The FBI has been a corrupt investigative agency since the 1960s
Really, the 1960s? How about since the 1940s, when the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover was running around investigating people for being homosexuals or communists, and blatantly violating due process? It has been said that, had this been known at the time, we would have called it "Hooverism" rather than "McCarthyism."
Hoover just wanted the list of homosexuals so he could find out who'd pull up his pretty little dress and boink his fat ass. The list was really more like a menu.
"These satellites, which we will use for asteroid deflection only, not for covert assassinations or as a dreadful weapon of war, will be a vital part in ensuring the future of human civilization" said a Pentagon spokesperson. "We look forward for a chance to put these satellites, which will not be a part of any secret missile shield program nor used to destroy terrorist hideouts, into orbit to protect our planet."
Meanwhile, at the UN "We other, lesser governments, know that the US is only interested in protecting ALL of us (the little people) from comets and such and not just interested in militarizing space because they just couldn't....they wouldn't." "They'd never blow anybody up with these" added Iraq.
The planet Mitt Romney thinks Jesus flew to after having been dead for three days to meet up with himself!! (God)!! It was prophesied by stoned Mormon sages WAY back in the 19th century, but none of us truly believed it was possible!! But it is er... was!!! And God (all three of them) is there and Mary and all the Elves and I'm flying there tomorrow....on JetBlue!
What type of society do you want to live in? One where the powerful break the law and cow politicians by endlessly propagandising the public?
I, for one, do not want to live in a society that jails people for what other people consider propaganda. That's a tyrannical dictatorship in the making.
Every time you propose a splendid new power for the government, you need to ask yourself if you would want the opposing political party to wield the same power.
Your tone assume "the government" can never be "the people". While the government does not represent the people at the moment, all the people have to do is take it back. Assuming that eventually happens, I have no problem giving the people *sweeping* power to smack these corporate schmucks down; up to and including ending the modern corporation as we know it. It's high time for a complete rethink.
No, it's not. In less than a year the public will completely forget about this, and Murdoch will still control the media. If the public cared about someone powerful being evil, Fox News would not still exist. They expect it.
The truth is, a large segment of the public does care...a lot and they know there is sqat they can do about it. Pretty much like election theater that's going on now, along with security theater at the airport. Welcome to democracy theater. The audience knows, the actors know the audience knows and they both know there is nothing the audience can do about it, so the show must go on.
I think you meant something like this (from Wikipedia):
Clarke is currently Chairman of Good Harbor Consulting, a strategic planning and corporate risk management firm;
Nothing like spreading FUD when your dayjob is selling "risk management".
Maybe, but Clarke was couter terrorism for every administration in modern history before terrorism was cool. Could be that he works for Global Harbor because of that experience and not because of fear mongering. He was a pretty level headed guy working for Reagan, Clinton and both Bushes. Of course, the last Bush demoted him and didn't listen to anything he said....we all know nothing bad came of that...
Scientists have been able to cure any and all kind of cancer *in mice* since the two statin combo (that was going to cure all cancer) in the late 90s. So tired of these worthless cancer (and whatever else disease) research stories that never go anywhere. There's DRACO for all viruses....yup, cures them all IF you're a mouse. If you're a lab rat, they can help you. You'll see that nothing will come of this and it'll be forgotten in a few months. If the stuff actually worked, they'd supress it or claim the manufacture isn't feasable. Seriously, as long as there's more money in chronic illness and as long as we've got a for profit health care industry, forget any cures...duh.
The story you wont read about is why it's all of a sudden ok to be gay...and become mainstream. It certainly wasn't ok before...even in the 'liberal media' (yeah, right). The reason it's almost ok to be gay now is that the American PR machine smelled a buck. Where there's disposable income and self esteem issues, you've got a recipe for $$$$$, so suddenly 'gay rights' and 'gay marriage' became the *right* story. The media is owned by advertisers and advertisers can sell garbage to gay men faster than they can sell fat women diet pills (also very profitable and for *exactly* the same reasons). Make them feel lousy about being something, then make then feel better for wearing something. Same reason blacks like bling and gaudy cars...they feel lousy for being shat upon, so they make up for it with whatever.... If you're fat, you like things that are LOW in something (low fat, low sodium, low cal)...makes you feel better about being a fat pig...like you're doing something about it. It's about the same for gay men and luxurious vacations and Prada. Makes them feel better after someone yells "FAG" at them walking down the street...they think "yeah but I can afford a $400 pair of sneakers". If gay men weren't profitable, gay rights and gay marriage would be the *wrong* stories and all about disease carrying sex club activities....that would be the story you read about (like yesteryear). So while you're wondering if gay men make more than you do, just stop and look at the evidence. They most certainly, as a demographic, have much more disposable income and time than you and your wife, otherwise corporations wouldn't like them and you'd be reading awful stories about gays instead of happy gay stories. Gay men would be like indians or something...and probably living on ''reservations". Beore you think I'm "gay bashing" keep in mind that I'm gay and happily wearing bargain shoes because I know how crap works.
Idiot, in just 1983, 50 corporations controlled most of the media. Now it's 6. If you can't figure out what the difference is, you've got another problem to figure out.
If an employer demands this kind of access, we should all show up at their HQ with pitchforks and lighted torches, boycots and strikes. This wouldn't have been tolerated for a second 80 years ago. If, back then, an employer wanted to read your personal diary, you'd laugh in their face and the (back then free, non-corporate) press would have had a field day, if you were even unlucky enough to be what would have been (rightly) considered a 'wage-slave'. But this was before popular organization was crushed by corporations by relentless and massive anti-union, anti-organization propaganda campaingns in all forms of (corporate owned) media.
Yeah, let facebook of all people handle it for us. We all know they're a champion of personal freedom and privacy. Nothing to do with the NSA whatsoever.
Sorry, but I prefer working for males. I've worked for four different females now and have found them to be (overall) more irrational, moody, prone to favoritism, political and literally gossip mongering. Sorry if it's politically incorrect and sexist, but that really has been my personal experience. At first, I welcomed the idea of a female boss, thinking just what this story asserts...that she'd be more democratic and egalitarian, but that's just not been my experience. However, being a scientific person at heart, I'll go with the study over my own acecdotal experience and say...'uh sure...they make great bosses'. *wince*
It's good. Negative ions are supposedly healthy and positive ions are, for the most part, bad and caused by human activity (you might want to Google that). I don't understand why this story is even news, because I could swear I read as a kid, all these places to find negative ions...waterfalls, forests, the water-pump style air conditioner on the roof of our house back then...Rain..lol, Even when I'd water the pines in our yard and spray the water up into the needles, it felt amazing to be around it as the wind would blow through. I sort of agree with one of the early posters to this story...this is news like the sky is blue. Trees are wonderful though. There were hardly any in the area of Utah I grew up in, so living in Seattle has been a refreshing, negative change.:)
Probably the best idea I've heard in a long time. Instead of corporations just knowing about externalities and having to think about them from the perspective of PR, let them have to consider them from a legal exposure perspective. A lot of publicly almost unknown corporations don't care a whole lot about PR, so they're really running amok. Definitely on the right track because something has to be changed about how business operates.
So they truly can't vote unless born in France? It would seem to me they have to indoctrinate harder and more pointedly. Maybe France is too permissive. Yeah, sounds complicated. I could totally picture EU becoming a Fascist Muslim mega state with the US becoming a Fascist Christian mega state, controlling most of the middle east. Maybe that's what's going on. I'm sure there's a state department report to be read that knows exactly what's going on. I'll start digging.
EU should just ban immigrant voting. Let only the second or third gen vote after they've been properly 'educated' (indoctrinated) and ban any and all home schooling. That's a little fascist, but not as bad as starting up a police state. It should be noted that the root cause of mass immigrant migration could have something to do with the US blowing their countries all to hell....also, the hypocrisy of so called Christians, who are all for blowing them all to hell, isn't likely a beacon of shining virtue in the muslim world. They do read newspapers, you realize. Muslims probably associate Western society, Christians... all of it with the death of somebody (friend, immediate family, perhaps gay lover lol) they love. But seriously, try to look at it from their perspective. It's not helpful only looking at all this through Bush Jr's eyes. They don't hate France or America for their freedoms, they probably hate them for damn good reason. We'd hate them if they were here blowing our asses to hell. Sorry, but it's true.
Why doesn't France just change the law so that only born french can vote, then simply indoctrinate the muslim youth with public 'education' and make illegal home schooling. That would pretty much take care of the problems they're having with non-native invasive species.:)
Not at all and didn't mean to imply it. Was implying that socialism is what's being used to keep this bastardized form of 'capitalism' alive. I thought you were implying that innovation is impossible without 'capitalism'...and that just isn't so.
Eh, not at all. I'm snarky as all get out sometimes. In fact, I am beginning to hold the same distrust for companies that produce certified organic and 'natural' products. As mass production and shareholders get involved, watch out.
Your oddly angry and needlessly insulting response aside, what I was referring to were sources for willow bark metabolism vs aspirin. After a 20 second Google search, I find you're wrong about willow bark's metabolism and you're wrong about their having the exact same active constituents.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21226125 Sounds like willow bark has anti inflammatory mechanisms outside the small amount of salicylic acid it contains. Anti inflammatory=Good. Maybe even more benefits than aspirin and almost definitely the same, especially if thinking of daily low dose aspirin for prevention.
There are standardized versions of willow bark now, so I don't think the dosage always has to be so variable.
Personally, I'd prefer to take a natural version of pretty much anything. Must stem from my (highly justified) distrust of the pharmaceutical industry.
Holds up fine because the side I look at it from has consistency and 'health and safety' has zero consistency. The side you're looking at it from (government caring about health and safety) is so incosistent as to be laughable. I could site example after example where the government happens to side with health and safety *when it lines up with business interest*, but I could also site example after example of the government siding with business when it actually harms 'health and safety'. So, the logical conclusion is that health and safety are never the prime interest, business interest is the prime motivation and if it happens to grant 'health and safety' that's nice, but if it doesn't, too fucking bad. Business rules, just like it always has.
That's interesting. Thanks for the information.
Added! Thanks.
How are they hostile to you? I like your posts.
Just to see if Ghostery, Better Privacy and wise cookie management are doing the trick.
