With work going full force on Windows Vista, you would have to understand that Microsoft has other things on its plate. Also, perhaps these issues are a little more difficult to fix.

I hope you're being facetious because making excuses for the world's largest software company is just plain ignorant.

They have NO excuse. Period. OpenBSD, a free open source operating system, is constantly auditing their code for security flaws. Windows has millions, perhaps billions of more code to audit, however they also have billions of dollars to spend on it.

The only excuses they have is carelessness and arrogance.

In case you have been living in a cave the United Nations, the EU, and pretty much the rest of the world have stated for the record that TLDs should be under international control instead of under control of one particular government agency.

Since the Internet _is_ an international entity, why should one particular government agency have control of the root DNS? Don't you see the implications of this? If you don't, see line #1 of this reply.

A more open, international approach to this issue would have prevented the happenings in the FA.

There is no NEED for a GUI on the server. Keep the admin tools on the client! If you can't administer AD from your client, restart the AD Admin Service on the service.

Admins should only physically touch servers when there is a hardware problem or network problem. If you are sitting on the console of your server using the GUI, I would suggest that you are not a very experienced sysadmin.

  6. What I'm Interested In on Windows vs. Linux Study Author Replies · · Score: 1

I would be much more interested in seeing a whitepaper that compares reliability between Windows and FreeBSD.

FreeBSD is a pure, cohesive operating system. Linux is not. I'm not bashing Linux here, but if you have used FreeBSD you already know that Linux does not have the same cohesiveness, and therefore feels like a bunch of utilities slapped on top of a kernel, and a few added scripts to make it all work.

With FreeBSD you would not run into an issue where, "GLIBC had to be updated first" in order to allow for a MySQL upgrade.

Several companies doing what they can to GNU/Linux to personalize it and make it their own. What works on one Linux distribution may or may not work on another. There is, however, only one FreeBSD.
