I dunno, regardless of where you post, I've been brought up to believe that anything you submit online should be considered no more secure than whispering it into someones ear...
lol, i concur , he said what needed to be said, someone mod this fellow up.. not flamebait at all, valid statement..
valid especially from a slashdot perspective, in fact
consider most zealots who post here, most are in fact posting from a perspective of greed or convenience... and most are ridiculed, and called stupid.. =)
never sign anything that will inhibit your ability to do anything in your specific field of expertise. Seriously! I'll betcha at some point, you will wish you hadn't.
Some registars/and hosting companies do this as a service.
For example, godaddy.com offers placing their information instead for a fee. I know this isnt as bad as say 9999999 xxxxxxxx but the fact remains, it hides the real identity.
If people are placing false information due to privacy concerns, I wonder, should access to this information be restricted to certain officials?
Thank you guys, I so needed this this morning. Amongst everything else I managed to find something to laugh about. Though I'm sure it's.. ahem.. not a laughing matter.... (not intended flaimbait, and no sarcasm intended, it floored me as I read the article)
well. . I mean I guess it wouldnt matter to me wheather it was a len or a wire cutter. 1500 dollers might cover a good portion of the hardware costs, but usually the information on the drive itself is far more sensitive. What they need is a lock that causes the computer to self distruct.=) it not only protects the programmer, but teaches the thief a good lesson!
When reading the article, was mentioned that names and addresses would come through the courts then financial settlements would be made. In this situation, how would a person be able to defend themselves? What if there was a mistake? Couldn't this system be horribly abused as well?
Also this may be completely irrelivant, but I wonder what they are doing with violators offshore or out of country. I thought that was originally one of the biggest concerns about trying to govern the internet. Who inforces what? Are only Americans a target?
forgive my harsh humor, but I'm having the scene the south park movie with sudam husien.
"Damn Windows 98! Get Bill Gates in here!!" "You said windows 98 would be faster, more stable on the internet" "Well it is, more than 4X. . . . " BANG! .. yes im done. though I know mu karma will suffer!=)
when you buy windows as opposed to downloading a free operating system you expect a few things. First and formost you expect that the system will work properly. everyone has to expect a bug or to, programming isnt always a science. The problem is that MS rushes to be the first to get stuf fout and doesnt bother implementing it properly. Thats what the patches are for.
When you use Linux, you are underthe understandingthe the product is evolving. The key here is that you DID NOT PAY FOR IT!

hmm, you know, you may be on to something. . sounds to me like security holes could be found relatively quickly=)
Shoot me, shoot me now!
Thats actually pretty neat.
.
imagine all the possibilities with this type of technology. The article refered to things like cleaning the environment.
. . . though I wonder what types of biological weapons could come from this.
its both scary and exciting at the same time.=)
I can imagine the headline. . , hitman kills a bunch-o 14 year olds for 40 grand=)
Perhaps the code was specifically designed to simulate the actual counting process..
or some silly programmer implemented the 1 for you 2 for me algorithm=)
Yeah really, howd that be for an anti-trust suit.=)
but deep down inside . . everything is linux right?=)
I dont know that this is new news,
Microsoft seems to have been taking heat for something or another for as long as I can remember.
On the otherhand, all compitition play dirty. Dont they?
It does sound like a video game.
I wonder if the "network" keeps track of Frags?
There is a major difference though!
