  1. Bestor? on Army Psy Ops Units Targeted American Senators · · Score: 1

I'm more shocked to find out we have a Psy-Ops unit at all. Reminds me of Walter Koenig's role on Babylon-5. And I bet they are probably just as underhanded in real life as his character was. After all, rule of law in America doesn't seem to apply to them, or they already feel they are above the law.

In fact, with all I've been reading about how f*cked up this country is, just this week, I'm starting to think I have a better chance of freedom and privacy if I move to Libya.

"Oh hi, I'm on a bus"... As if that bit of information is so important, that it must be shared with the caller... and everyone else on the bus listening to this useless person blathering away on a cell phone.

Oh if only! To quiet the world. To end resource waste. To bring the population of the planet down to a reasonable, sustainable number. I remember when there were only 3 billion. There was room to breathe.

Now we are heading towards 9 billion before 2050. There will be wars, famine, water rationing, and massive disasters based on us ravaging the planet in search of resources to sustain such a number.

If only cell-phones could kill a few billion. That would be an amazing way to get out of the disaster we are headed towards. But alas, it's too much to hope for.

We're going to need a good, sustained, nuclear exchange before we really have some progress in that area. And unfortunately, that's just going to leave even less resources for the survivors. Cell phones would have made a great way to kill off a lot of people without damaging the rest of the planet. Ah well.

In fact, I think it will soon be mandatory to throw away your computer whenever the sound card stops working and buy a whole new computer! With all your apps "on the cloud" anyhow, it's not like you'll need to re-install anything anyhow.

And yes, it was easier back in the BBS days. Even more annoying is that when you search Google for your drivers, you're led to one crappy site after the other that doesn't have anything, it's just an ad farm that echos back whatever you're looking for. Go ahead type in "purple cow driver" and freedrivers.com will claim to have it, but they of course, do not. Or you have to "join" their site (i.e. pay for the driver), with no guarantee that you'll get the driver even after you join!

The "web" is now one big lie for the purposes of making money. Didn't it *used* to be for sharing documents? At least on a BBS there was a good chance that what you were looking for what you were getting.

I propose we keep one in space. Send it up unmanned, remotely piloted (or send up a single pilot, who's return flight will be provided by the Russians), and keep it docked to the ISS.

This way, the ISS has an "emergency boat" or escape craft if something goes extremely wrong. Furthermore, as Apollo 13 showed us, it's good to have an extra "lifeboat" that the crew could evacuate to if there's a problem aboard the ISS that can't easily be fixed.

It could be both an escape pod and an extra shelter. We know that seven people can fit on the shuttle's living quarters and you can bet the folks up there would appreciate the extra space.

Plus is has it's own O2 scrubbers, fuel cells, and could even be used as a tug to boost the ISS into a better orbit someday. Why throw it away? That makes no sense if we've already got people up there.

In fact, if the government was willing to partially subsidize my purchase of an Electric Car, I'd probably buy one... My only problem is that I don't currently have a clunker to trade in.

The government is going to have to Jump-start an electric car program, no doubt. Manufacturers are hesitant to make them because they percieve no market, but if there's a "forced" market, then they will build 'em. And if people start buying them they will make better and better models.

I think they are going to have to make electrics a new class of vehicle. For example, they should be exempt from having airbags and other heavy safety features that weigh the car down. They should also be allowed in HOV lanes regardless of number of passengers. Motorcycles, for example, *are* like that. Also, in States like NJ, which only perform emissions tests, Electrics obviously should be exempt from inspection.

In other words, pile on so many plusses to having such a car that people might forget about the range limits and other problems.

It's a good thing to start forcing over this change, otherwise, we will all be hurting when gas is $12 a gallon. But to do it, and do it properly, electricity needs to come down in price. That means more nuclear, more renewable sources. America needs to seriously invest in electric infrastructure if Obama is truly serious about having a one million electric cars on the road by 2015.
