You're comparing apples to oranges: An mpeg-encoding Tivo (I have two) to the Explorer 8000 (which I rent). Wrong kind of Tivo.
The Tivo equivalent to the SA8000 is the Directv Tivo which *also* has two tuners, and also recieves already-encoded digital signals, just like the SA box does. Nex
The word 'apparently' should be a giveaway, don't you think? Could be that whoever wrote that word has an agenda. And it looks like the majority of typically moronic slashdotters are buying into it without the need for any kind of confirmation. Nex
The Atari 520 ST also had GEM, back in 85. Not multitasking, but not a bad OS either. But then in late '85 the Amiga 1000 came out and the world of home computing changed forever. I had both machines and loved 'em.
Before that, the Atari 800/400 series really should have been mentioned. The C64 was mostly an imitation that arrived many years later. The 800 came out in 79/80, had graphic and sound chips, player missiles and lots more. One of my 800's ran a bbs for years, 24/7. Because it could.
The Sinclair ZX-81 (Timex) had so many key combinations that its little membrane keyboard got to be a bit of a pain to use sometimes. But that flight simulator in black and white with no sound had me transfixed, perhaps more so than on later machines, because the imagination needed to be so fully engaged. Nex
I can see how that would be an advantage. I've got a large 'dressed' tv too, but this 21" monitor's like two feet away from my face, and I use Sennheiser headphones for sound. Acceptable. Nex
I got a large (21") tube monitor - they've plummeted in price. So whether it's an avi divx or xvid or whatever, no pain anymore; mpgs are no longer my preference. Nex
Both the Nex II and the Archos Recorder 20 have non-proprietary file formats. You just move files on and off the devices using your favorite filemanager (let's hear it for servant salamander). Nex
Once you go Ipod, you become an insufferable snob. Once you go Archos Recorder 20, you go Rockbox Once you go Nex II, you go running, and add mem cheaply. Nex (no relation)
Somebody else mentioned the practically non-existant all-important numbers in the review. Now you point out the lengthy opinion verbiage. What's left? Not much. Worse reviews are hard to find. Nex
Correct. Because the entire world is continually reading US-based text. Stop going to US sites, stop allowing your local media to concentrate on North American affairs and you'll be fine, but first of all, Stop Sniveling. Nex
That's hardly the same as California being 'without power for an entire summer'.
Besides, California's a big place. I lived in San Diego and my neighborhood didn't experience even *one* power outage or brown-out that entire summer. Not ONE. What, we're not part of California anymore? Nex
You know that's untrue and I know it's untrue, but now lots of those little (the stupid ones I mean) Euros will be telling everyone that California was without power for a whole summer.
Bad example. HDTV isn't a word, and nor is TVHD. They're acromnyms. They exist as amalgams of logically descriptive words. 'High Definition TV' being a logical collection of descriptors, as is 'TeleVision Haute Definition.' TVHD and HDTV
To validate your argument try another example. I'm sure there are some.
Both the English and French languages can inhale foreign words and terms more or less with ease.
Apart from some grammatical differences (nouns to verbs - although even that can be quite easily overcome in French) the big difference between the two languages is the French Government (or the 'Academie') and the 'Office de la langue francaise,' in Quebec, which both do good work by sorting out confusion, but often go way over the top into a strange sort of navel-gazing, quasi-masturbatory lala land. Enough pontification already. Go bore your neighbors in the trailor park. Nex

How do you know why people buy SUVs anyway? You say 'status symbol' but you're just guessing, choosing a reason that makes buyers of SUVs look bad.
Not a good try at convincing anyone, because a good try would have used neutral language with Facts. Nex
