving space for controller card, data/power connections, cooling, etc. you would still have 9x the storage capacity. This is ignoring some details, but it should be in the ballpark. Even accounting for other differences (i.e. density of flash vs SSD, etc), they should be able to make SSD drives with at least comparable volumes, maybe the relatively high price is the only drawback.

Probably ecological disaster of biblical proportions. The similar plans I've seen seek to lower the level of the Mediterranean, thus gaining land while retaining the hydroelectric capacity, although not as distributed- but it's not clear where your original plan would be putting the outlet water. Neither plan would be beneficial though, as such a dam would interfere with currents in the Atlantic, causing problems which would make the term 'biblical' seem like an understatement. So it was your second option above, but don't feel bad because you aren't the first to have this idea (or fairly similar), and the guy in the link above pushed for it for 25 years. And it's good to think big, even if it won't work out.

Or, wait until the siding needs to be replaced and put a shell of insulation around the outside of the house, and a wrap (i.e. Tyvek) if still necessary. Obviously this won't work if you have brick, or anything other than siding. You can insulate the walls from the inside, but there will probably still be gaps and holes everywhere. You can leave your scary 1930's wiring and plumbing in place. It would probably make sense to wait until the roof needs major repair to upgrade it, since you'll already be paying to have it removed. Or just throw some insulation up wherever you can easily for a partial solution.
