Actually, HTC tried to lock down the boot image but that was cracked after a few months. Coincidentally or perhaps not, Samsung became the market leader. Maybe HTC and MOTO will perceive a message there. Stranger things have happened.

Whatever. There are so many sources of Android phones that surely some of them won't bother with the lockdown. When others see the market advantage thereby obtained that will be the end of ROM lockdown attempts.

A PS3, even a mini, is too noisy to play music disks or movies in your living room. A PC, preferably running Linux, is a far better media client. More connectivity and much quieter. Also you can use a network enabled amplifier, Onkyo for example, to get the PC into the next room. Of course you could also do that with a PS3 if Sony had not retracted the Other OS option.

On the contrary, Blu Ray player shipments are a small part of LG's business while they are a major part of Sony's.

Looking forward to Sony retreating with tail between its legs on this one. Couldn't happen to a nicer company.

It's cheating in my book. I suggest you look into your own heart and make your own decision. Regardless of what you think, cheating is in Microsoft's DNA and this is because Microsoft is moulded in the image of its founder.

Don't get me wrong, Google is not pristine. I witnessed cheating of various kinds while I worked there, mostly connected with personal advancement. However, cheating in the search engine is explicitly banned. It is not in Google's DNA to cheat at its core business. This is just based on my own observations of course, I certainly did not delve into every little crack of the organization. But this aspect of Google's corporate culture is very much front and center. Naturally in an organization of that size things are bound to slip through the cracks. I do not believe that such behaviour is pervasive at Google, whereas it is at Microsoft, and there it seems even to be glorified, or perhaps a precondition of maintaining a high career velocity.

Sony should instead quit the encyrpted, hardware locked hard drive idiocy. There is no reason whatsoever to do this, locking the hard drive to the processor does not prevent piracy or anything else, it just makes people lose saved data when the box dies, which it does on a regular basis. I am now on my third PS3 hard drive, the previous two are both completely functional with completely inaccessible game saves on them. Thanks a lot for that, Sony.
