Oh, and what to call mobile phones? How about mobiles like the rest of the planet? That wasnt so hard, was it?
Like in Belgium where we call it a GSM, both in French and Dutch ?
or like in Switzerland where they call it a Natel ?
or like in Germany where they call it a handy ?
Ho you meant France where they call it un portable ?
it seems to me that if the 300-500 billion thus far spent on the Iraq war had gone into fusion research, we could have 10-20 different experimental approaches
the Iraq war was not about oil, it was because of the WMDs
Then comes the Causality Scheduler. Basically, all messages received are swapping reality from the normal future to an alternate future. At time of reception t0, put the message in the causality scheduler, that will have the message sent to t0 whenever the system is idle.
I don't think it's possible though, otherwise we would probably be getting messages from the future, wouldn't we?
Not necessarily. We could open a IPoST (IP over spacetime) daemon on jan 1 2009, and be able to receive messages from the future from that date on. This is not breaking the principle of causality as such, eventhough the consequences of the message payload might have consequences on the future sending of that message. This can however easily be circumvented by taking a log of the messages and have messages that are unmotivated sent anyway. I can imagine P.K.Dick write dozens of novellas on the premice.

Why do idiots keep using numbers as domain names ? It's annoying and demands lots of attention to type over. Words (service.sld.tld ) are way easier to remember !
If the Walkman had been released in 2006, it would have used an exotic, overpriced format of cassettes only used by Sony, and would only have been ready in 2008 at a cost of $800.
Immigration doesn't affect world population, you know.
In some way it does: an emigrant is a responsible person that leaves a country that has already hit its overpopulation threshold (starvation, unemployment,...) to a country which has not reached it yet (food abundance, vacancies in cheap labour). By leaving his country, an emigrant allows the less responsible people in that country to breed another kid.
He's right ! You all know the internets is a Series of Tubes. If you have a working Series of Tubes from Beijing to, say, Microsoft, and there is a working Series of Tubes between Microsoft and the BBC, there is a working Series of Tubes between Beijing and the BBC.
Face it: Linux is the new Hurd. Nothing has happened to it in years. How different is the latest "Stinky Skunk" Ubuntu different from a year 2000 Mandrake ?
If suddenly people's needs were one 10th as high, there would be abundance of resource, and people would breed like rabbits to abuse the resource, and you'd actually even lose the economies of scales made by fairly big individuals.

has anyone seen a beige laptop in the last 20 years ?
Politics is about trade offs. Splitting the decisions to atomic entities would make any master plan impossible (see also Tragedy of the Commons).
First I'm not American, I'm Belgian.
/. have occupations blue collar workers would not call work.
Second most people on
Third, if it's so easy to tell others what to do, what don't you do this ?

1999 called, it wants its priceless jokes back...

In other news, the Von Neumann design was discovered to be pretty much Turing complete, but not the best tool for every job. Film at 11.

They're the FTC (Trade), they are the ones that should protect the citizens from monopolies like the ??AA

The builds may be the same, you still have to rebuild to remove the "RC" labels from the Release Graduate

Going to the moon is not a policy, it's a programme. ----- Does this make the 1967 Outer Space treaty obsolete ?
