"Another application for slow and stopped light could be quantum computers, in which the usual definite 1's and 0's are replaced with quantum superpositions of 1's and 0's called qubits. Such computers, if they can be built, would be able to solve certain problems that would take an ordinary computer an enormously long time. Two broad categories of qubits exist: those that stay in one place and interact with one another readily (such as quantum states of atoms) and those that travel rapidly from place to place (photons) but are difficult to make interact in the ways needed in a quantum computer. The slow-light system, by transforming flying photons into stationary dark state patterns and back, provides a robust way to convert between these types of qubits, a process that could be essential for building large-scale quantum computers. We can imagine imprinting two pulses in the same atom cloud, allowing the atoms to interact, and then reading out the result by generating new output light pulses."
The article in Scientific American super cooled gases refers to super cooled gases, not crystals. Like the article says, doing this in a room tempature solid makes it much more feasible for use in solid state computing.
The Sound Blaster Live! Platinum 5.1 has a non-kludgy remote with RCA or digital jacks for sounds. I've found this to be a decent solution since I can control MP3 and DVD playback with the remote. Contrary to other posts, I've had very good 800x600 picture quality from my GeForce TV-out. However, I do end up watching DVD's on my monitor since the picture quality is so much better than the TV.
Well.. NBC purchased the rights from Robert Jordan for a miniseries of book one, The Eye of the World. Luckily, it doesn't look like anything will come of it. This book was soo long and boring! I greatly preferred the Book-A-Minute version.
It was NOT supposed to be the last book. He died before he was finished. Brian (his son) and Kevin Anderson have done a number of prequels, and are doing the sequel to Chapterhouse (book 7), after which they're going way back to cover the Butlerian Jihad series (3 books), which will be completed in about 2004. Their writing doesn't match Frank Herbert's, in my opinion, but it's always great to have more Dune books.
A) I think that for the sake of later plot development Teg and Sheena had to become involved with each other. Also, it was important that Teg's memories were recovered independant of Bene Geseret influence for his later independant decision making. Also, maybe this showed how the current Bene Geserit ways of imprinting were failing and had to change in the end.
B) I agree - except that Murbella probably couldn't have gotten to the spider queen without assistance.
C) I think that the 'farmers' that your thinking about were the face dancer couple that were prescient and trying to get control of the known universe using that knowledge and the the null capsule filled with all the Tleilaxu gholas.
D) When Duncan guided he, Sheeana, & Scytale to the uncharted universe they escaped them. This actually is a cool finish because it shows that independant decision is the best thing humans have, and this seems to me to be a decent resolution to the series.
The other technology discussed here is photovoltaic (solar-electric) conversion of water to hydrogen for combustion.
The plan is not to simply split water. They are planning to use photovoltaic cells, water, air and catalysts to produce the ammonia and nitrous oxide fuel, which they claim to be a clean and safe alternative. The only drawback is that they are still searching for appropriate catalysts.
I've been using the LogiTech iFeel Mouse in Unreal Tournament and Black & White with good success. In my opinion it does add realism to UT and does seem to make it easier to determine quickly what's happening. In B&W it's mostly helpful in determining when you've actually done something, since it can be hard to tell sometimes. Source code is included on these pages.
Remember that eEye is a business too. What if eEye releases information hoping to encourage development of new exploits? It certainly would get their name in the news and generate FUD to drive more people to buy their products.</conspiracytheory>
A Faraday Cage will shield anybody inside the cage from a lightning strike. However, I don't the cage will do anything to prevent the RF signal sniffing.
Also, you may want to look at ActiveReports from http://www.datadynamics.com which has design and display interfaces which are very similar to those in Access. It will create either an interactive report or a PDF.
A trick I've used with 4.0 browsers and above is to break the information into one table per page and adding height="100%" to each table tag. The method may not be HTML 4.01 compliant, but I've found it to be fairly reliable.
The site www.firstgov.gov provides a central location for finding information from almost all U.S. local, state or federal sites. I have found it to be a well organized and useful site and I have generally been able to find answers, forms or sites that I seek with minimal effort.
how can this possibly relate to quantum computing?

When moderating aren't we supposed to browse at -1 to spot abuse? Unfortunately, this is now almost impossible due to the klerck page widening posts.
