  1. The new interface must be driving them away... on Pandora Loses 7 Million Listeners (siliconvalley.com) · · Score: 1

I listen to Pandora on my PC at work, when I can. They switched to a cruddy flash interface a few months ago, which I suspect is part of why their numbers are down. The new interface locks up, doesn't pause correctly, and just sucks in general. The only reason I haven't switched is the effort I put into creating my stations, but that day is coming soon.

There are several points you are missing. Everyone may need a car that can go more than 200 miles, but they don't need every car they own to have that capability. Families with two or more cars may prefer an electric car and a hybrid or gas car. I don't drive my car 9000 miles in a year, and would be fine with one short range electric and a longer range car for my family. My situation is far from unique. Many people would accept renting a car the few times a year they needed more range. Your prices are way off too- there are several all-electric cars available with MSRP in the high $20ks, way less than $100k. Yes, more than $12k but most people don't want a $12k car, electric or gas. Your strawman who is going to Vail isn't going to want a $12k car either. If I'm comparing a ~$30k gas car vs a ~$33k hybrid or electric, the hybrid or electric is probably still a better deal when you factor in fuel costs, maintenance costs, and rebates. I drive less than 30 miles a day, why would I care about extra range that I would rarely use?

Also- 200 miles to escape a wildfire- is that a wildfire or a meteor impact?

Maybe we'll send them a warning in a few years?

It's a bit unsettling that we didn't notice this until it had passed the earth at a relatively close distance, and passed through the plane of the ecliptic twice. I know the chances of an impact are very low, but the late detection indicates that we may be missing an unknown number of events like this, and may not be correct about estimates of the chances of being hit by one.

The minimum tax rate for low income goes from 10% to 12% (in the last version I saw), so don't think there's anything good for the poor there. The maximum tax rate for high income was lowered from 39.6% to 35%, which seems like a handout to the rich. But the standard deduction is doubled, which seems like it will help poor people preferentially. But it also eliminates the personal exemption, which will reduce the total deduction for families with multiple children. Also the values the brackets are at aren't specified, and there may be other deductions etc. so it's impossible to tell exactly how the tax plan will affect anybody. My bet is that the rich will pay a lot less, and the middle class/poor will pay less but only coincidentally. The government will not collect enough $$ to function properly, leading to increased debt as most members of Congress would rather sacrifice their first born than cut spending. The next administration will have to increase taxes to make up for these actions, and will be cursed to eternity for it.

So the answer to your question is probably neither.

Part of the problem is the viewpoint that those are the only two options. It's your (or their) trash, dispose of it properly. Why is there an expectation that ashtrays should be provided at any random spot that someone might finish smoking? Like any other trash, hold onto it until there is a proper place to dispose of it. I usually had to study for earlier classes, and learned in time that effort and persistence are required no matter how smart you are. When I got to the harder classes I persisted, and was able to finish college. My kids are in advanced classes, so I tell them that they're smart- but all that means is you have to work hard in the advanced class instead of a regular level class. No coasting allowed. I make it clear to them that intelligence is not enough, work is still required. I think one difference is I don't praise them for being smart, I just state it as how they are.
