It's not public. It's only public because the dems disclosed it. You can't tell who is and is not registered republican in that way.
Assuming you're right... and hey... who amongst us is an expert... I agree that is a problem.
That said, you have to admit the dems are pushing a line here. If you're one of the friends of the dems I was referring to above. I understand your position and empathize. I don't need to harm the party. I just need to dissuade them from doing this again. So come up with a friendly way to say "no" in a way they'll understand... and i'm okay with it.
Truly, there's no reason to make this into a political issue. Some PR people got a little overly enthusiastic and it needs to be made clear that's a line they shouldn't cross. Nothing more or less. Truly, no need to get factional over this... I should think that all party factions would like their privacy respected in this matter.
Even better in some states you don't need to register to vote in primaries.
This is a gross violation of privacy.
There are two issues here.
1. Some democrats aren't going to want their neighbors to know they're democrats.
2. What if the whole neighborhood pops up blue but one house isn't. Does that guy get singled out now?
I'm sure this sounded like a great idea when they were doing their "community organizing" meetings. But in practice it just leads to bad places. This app needs to be killed and the Dems probably should have a modest lawsuit payout for violating privacy rights. I don't want to come too down too hard on them mostly for political reasons. It's not practical to attack any of the major parties in that way. They're both too well protected and have too many friends. But it needs to be understood that you don't out people that register without their consent.
Didn't one of the researchers claim he made things up? I remember one of the researchers in his study left and said he leapt to the conclusion.
NOTE I AM NOT saying is or is not real. I don't know. I'm not a climate scientist. Flip a coin and that will be as good as my guess.
That said, there was drama with this study months ago.
Also... did they release the Berkeley earth data yet? Because last time I checked they didn't disclose everything yet. Maybe they did and I just don't know how to look. Not sure. But that's sort of a key issue here.
Anyway, I'm glad it's being researched. Either way this is something that needs to be researched comprehensively.
and most of them run as well as anything made yesterday. It's all in how you build it. Build it robust and to last and it can go for a lot more then 80 years.
This does require maintenance. Those old machines loved their oil. Some of them literally bathed in it. Likewise, I don't know if I'd trust anything that hadn't been maintained in 80 years. But if it's getting constant attention and was built properly then there's no reason it couldn't last practically forever.
I'm struggling to see something that would be that much fun short of... well... boobs. It's primal. You get an adrenaline rush. Your heart beats fast. Time slows down. And you dodge death by inches to kill your opponent.
Try to come up with a kittens and cream version of that.
Are we sick? Is this anti social behavior? I couldn't say. It seems pretty common and normal. It's deep in the blood.
And all the studies have made it clear that people make a clear distinction between make believe killing and real killing. It doesn't make us monsters just because we enjoy slaughtering orcs or whatever.
All the political activists need to get out of science right now.
Science didn't get where it is today through public relations, deals with politicians, ad campaigns, marketing, rigged documentaries, and other nonsense.
It got where it is by showing empirical results and humbly being right in extreme detail.
The people trying to use science to push their pathetic little agendas need to be driven out of science. They track their dirty feet all over those honored halls.
They don't need to be right to win. Simply treating them like normal people tends to mean you lose.
You have to treat them like cockroaches. No compromise. No accommodation. No common courtesy. Offer them retreat from your sight or endless harassment.
In regards to minecraft. Love the game. Love voxel gaming especially. I'm enjoying looking at all the new games that use voxels. Castlestory looks good... it's a voxel RTS. And there is starsiege which is a voxel FPS. THere is also a voxel RPG out that escapes me. I love these game. I can't wait until all games make use of voxels. Truly destroyable terrain. Infinitely moddable maps. Voxel MMOs might be interesting as well. Something like planetscape with voxels. Rather then let the developers make all the bases for the players to defend, make cooperative base building be part of the game. That way bases can't be memorized.
Notch should think about it like this... he was targeted because he looked like he was successful. These guys tend to not bother people that are failures. So toast to your success.
We're spending more on education then we did 20 years ago and the test scores keep falling. This is not a problem you can fix by throwing money at it.
One thing that probably has to happen is not just rewarding good teachers. We need to fire the bad ones. And I mean fire... not move into management where they then proceed to screw things up at an administrative level. Not moved into rubber rooms where they eat up finite resources while doing little more then the daily crossword puzzle.
And excellence in teaching furthermore is not a measure of how many years you've been teaching. Too often teachers are judged by how long they've been teachers as if a teacher that has been doing a bad job for 10 years is superior to a new teacher that has been doing a good job for 2 years.
Seniority needs to die. Utterly. And this notion that any teacher that remains on the job for over 3 years suddenly can't be fired ever is not functional. If they just made it through those three years and then totally slack off in many school systems there is nothing you can do about it. That isn't fair to the children and it isn't fair to the parents.
Clear out the bad teachers, bring in new blood, and you'll change the culture of public education back to what it once was... about teaching kids. Not babysitting problems or staring at the ceiling until your pension vests.
It is one of the weaknesses of our system that only the official prosecutors can file criminal charges. I see no reason why private parties shouldn't be able to file criminal charges. They would of course be paying for the prosecutor's wages.
The only difference is that at the end you wouldn't pay out a court settlement... you'd go to prison.
Everything needs to be on record. It has to be a criminal offense to systematically use systems with no log. These people are public officials with enormous power. The ability to find out who knew what when is vital to the public trust.
What public officials are effectively saying is that we need to make this a felony for them to take it seriously. A felony conviction amongst other things would invalidate them from public service ever again. So indifferent to whether they actually served any jail time it would be the irrevocable end to their political career.
I don't see any reason to bother even sending them to jail for it. Just give them a felony conviction with a 1000 dollar fine for court fees.
So there is the solution to world peace. Ladies, open your legs. You're apparently responsible for all world conflicts by being frigid bitches./s
It's an observation without a solution. Young men without girlfriends do tend to be problem makers. It's been an issue for thousands of years. You see it in the wild as well. In animal herds the males without harems are the primary source of drama in the herd. They challenge the dominant males... they sometimes attack the females.... there are instances where the male will just rush an unguarded female and try to mount her before the bull can respond. On and on.
There's no real solution here. A possible thing that could be considered is giving the hackers jobs. But then again no one trusts them. They've been shown to have questionable morals which means you don't trust them near the family jewels. You don't make such people the keepers of secrets.
But you'd need to get most people to agree on the new standard all at the same time. Or otherwise push some must have hot product that everyone ultimately adopts.
It depends on how well the interface is structured. If options are represented graphically in order you can go through hundreds of options quickly in an intuitive fashion.
Look at turbo tax. Fully GUI. It asks you one question at a time and eventually it sends off a tax return directly to the federal government. My last tax return was over 300 pages long. All automatically filled out.
Now could have that been done with a CLI? Yes. Really, it sort of was... it asked me a lot of yes and no questions followed by stating some hard figures. But it would have been a nightmare to type that all into a single command line. Such as "Turbotax.exe/L/R/M/S/UA/TA "income number"/etc.
You like CLI... Fantastic. I wouldn't part you from it. I'm just saying provide a GUI. And it's not that hard. Without a full GUI interface you're going to turn off a lot of users you'll need to get hardware developers to write drivers.
so if we had no radio telescopes and only our own ears... would you fund scientists to listen to the stars?... with their ears?
Don't be silly. The tech is useless for the application. When we have tech that can be used for the purpose SETI should be funded. But until then it's a meaningless waste of money.
NASA's budget goes to something that isn't bs. You might as well have a Tooth Fairy budget.
And no, I'm not saying there are no aliens... I have no way of knowing that. But I do know that radio telescopes aren't going to pick up alien transmissions. It's a waste of time.
Wrong. They only have two options BECAUSE of regulation.
If your regulation caused the situation increasing it is unlikely to make everything all better.
As it stands we only have one cable and telephone company in each neighborhood because they're not allowed to compete.
Allow any telecommunications company to put cables on the pole and we'll have a similar situation to what we have with cellphones. Cellphones are also very regulated but they're less regulated then cable and telephones.
Get some competition and the company will have to keep the customer's happy. Do you honestly think writing a bunch laws is going to force the companies to give you better service? Why? And who says they have to give it to you at a good price? Look at the Mexican Telephone company. Only one telephone company in mexico... very expensive and bad service. That's what government monopolies get you.
Just let anyone run service and no company can get away with offering bad service. They'll go out of business if they try.
It's certainly a factor. Texas is disliked by by certain political factions that find it's political power and economic ascendance to be inconvenient.
Don't take it personally. All the powerful states have enemies. I live in California... believe me. We have our enemies. Texas tends to get screwed more often then California by national politics but that's because texas is bad at playing political games.
Look at texas politicians... are they known for being great orators? It's a problem. Indifferent to the state's politics, they need to hire more competent politicians or they're going to get screwed repeatedly. They have more then enough power to protect themselves if they're defended competently.
we're not giving nasa that much money and seti is hardly a worthy pursuit.
You're paying people to listen for patterns in radio telescopes.
From what we've learned about radio signals, they're not a reasonable means of interstellar communication. That is indifferent to whether we're alone or not.
If aliens are talking to us then it's unlikely to be in radio waves.
It's not public. It's only public because the dems disclosed it. You can't tell who is and is not registered republican in that way.

Think about it. Someone is sitting in a room with monitors apparently watching/listening to these feeds? My god why...

Either get in and be serious or don't.
Stop buying up companies only to mismanage them into oblivion.
It would be pretty choice irony.
They should make that part of the event. Every time they should use the registrant's information to try and scam the whole group.
Not take money or whatever. But just as a challenge and a reminder.
All the political activists need to get out of science right now.

no, I was just wrong. I assumed that if you weren't allowed to vote you sure as hell weren't allowed to run for congress.
Sorry. My mistake.
