Flamebait? I'm dead serious. If I wasn't nearly blind in my left eye, I'd be a Marine right now, in an infantry MOS just as my brother is. He spent his time in Iraq, I only wish I was alongside him helping the people get out from under 30 years of oppression. If I can do it by using my nerd skills, but being sane and having adequate protection (a nerd usually has the ability to think before entering a given situation: going into Iraq now unarmed is suicide, and not something a geek would fucking do), give me the chance.
I'm not in it for the money, I want to help people out. I'd lose money with my earlier statement of $100,000 / year.
If any geek recruiters are reading this: I'm up for it. My off time will be spent hunting scumbags. I will demand that I be allowed to carry my M4 and my USP at ALL TIMES, though. I will have 10,000 rounds of ammo with me. If you have the hookup to get me a M203 to go with my M4 (stupid cheesedick liberals don't let me have one here legally in the US), I'll be much obliged. An MP5 would be nice for CQB needs, but my pump shottie will work just as well if one can't be procured for me.
Here's a tip: Put all of your wall-worts on a seperate power strip from your main machine. Make sure that power stip has a hard power switch, not some standby crap. If at all possible, get a strip with a hard power switch for each outlet. When a wall-wort isn't used, flip the switch to keep power from being wasted. I have 2 of those under-monitor multi-switch power strips with individual switches for my workstation. The computer switch is on 100% of the time as I never, ever turn my machines off. But all the component wall-worts get shut off when I'm not using them.
Heh, luckily it seems that flash is broken in 0.9. I tried installing it earlier (bored), and Firefox would segfault on load on windows. Trashing the plugin database manually fixed it. I'm glad it's broken, no crappy flash for me!
Argh, I can't get any extensions to install on a clean install of 0.9 on win98se. Browsing is going to suck until I can get AdBlock working. Luckily all my AdBlock preferences still exist from a cut/paste into prefs.js.
It's strange, the extension downloads and shows up in the extension manager, then just disappears. No idea why.:(
I get that too, usually a cache purge and a refresh will fix it. I have some weird video problems with my tv card, I figured that was the cause. I guess it's a rendering problem though.
The store I worked in back in HS had one old ass 'server' which all the terminals and printers were networked to, using 10base2 no less!:)
I had to replace segments of of coax frequently as people would yank them out of the walls while moving equipment for cleaning (yes, we cleaned. I held the record for fastest spotless kitchen close @ 12 minutes flat). I was the only one with a clue, and the store manager didn't want to call in a service tech if he could get me to do it for free.
The server would dial-up at the end of the day to the franchise's office, probably a cron job. I wasn't allowed to touch that though. Damn shame, it was probably my only chance to touch some ancient crap hardware.
Why do religious institutions not have to pay land tax on valuable real estate, but I pay a lot of taxes every year on real estate. Most of them are corporations, they should pay the equivalent real estate tax for the land they use. Allowing religious institutions to skip taxes is in effect respecting an establishment of religion. If the donating members of that institution feel it should exist, they'll donate enough to cover real estate tax, or it's not valuable enough to society in general to allow the institution to continue in existence.
Besides, the government only makes us pay taxes because we've granted them that power. We can revoke it at any time with sufficient will of the people (I'm assuming you live in the US; assumption is the mother of all fuckups, however). The first tax issue I'd solve is the abolishment of the individual income tax. We allow corporations to exist by granting them their charters. By granting them their charters, we essentially are building a machine to generate revenue for the government. Tax the corporations fairly, and show slight restraint in spending, and you can get rid of personal income taxes completely. Yes, I've done the math for a 10% corporate tax on gross revenue, it works out really well.
You serve me no purpose and you're using valuable air. Please go away or pay more taxes to exist:p I probably paid more in taxes last year than you have in the last 5. I don't want to get in a pissing match here, though. It's pointless unless we know each other's financial situation.
A quick parsing of my maillog from the pat 48 shows 1,248 reject attempts, all from domains that don't reverse to a hostname and are in net-blocks assigned to China. I was getting about 3,000 messages a day, about the ratio that was being sent to/dev/null by spamassassin. Requiring the HELO has drastically cut the load on the machine due to procmail and SA not being passed garbage. I'm sure this is only a stopgap until some spammers start implementing HELO replies, as they get around every filter type eventually. But for now, it's working.
From is implied with the word 'of'. And I'm completely in favor of removing ALL religious horseshit from government. And charging churches with taxes just as any other corporation. They serve me no purpose but use the country's resources. Churches (synagogues, mosques, etc.) should pay to exist too.
Now, the easy solution to the starving people problem is to introduce a human predator into the environment. I'm thinking some bears or wolves that won't have much else to eat other than starving humans, because the starving humans bred too much and used way too many food resources.
Philanthropy is a great idea, in theory, but sending money to feed people in deplorable conditions doesn't help solve the problem, it only worsens it. If two adults can't get find enough food to live on, why should they continue fucking and popping out 10-20 babies that need food too. There's enough resources in almost any part of the world to sustain a limited population, but overpopulation by ignorant beings is the cause of their plight.
The same thing happens with Whitetail Deer, which is why I hunt them. Deer provide me food. I, and a couple million other men and women, provide deer with a stable population so they can remain healthy.
Postfix's smtpd_helo_required, when set to yes (default is no) rejects any connection that doesn't provide a HELO/EHLO response when connecting. A properly config'd machine will provide the response.
I implemented some new spam fighting techniques last night. The most effective one from logs since implementation was making HELO checks mandatory in Postfix. If the sending client doesn't submit an EHLO response, Postfix rejects the client. Since this happens before message transmission, it seems that not nearly as much bandwidth is being used (haven't verified that yet.) I'm surprised this isn't on by default in Postfix, but it sure is funny to see all these hosts rejected. None of them even resolve, there's no way that it's legitimate mail. If it is, too damn bad.
Of course, not all digital cameras have LCD displays, and there are times when you really don't want to use one. If you are looking through a viewfinder, then an SLR is the only way to avoid paralax issues.
The Kodak DX6490 uses both a large LCD for normal DigiCam use and a much smaller LCD in the viewfinder instead of an optical viewfinder to eliminate parallax issues while still maintaining a viewfinder and an LCD.
May I suggest that you buy NOFX's Pump Up The Valuum for your mom? Track 3 is titled What's the Matter With Parents, I think Fat Mike wrote it to describe your mom.
"Laying 'round on the couch, with my Misfits records out, softly banging your head..."
Exactly the reason I hate playing indoor with anyone under 18. I blasted a little kid point blank after he refused to surrender. That course chronos at 240 and he was wearing 2 sweatshirts, he probably didn't feel it, sadly.
Stupid kids, they should not be allowed out of the house into public until they're at least 15.
I need to get some more guys together for a good 3 day scenario. That's what I call fun.
Discover starts with a 6. I had an account with them, too bad Discover sucks once you have established credit and can get real accounts with lower interest rates. I don't have open accounts with them now.
Actually, that's not a bad idea. Instead of this religious bullshit with tossing people in the ground or burning them for no reason at all, if dead bodies work fine in this process, toss them in there with the turkey guts. I volunteer when I'm dead.
To tell ya the truth, the current rise in gas prices led me to buy a new bike and start riding to work, which is a good thing. I have a feeling more than just myself had the same idea. Maybe demand has gone down ever so slightly (hopefully?)
Even with my car getting 40/35 MPG in the summer, and my commute only 5 miles round trip, my new bike displaced the cost of gasoline for the summer, so it's essentially free (upfront cost of $350 compared to $20/week during 20 weeks of riding weather)!

The guy didn't read pricewatch very carefully. I checked, becase I was going to order 100 of them at $3 each. Turns out thats the price of IDE cables.

As an intelligent human seeing a nasty overpopulation problem, I made the decision to never, ever have kids. Snip-snip, and I'm not even 30.
:)
You know any females that don't want kids?
