If you transcribe a song for yourself or your band mates to jam on, then that is fair use, if you publish the tabulature on the Web, you are publishing the sheet music and, like it or not, your are infringing on someone else's rights.
Isn't this clean room reverse engineering, which is legal ?

When someone is certain of his right, he demands a trial himself rather than leave the shadow of a doubt float. Two possibilities :

    • The gaming industry loses the trial, and in that case, the US will once more look as ridiculous as they are, and also the gaming industry will migrate to Europe, and our econony will rule once more, and yours will suck once again.
    • They win, which is what should happen. I have been killing my brother for five years now in Doom, Heretic, Duke3D, Quake 1 & 3, and this is probably the reason I didn't have to do it in real life.

  4. Another symbolic number on The Quickly Descending Unix Timestamp · · Score: 1

If you go check the html code on slashdot pages, you will see they load a "picture" named "pc.gif" (pagecount ?) with as parameter a number, being now approximately 987 000 000. Last time I checked a couple of months ago, it was 980 000 000. IIRC the /. FAQ said they served 1e6 pages a month. This is the same order of magnitude so pc.gif might really be the page count.

This means in some months now, slashdot will have served 1 billion pages. Hats off, cmdrTaco and cowboyNeal. Maybe we could start another contest to see when it happens.

MS office 4.3 and 95 didn't add any new features. They were basically new compiles of the same s***. No one would have bought office 97 if it hadn't been for that stupid new feature. No one will ever buy XP except if they have a feature added, and THIS is a real cool one.

I might install office 95 instead (no paperclip). No, wait, I will write my thesis with lyx under Mandrake 8.0 RC1. What a wonderful distro.
