Well I haven't read the books (uh oh, now I'm going to get lynched), but it was perfectly clear to me that Gandalf wasn't dead. It was in the way he told the fellowship to run, and then let go of the edge he was hanging on to. The only way to make it more obvious would have been showing him performing a flip. Plus, we didn't see the body.
The Linux server for TS2 is rock-solid. It's running on my box 24/7 and I only have to shut it down to update.
The installation might intimidate some people, because this thing is built to scale. You have a superadmin who can set up several servers, all with their own admins, channel ops and whatnot, but you can configure all of that through the web interface, or the client.
What fiasco was that ? All I can remember is that the release candidates for version 2 have/had a limited life span, which is widely known (FYI: it's still in RC status). No problem if you can read instructions.
As a PC gamer, you're used to patching and upgrading all the time, so what's the problem with updating one more piece of software ?
Well Bitch of Frank, I'm even running it on fairly new hardware, and it still runs like shit. But since it's not an overly creative take on Breakout anyway, I don't really care. Same goes for your continued existence, so I think I'll stop participating in this thread right here. Bye.
I'm using Miranda and its Jabber plugin when in Windows. It's a nice little IM client, the plugin doesn't have advanced Jabber features like file transfer etc., but I only need it for chatting anyway. Haven't noticed any instabilities.
Watch out though, you currently need Miranda's nightly builds to use the latest plugin release.
Let's see, I still have a couple of machines running Red Hat 6.2, which hit EOL in March. Number of any kind of updates for RH 6.2 since March: 0.
Looks like EOL really means EOL. That's why I'm currently looking into Debian for a "long-life" distribution. Never thought I'd do that...
I just found the e-mail from Red Hat:
In accordance with our errata support policy the Red Hat Linux 6.2 and Red Hat Linux 7 distributions have now reached their end-of-life for errata maintenance. This means that we will no longer be producing security, bugfix, or enhancement updates for these products.
As much as I love Jabber, that's simply not true. Jabber has no widely implemented encryption between all links, and file transfer is not exactly its strong side.
People like you probably work for this company. The thought that maybe it would be a good idea not to produce so much waste never crossed your mind, right ?
Simply because my trash is conveniently removed from my sight doesn't incite me to go produce some more. Of course I also have a good amount of trash in my bin every week, but I want it to go down, not up !
Am I the only one who thinks that the concept of single-use DVDs is so absurd that there must be something seriously wrong with the people who came up with it ?
Simplicity mostly. Why use a pile of different file formats, tools and plugins when they're going to integrate it all into Ogg eventually ?
So using.ogg as a container for FLAC is working, is this the real deal, or just a preliminary hack ?
Defining the file format is only one thing of course, playing the files is kind of important too. Do all the Ogg plugins have to implement "sub-plugins" now, or how does that work ? I'd imagine that when you open an Ogg file containing FLAC with xmms or Winamp, it's going to be handed to the Vorbis decoder currently.
Status of Ogg FLAC ?

It has been pretty quiet since the announcement about the FLAC project joining Xiph.org. The Ogg project page still links to the FLAC SourceForge page. Does anyone know what the status of Ogg FLAC is ?

The coolest new feature in 1.4 for me was the ability to specify a group of tabs that opens with the first Mozilla window, but not further windows or tabs in the current session. This enables me to start Mozilla with my regular news sites, and have empty windows when I press ctrl-n.
And I also use "type ahead find" quite often now.

No, the thing that makes the movie so loathsome are the incredibly annoying sidekicks Indy is stuck with for the entire movie.
After the awesome female lead in Raiders, we now have a bimbo that is the very definition of damsel-in-distress, keeps screaming her head off and worst of all stays alive. (Oh how I wished for her to bite it...)
And Short Round, well, kids in movies not for or about kids are never a good idea. But hey, let's make him speak pidgin english, that'll be funny !
But yes, if you somehow manage to ignore these annoyances for the length of the movie, it's quite enjoyable, mostly.
If you're using Windows, Exodus is a pretty nice Jabber client. Miranda is also excellent, it's an ICQ client, but with tons of plugins (and you can even turn ICQ off). Get Miranda's latest Jabber plugin.
Here's an eDonkey and Overnet link for the .bz2 file (remove the space !):

I liked what The Onion found out about Gigli. :)

Well it can be hardly called an animation, can it ? And yes, today's hardware should be more than adequate to run it smoothly.
So, ess tee eff you, I'd say.
Wow, it really IS a crappy flash game. Is it so hard to write smooth-running flash applets ?

If I kept every single piece of software up-to-date myself, I wouldn't need a distribution.

Interesting, maybe the inspiration for this Avengers episode (and the horrible movie adaptation) ?
Hmm, I had already forgotten that there was a database with the same name.
Click on the icon (in the search bar).
It's the same number of keystrokes:
In Mozilla you open a new tab, enter your search term, press the up arrow (menu wraps around to the search engine) and press enter.
In Firebird you open a new tab, press the tabulator key, enter your search term and press enter.

Careful if you work a lot with bookmarks, you might hit a bug where you can't delete or move bookmarks (in Linux) or the new bookmark folder setting doesn't work.
I'm looking forward to getting my bookmark functionality back in the next release...
