This worries me, the DMCA has simply be used as a hammer to knock people around who practise fair use. Canada's copyright laws are perfectly fine the way they are, and continue to strike a pleasant balance between the rights of the population, and the rights of the creators.
Since the CRIA is behind this push, we can only assume that they have the ear of the House of Commons. They were the ones who wanted, and got, taxes on recordable media given to them to promote "Canadian Talent", but they can't have it both ways...
I sincerely believe that the Senate Committee which will be spawned by the proposed amendments to the Copyright Act come around will probably come to the same conclusion as they have before.
The DMCA in the US has been a dismal failure, and there is no need to repeat this same error in Canada.
That may be, but Canada has refused access to anyone who has prior convictions which have equivilent offences in Canadian Law. If someone's only crime is to dodge the draft, I am pretty sure they will be allowed to stay.
Canada has been busy passing privacy laws, and privacy edicts preventing business with US Corporations because they can not guarantee the security of information stored with them. It would be suicide for any government to go against privacy in any way. In fact if this minority government lasts out the next year, Canada will be without an Anti-terrorism act so Paul Martin can sit pretty as Prime Minister of an elected Majority Government.
Canada's Smart Border Initiative with the United States states that American draft dodgers must be turned away at the border crossings. It fails to mention if you got into Canada another way.
Let us remember that the Canadian-US border is the world's largest unprotected border, and it's VERY easy to simply walk across it without any party able to stop it before it is crossed. And once your in Canada, you're subject to Canadian laws INCLUDING the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Good luck to the US trying to get the Supreme Court of Canada to justify military service with the Charter.
Specifically some of my webdesign. I never touch tables anymore. I only use XHTML/CSS, my problem was that the div didn't seem to follow the relative positioning within the margins I provided all the time, and was unreliable to the point that I decided to just change to absolute positioning and hope for the best when rendered elsewhere.
The main content column spills over into the first column, a reload usually fixes it. I've noticed this issue on other sites that are XHTML/CSS w3c standards compliant.
Well, Mr Anonymous Coward... I don't consider myself an open source zealot... I'm often paranoid enough not to want to install anything binary on my linux box. But the main reason why I hope Exeem dies a firey death is because it is based off of, and quite dependant on the torrent network... and the protocol will be pretty much the same...
And Bit Torrent's source is availible for all to see. I just think it would make sense, and allow for faster development if it was open source.
That's pretty much it, and besides, watching "a firey death" is always fun. Like a train wreck.
Drum up Exeem? Since I read somewhere that it's closed source, and there is no intent to port it to linux... I hope Exeem dies a firey death, as places like suprnova can easily be replaced.
Now if Exeem because opensource, and becomes availible for Linux... well... another matter entirely.
As people, Canadians are very sorry for not containing Celine Dion ourselves, and allowing her to reak havoc on the world. Thanks be to all Americans who helped pay for her containment prison in the Nevada Desert.
The US military is only as good as it's equipment. Canadian forces are much better trained, even our cadets seemingly are better trained than the 'elite' of the US military.
I actually complained about SG1 being renewed too, I think Stargate SG1 needs to be retired. Not much you can really do about it though, they can milk out money for that extra season.
But onto the subject of 'Avatar' (The episode where Teal'c is stuck in that gaming chair), this episode was created as advertisment for Stargate's new video game. Which made the episode feel cheaper than it was originally. I'm not certain, but the game footage in the episode could possibly have been done through the game engine used in the to be released video game.
I'm fairly young, and learned in school sponsored research by the Tabaco Companies saying smoking is good for you way back when.
And I always love that 95.43% of statistics are made up on the spot, 64.29% of statistics are distorted to bring about a baised conclusion, and 139.75% of both these types of statistics just don't add up.

Okay, maybe it's not that bad, but it's about time Internet became internet.
That they really won't be too up at odds with the security patches being released a month earlier for the US Government.
The average computer user would:
a) Not think that.
b) Not think of linux as a substitute for Windows.
Because the average computer user doesn't install security patches anyways!
And if your MP is Carylon Parrish, just say that it's based off an American law...

There goes all the money I set aside for my Christmas shopping.
Why would people go to his site using a text only browser?

can someone tell me how old you have to be to get any of these jokes?
Wouldn't "exposing secretive inner workings" make the US government want to shut down p2p even more?
