It probably is just a testament to the stability of their OpenServer and Unixware products. I mean, if they dont use their own products, why the hell should anyone else pay to use them ?
A Counter-Strike gaming server with 10 people AND 5 people on Ventrilo ( VoiP ) takes about 400-460kbit/s . I dont know about BF1942 but Q3 and UT Servers use up less bandwidth than HLDS on a per player basis.
Unless the original poster was referring to running a gameserver, I dont see how his bandwidth usage can be that high for just gaming.

FreeBSD 5.2 Review

I dont like VLC much either. I was using either totem or mplayer.
My experience with 5.2 was everything feeling fast and smooth, till i extracted a large archive. The UI would lock up for a second or three and if i was playing any audio it would stutter. Granted my machine isnt the beefiest ( dual P3 550, 1Gb Ram , U160 drives, GF2 Pro video card ) but never had that problem with Linux or FreeBSD 4.9 . KDE however ran very fast and smooth on FreeBSD 5.2 at least from a usage perspective.
Anyways, I am not much for religious battles between FreeBSD and Linux. Thanks to these projects I have a variety of OSs I can run:)
SCO calls the current licensing prices an 'introductory offer'. They can make it whatever they choose if they win the case , however unlikely that may be.
Personally I think that upper management at SCOG and Canopy should go to when SCOG's claims are found to be of no merit in court.
Would the court systems of the rest of the world telling SCO to go shove its senseless licensing schemes up its ass be considered a precedent for any such cases in the US ?
Actually he is right. If i sell some packaged versions of GPL software A then I am only obligated to provide source to the person/people who purchased that set from me. I do not need to make it available on my websitenor do I need to package the source with the boxed copy. The GPL states that if the people who bought my boxed version requests me for the source I have to provide it. I can deny people who havent bought the binary distribution sice I havent distributed anything to them.
Now if the person who bought my binary boxed set wishes to make copies of the source and redistribute it to anyone who asks then he is allowed to do so under the GPL.
I know a few people from Trelos ( before they merged with Netraverse ) and they all agree on one thing. SCO is full of shit and their code is about as organized as a plate of spaghetti
Actually on most #freebsd channels and most FreeBSD advocates do state "Linux sucks/ Linux is unstable" etc.
Now as for this statement :
With Linux, I find myself checking google a lot more often to make sure I'm not wasting time configuring some subsystem already slated for obsolescence.
Can u give me an example where you searched on google for a subsystem on a fairly recent distro to see if it was slated for obsolescence ?
Personally I consider myself lucky that there is LInux and there is FreeBSD. It gives me a choice. FreeBSD and Linux compliment each other, not the other way around.
I agree with you. I have been using Linux for 9 years and I think that the community attitude has become WORSE as the years progressed.
It wouldnt hurt people to be polite and if they dont know the answer, saying "I dont know but i can try to help you find an answer" is perfectly acceptable.
Many times when I dont know a solution to a problem which someone asked me then I try to find an answer and in the process i learn something new as well.
I got the same response from #debian as well. I had a problem with LILO. Booting from a floppy and recompiling LILO worked for me but the packaged LILO decided my drive had 0 sectors. I asked if anyone else had experienced such a problem and I was cussed out of #debian.
Oh well I dont really give a shit about people in #debian anyways just this attitude will definitely put off people who were otherwise interested in Debian.
uhmm If your OS supports PPPoE you dont have to install squat. The only thing you get on the Install CD is the PPPoE client if your OS doesnt support it.
Other CDs have the branded browser and some utils, but no spyware.
Before they charge licensing fees for Linux doesnt it have to be proven that code within Linux DOES in fact contain their copyrighted code ?
How can they do this if its not yet been proven in court that IBM violated their contracts with SCO and also to be proven is that some code within Linux does in fact infringe on their IP ?
Whose word are we supposed to take ? Laura Didio's ? Darl McBride's ?
If its not proven that Linux contains any SCO code or if a court decision proves otherwise then by charging Licensing fees for Linux now, isnt SCO violating the GPL?
There are SCO employees ? After reading what has been going on with SCO I was under the assumption that all non-management employees were fired to save money to pay for the lawyers. Like any software development actually goes on @ Sco these days.. sheesh..

Storm Linux which died out was based on Debian and was easy to install as well.

The word Maya means Illusion. My aunt's name is Maya too.
Many people who are prosititues, have fallen into that to survive as well.
Not to mention that prostitutes dont disturb you during dinner time by knocking on your door with sex for sale.
And warez sites would rejoice ?
GPL's should read GPL'd
This is what puzzles me about SCO's claims. According to their logic, they are illegally distributing the combined work of hundreds of developers.
If they say GPL isnt a valid license then they can get sued by the authors of ALL GPL software packages distributed by SCO.
Hmm wonder what GPL's packages are distributed by SCO in OpenUnix and UnixWare ?

I havent had a library issue in a long time. Can you suggest a distro where i can find this really interesting feature ?
Maybe i should install red Hat 9, download rpms for Suse 6 and then complain about library issues
