Sports are not only good for physical exercise, they are also good for social interation. It teaches you team work and the self-disipline needed to show up for practice and to try. Even if you are not physically gifted you can find a sport to play, I have friends that fit this catagory and they still play soccer and martial arts. This isn't to say sport has downsides, what doesn't, but it has a far greater usefulness that just for the physical side of life. And if we want to compair it with video games then I shall start laughing now.

There is a reason America has the highest child obesity in the entire world. It is partly to do with diet and it is partly to do with sitting on their asses playing Pokemon. Please tell me with a stright face that playing Pokemon will give me life skills my employer is looking for.
"So your resume says you have 700 hours of Pokemon experience...sorry we need people well versed in Quake 3 and SIMS...flying an airplane needs the type ingenuity that these games teach you to be competitive in the 21st century"

Can everyone afford a blazing fast computer? There is a reason console games shit kick the amount of PC games sold. The console user base is much greater than the fraction of the people with computers fast enough to run the best PC games. Furthermore Dads and Moms would be much happier to spend a couple hundred on a console and have it last 4 or 5 years than spend a couple grand on a gaming computer only to have the kids whining about more RAM in 18 months.

  19. Re:How much cheaper will PCs get? on Gaming Crash up Ahead · · Score: 1

Consoles may be competitive against $1500+ PCs, but we are getting to the point where a top-of-the-line gaming console costs more than an entry-level PC.

No this is not the case. PS2 (which is a DVD and game machine) will retail for $450 or less once the insanity dies down. $450 computer.....ummm anyone want a p166?

When we start getting 3d video cards in those cheap PCs it will be very hard to justify buying a limited machine only for games when one can get a general purpose computer capable of playing the same games.

PC games will always need cutting edge computers and video cards, which in turn will always keep the costs high.
