This is not to say Mac OS X sucks, far from it. But it isnt the utopia you make it out to be.

If Microsoft didnt have such licensing agreements with their OEMs where the OEM couldnt bundle another OS without facing repercussions then its all fine. If a company decides to sell coke and pepsi said that if the company sold a coke vending machine their rental rates for the pepsi machine would be higher then thats illegal and bad . ( The company was shutting down and it was cheaper to get a once a week consultant than pay me a full salary for the next 4 weeks )

They wanted me to change their domain name information to their new sub company which they had purchased and wanted the speedy service from Verisign which costs $29 per domain. They asked me to expense this as well. Now This is the last week Im working there and I refused to expense it since (a) I hadnt been re-imbursed yet and (b) The new guy they hired should be the one who does it.

But they kept calling me over and over again to have me migrate their domains to the new sub company even after they laid me off. Now this is the irony. I am not the Administrative contact on the domain, so the other 2 people on the list could have done it as well. But for some reason they chose to pester me to do upto 5 weeks after they laid me off.

2 weeks ago one of my old bosses contacted me on ICQ and asked me to do some web work for their new company. So far I havent said yes or no .. I just dont want to be stuck in a situation where I do work and dont get the money

Also you have to realise that many server admins dont know or dont follow the hlds server mailing lists so they may be unaware of necessary updates for the different mods they run on the server.

As for cheating, any form of cheating takes away all the fun in the game. 90% of the people who cheat, dont cheat to get a good score, they cheat to piss off the players who are on the server. HLG and CSG arent *that* accurate , the best anti cheat for CS was Cheating Death and even if the person had cheats it didnt really matter since C-D would disable most of them. Users should at least know where to access this. Also ever since the creation of the mouse single click and double click have remained the same (and I dont see the process for either single or double click changing i.e double will mean 2 and single will mean 1 ).

Is it really too much to ask that a user at least makes the attempt to learn a bit about the computer he/she just spent $1000 for? When I was a help desk tech I remember asking people to single click and hearing them click at least 10 times instead.

As far as applications are concerned yes they all differ but I still say that the user should at least know the basics of operating a piece of equipment ( which is basically what a computer is )

If you are going to drive, you learn how to drive. If you are cooking you consult a cookbook and cook. Its not like you dont put effort into learning the task at hand.

What bugs me the most is that people believe the computer should just work on whatever task they want it to. Do you get in your car and it should immediately read your mind and take you where you want to go? Or do you put all your groceries on top of the stove and hope for a gourmet meal?

My mother went to a 2 week computer course when she bought a computer and she can do all basic tasks required. She knows where the Start Button is, how to get to the control panel and can distinguish between left, right and double click.

Thats really all we techs want from the users. When we try to help them they should know the basic functionality of the computer so we can help them with their problems
