how glib we can be about such disasterous and fundamental climate changes to our planet. I remember reading about how a scientist wept when he realized the effect global warming has made.
...I just don't know if it makes him a very humane boss or human being.
Oh puleese, he's not Hitler forcryinoutloud! Jeff Bezos is a businessman whose responsible for one of the largest and most impressive databases in the world - and the most omnipresent retailer on the internet! Stick with the jokes and stop villanizing him.
As I remember Max Headroom, it just wasn't that good, even for a drooling veghead kid like I was. The animation sequences were too damn short and the action scenes were about on par with "The Littlest Hobo". No good. Let it die.
It's a shame the Dreamcast is dead, because it has what I would consider the best game ever made: Shenmue. It's a piece of art IMO. Rent it and savour every moment of it.
When I bought the boxed Redhat 7.0 Standard edition - everytime I did a kernel recompile - messages would alert me that at least 10 checksums did not match! This is a little alarming considering I plunked down $70 for an official retail version [flagship] distribution.
Moral of the story: don't walk away when hacking the kernel (and don't follow Redhat's kernel recompiling instructions either in their own documentation). Do it the standard way and read the output!
As polished as Redhat 7.1 is, it still needs alot of work. For instance, kernel recompiling is nearly impossible under a workstation-class installation without errors, and the much-touted Redhat Network is (IMHO) anti-intuitive. There is also no 1-800 number you can call for service or technical advice, only an email address (which is completely useless when you have a munged operating system).
Note to Redhat: You got the branding downpat, now work on product and service issues.
Again, the Redhat distribution is excellent (my personal fave) but it's far from perfect. When I punk down $70 CDN for software, I have high expectations.
The television in your livingroom will likely become the family PC in the near future, with internet content becoming more and more intergrated with the growing universe of specialty channels and vice versa. One medium won't usurp the other, both TV and the internet are evolving into a new hybrid media. We see it already with interactive cable and satellite TV w/ TiVo.
Heck, the keyboard, tower and monitor setup may be an historic archive sooner than we think...
Maybe this is the much needed "kick in the pants" SuSE needs to rejuvinate their product and workforce. In professional sports, replacing the head coach often proves effective in refocusing the team - and as we know - sports and business nowadays is the same damn thing.
If SuSE wants to lead the Linux world (and they have a chance), they're going to have to truly innovate to differenciate themselves from the other distributions, not just incrementally improve.
which shows you how to run IE 5 in Linux. Someone wrote me recently stating v5.5 doesn't work w/ the command-line parameters i used, but I know personally circa 5.0 does. It works decently too, rendering pages nearly as well as the Windows counterpart.
While we're on the subject of file traders, are there any reliable peer-to-peer apps for Linux? I've been completely underwhelmed by AudioGalaxy, Hagelslag, Gnewtellium and the like. Alot of them just don't work or are so counter-intuitive I make clean after 5 minutes. Any suggestions?

If you've got cpu cycles to burn, why not use it on a worthwhile project like Genome@home, which strives to improve understanding on the evolution of natural genomes and how they operate. They even have a proven track record. There is also Popular Power, which continues working towards a more effective influenza vaccine even though they're out of business.
A listing of notable distributed computing projects are here - (http://www.hardcorelinux.com/distributed-computin g.htm for all you goatse.cx traumatized).

With Eazel taking the ball with them - in this case it's the live access to online storage and the ultracool "one click" software download and installation service - Nautilus is now a one trick pony.
It was Nautilus' webcentricity that made it great, I hope somehow it can continue in some form or other. The project was brilliant.

If you can run WMP under Linux with wine then you should be able to use it as a browser plugin with this. At least till the next version of WMP when Microsoft will find some way to break the Wine compatability of WMP.
Doesn't sound like much of a solution. Linux users (like their M$ bretheren) should have audio and video deployed automatically by the browser without first doing serious black magic at the terminal.

This so-called universal browser plugin must be able to deftly handle Windows Media Player files (x-mplayer2 or whatever format name it uses) which seems to be swallowing the internet whole. Video players Aktion and xMovie (while good in their own modest way) aren't the solution. I want to be able to watch all the cool freaks on U8TV unhindered by the os I'm using, and so far I haven't been able to do that.
I hope your listening CodeWeavers.

This story isn't a good idea for Carmack - just on the PR level alone it's fucking awful [Insert your reason here]. I'm sure John's neighbours we're already on red alert with this guy:)

The capability for Linux to deploy all software from any operating system architecture should be a goal of the Linux community... it's a clear advantage over the limitations of Microsoft products. TransGaming Technologies smashes yet another lame excuse not to consider Linux - this time it's gaming. Nothing to fear. Conquest as usual.

or better yet...

I couldn't agree with you more. SCII was indeed a historic moment in gaming - period - and IMHO the best game the 3DO ever released.

What about cool games that don't require a P4 screamer with a cutting edge video card?
Any recommendations?

Microsoft spokesman David Hufford said, "Xbox has caught fire since launch."
He quickly added, "But that's a feature, not a flaw."

How the fuck is this post scored a 3? I visited the site with my wimpy 56k modem no prob.
Let's moderate up the comments which offer some new insight in the story, not just regurgitation.
