    Depending on where you're moving, you might get deals a lot better than shitty T-DSL. We pay about 50 Euros a month for a package of (non-ISDN) phone, cable TV and 2 Mbit/s cable connection, and you don't even have to buy the cable modem. It's limited to my town though, but there are several companies like this in Germany.

    If you do have to get DSL, QSC is offering faster lines than the Deutsche Telekom, although I don't know how reliable they are.

    Oh yes, one other thing: take everything you know about customer service and flush it. Sad, but true.

    In another Slashdot discussion about GTA3 someone mentioned that the 80s station played most of the music from "Scarface" with Al Pacino. I found this pretty surprising, especially since I thought that the music had been made up, crappy as it was. :)

    IIRC, the downloading part in the license is about Webstart. I've never heard that a conventionally installed JRE is able to update itself, although I would really like that feature.

    So don't use Webstart.

    I don't know if that was some kind of Mac inside joke, anyway, I recently saw a Mac in a store, and the mouse had no buttons. You had to "lean forward" on the mouse in order to click.

    USB ports on the casefront are becoming more common, or you could get extension cords for machines you regularly work at.

    To really be able to drop the floppy, USB sticks need to be bootable ! I read that they're working on that, but it will obviously need a while to get widely adopted. Even with faster and faster CD writers, I wouldn't want to create a CD just to get a boot "floppy".

    You should fix your parser then, there's nothing inherently illegitimate about popup windows. Gaming sites for example routinely open screenshots in popups.

    Annoying ? Maybe, but if that's how they want to run their site...

    Mozilla (1.2.1) doesn't have a UI for disabling window.open() completely, but I'm sure you'll find something for the preferences file if you look around.

    I think it was a serious blunder to draw a Roswell-style alien. But the worst thing: the message was encoded in fricken ASCII.

    Until someone comes up with a good explanation why wood-fairies or earth-spirits need a form-feed character in their alphabet, my money will remain on incredibly determined teams of pranksters. There's money to be made off these things as well.

    Ah, that might explain it ! There are many different dialects in Germany, some (especially in the southern parts) downright incomprehensible to the rest. :)

    The way I described it would be the dialect-free version.

    Or did your friends talk about foosball on New Year's Eve ? :*)

    I have no idea how Americans pronounce "foosball" or "ferssbal", but as a German I can say that the "u" in "Fußball" is pronounced like the "oo" in "spook" or "hoot". I can think of no way to pronounce "er" that comes close to that. And the "b" is absolutely not pronounced like a "p".

    I'm guessing that "foosball" sounds very close to the german "Fußball", except for the "a".

    I sure noticed that, the point is that the lawyer's name is quite irrelevant to the story. It would have been enough to mention that a lawyer has been set loose, instead of taping this virtual "Kick Me" to him.

    Weird, I did the usual install root, run as root routine, to create whatever it needs to create in its installation directory.
    But when I try to run it as a non-root user, nothing happens, no error message.

    Any ideas ? I think I'm going back to version 1.0.1 in the meantime.
