The better the cas timing the better the ram... Also more sticks in the banks cases more latency... if you can do one stick 512 vs 2 256 it will give less sytem latency... I wonder what dual channel ram does to system latency... if there is more because 2 sticks have to be addressed...hmmm?
Red Hat does not use YAST, which SuSE has or will be open sourcing... I find it a bit easier from a GUI perspective to setup for server purposes... but then again of you're using Linux as a server, you're more than likely going to know and use the commandline. This is where linux distros are more centered... and the desktop is where it's not. there is not common desktop for Linux... which is what makes it look fragmented.
It's not that they will not... it's that the hardware is not certified or it's a customer configuration.... like this for example: http://www4.discreet.com/smoke/smoke.php ?id=174
It's a whole package that's being soled... sure you could more than likely run it on any linux base but that's how they sell it... and you don't find many like these that aren't RH....
Red Hat is the defacto standard for Linux machines in the "workstation" class... if you've got a highend app that runs on linux.. (Maya...etc) Red Hat has the certification.... Second would still be SuSE.
There is already a solution for macular degeneration where a small digital camera is placed in the center of the retina and a feed from it is attached to the nerve... and it works.
This in my opinion is another case of technology being present... but humanity not ready for it... both the people needing it and the poeple making it.
...since I suffer from macular degeneration... As many of you know there is no way to transplant the retina of the eye... but it sounds as if they have successfully transplanted a whole... eye... here?
(Sorry I did not get to read the whole thing bc I wanted to get this post in quickly... back to reading)
Speed to me equals usablilty on a end user level. If you don't think an enduser would take XP over, say OS X 10.0 with all the apps available today I'd say you're wrong. It's annoying.
True to say that there is a psychology behind it yes... but that's because people like thinks "snappy"... and we're not just talking computers. This is the advantage XP has over OS X.
I feel it's right to say that OS X maybe more stable now than XP (My os x system *is* more stable) But you've got to think about thet fact that Apple has more control over the hardware.
It's true to say that OS X has gottten a lot faster since it first came out... But it's still not as snappy as XP. I own Macs and PCs and you notice the difference the second you jump off your mac after working on it for a while and get on your XP box...
The Mac is now workable for any type of task... it's *that* fast... but it's still not where XP is.
I would be just a few years off with my car damnit... Looks like I'll be upgrading to an Alpine system then. They're my fav anyway when it comes to kick ass sound systems.
Technology changes too quickly and there is too much technology for me to get cerified and actually think it amounts to anything.
As far as I'm concerned the only thing a certification will get you is a job. It looks good to bosses on your resume. But if you're boss was smart enough, they'd know what to look for... which in my opinion would render most certifications meaningless.
The problem I see that differs from FTP and this technology is that by itself, FTP has no illegal components. This software, however has the ability to break encryption... which is illegal. It's the difference between an M-16 and a toaster oven. Sure you can pick your toaster up and beat somebody to death with it... but an M-16's sole purpose is to kill somebody.
If the software did nothing but a bit for bit copy and did not break any encryption there would be no grounds for a lawsuit.
But once again it comes back in to the hands of the company and the user and what the software was intended for. Kind of like a shotgun vs an M-16 this time... sure you can kill a *person* with a shotgun, but that's not the sole reason for a shotgun (123 software).... but the M-16 it is. (An M-16 being a straight up hack tool)
I'm wondering what HT and/or SMP rigs will perform with the new smp aware doom3 engine....
It's SGI... how the FUCK could it not?
That would be a damn fun store to shop at... just grab something and run out the door... if caught just tell them it's Linux!
Don't post shit like this if you don't have anything to prove it with. If you're going to say something like that, you need to have an example.

OS X did not start off double-buffered, alpha-channeled...etc, when it 1st came about... and it was slow then.
True to say that there is a psychology behind it yes... but that's because people like thinks "snappy"... and we're not just talking computers. This is the advantage XP has over OS X.

Mad overclocking for mas q3 framerates!!
Ah... and here I was about to go make pancakes. Thanks for the insight!
Ok... wtf is a 4k stack?

So what's changed?
I mean, if he can't escape death who can?
Can anybody confirm if the linux and unix ports are smp aware?
I bet it does not install on os x or linux...
Well... that be a start now wouldn't it?
