Well, what about all of us smart enough not to use IM of any kind? Where do we fall on the "ladder"? Really... IM is only *really* ubiquitous among kids and the really sad, pathetic, lonely adults. Sorry to say, but this isn't much of a pissing contest when it's between 12 year old girls, and 42 year old single women that weigh 300 lbs and have 10 cats and participate in medieval fairs/sci fi conventions.

Am I wrong? Are there very many "normal-ish" people who use IM? I don't know a single person that uses IM of any kind.

I'm not so sure that Google recruting this guy, even if they knew he had a non-compete, would make them liable. But then, who really knows, since we're all playing armchair attorneys, anyway!

As someone who is in the process of switching FROM Vonage, BACK to one of the Bells, I can say that VOIP still has a way to go. I certainly wouldn't depend on it for a business yet. I agree that they're improving, but right now... ugh! Poor quality calls. Switching to/from is a royal PITA. Price isn't much better. Reliability depends on broadband (which is still not good enough for a small business to rely on). Half-assed features (for example, with Vonage, if you have all of your calls forwarded, it doesn't actually forward calls while the destination phone is busy. It catches them in it's own voicemail, instead of doing what I'd like it to do, and forward the calls).

Like Linux, I'll probably try again in another few years. Like Linux, it has lots of potential. Like Linux, it's improving rapidly. Like Linux, it still has a long way to go to be as good as the product it's supposedly trying to replace.

We've had our company's web site up for 3 years, with Google spidering it completely every day and it has a Google Page Rank of "5". Yahoo only just in the past week added our front page. Of course, that's tiny anecdotal evidence, but to me, that says a lot about the quality of Yahoo's search.

Not true. Movie makers have known for years that they'll sell more tickets to a PG-13 movie than an R movie. And they'll sell a hell of a lot more tickets to an R movie than an X movie (or your state's equivalent). I call "economic justice" people owning what they earned. That's the very definition of modern society: property ownership.
