Maybe he could offer that - Apple & Google stop censoring apps in their respective app store, and in return, he'll take a 24 hr bath, complete w/ soap, shampoo, water ranging from temperature from 100F to 50C. Win win for everybody involved!
I almost never agree w/ rms, but I've finally found something where I can. The demand that Apple and Microsoft (and for that matter, Google) stop censoring what apps can be installed. I'm not aware about Microsoft censoring anything, since traditional applications can still be installed on Windows 10, but Apple and Google - their respective app stores are the only way to install things. So when they shut out apps like Gab, they are picking their own favored winners & losers
A year ago, when I had KDE, it had the kclipboard which I could use to have multiple clips, and then I could select which one I wanted to paste before pasting. While it was more versatile, it was less automatic for me. After I had to overhaul my TrueOS setup, I ended up w/ just Lumina, and now, I just live w/ the middle click and ctrl-v pastes. Yeah, I could install whatever clipboard TrueOS bundles in, but so far, I haven't seen the need.
As for GNOME, I've never liked either the version 2 nor the version 3. I just wish the GNUSTEP people would step up to make something that both Linux and the BSDs could use OOTB
Actually, my daughter plans on studying in China and then hoping to get a job with a western company and a western salary... then she can live in China, work at the world's top tech companies and live in a place where prices are cheap... at least until the Chinese decide to simply crash the world economy to further communism....So, yeh... cheaper housing would make perfect sense.
If she works in any place where Western companies operate, she won't be living cheap - far from it. Most of the places that Western companies operate are on the coast, be it Suzhou, Fujien, Guangzhou, et al. It's only if one moves to places like Inner Mongolia, Ganzu or Xinxiang that things could get cheaper, but I doubt that those places get WiFi, and I also doubt that any Western company operates there.
Why doesn't the DoD, or even the larger US government just start their own cloud service, and make it available/sell it to various departments of federal, state and local governments, and totally shake taxpayers free of politically biased companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Oracle, et al? It could even be a net income source for the government! Hire a few Unix/Linux veterans, and they'd be off to the races
If you have something actively highlighted, middle-click (or both bottons clicked) will paste that highlighted text. If you've copied something using ctrl-c, ctrl-v will paste that copied text. If that copied text is different from something else subsequently highlighted, ctrl-v and middle click will have different results. Something I find useful when I need to paste different things in different places w/o copying them multiple times
The point is that US foreign policy has been based on what it was during the Cold War, and just like things never change in Washington in other areas, they didn't change in foreign policy either. For instance, take NATO. Once the Cold War was over, there was no need for NATO as a counterblast to Russia. Indeed, in the 1990s, Russia actually wanted to join NATO, but was disallowed. This was during Boris Yeltsin, not Putin, so no one can claim that Russia was being aggressive then. If anything, NATO was, by its unilateral wars against Serbia trying to dismember not just Yugoslavia, but Serbia as well.
On the issue of Yemen, what one has there is an alien vs predator situation: Shi'ite Houthis backed by Iran vs Sunnite Arabs backed by the Saudis and their neighbors. There is really nothing to choose b/w them, and as far as arms go, the Saudis have been shopping from the US ever since the end of the Obama administration. During the Obama administration, the Saudis felt threatened, particularly by the Iran deal, so once Trump came to power, they started arming themselves to the teeth. And the Houthis too have managed to give as good as they gotten - w/ missiles managing to hit Riyadh airport. I'm all for everybody - US, Russia, China, et al selling both sides whatever weapons they want so that they can finish off each other, and leave the rest of the world alone. And unlike Syria, there is no route for Yemenis to flee to Europe, and Somalia ain't that attractive to them either!
Actually, at these scales of under 100nm, semiconductors have already hit the point of diminishing returns. After all, what are the reasons to do a die shrink, rather than just run a chip production off a fab that's already been up and running, and probably written down? It's cost, and at today's level, things like power consumption and speed are distant followers. But when it costs $10B to build a fab that can do one of these, then going from, say, a 30nm to a 14nm would not give a manufacturer the cost savings they were hoping for.
Time to tell people downstream who buy these things that the era of continuous price drops is over! In fact, it ended some 10 years ago
You're absolutely right. Phone numbers and Social Security numbers were never intended to be used as identification.
And there's a simple, common sense solution to the problem. A national I.D. system. But every time someone proposes it, all of the tinfoil hat luddites immediately start screeching that it will inevitably lead to 1984-style Big Brother. (see the comment just below as an example)
Phone numbers and social security numbers ain't exactly similar. One has to apply for an SSN from the government. Phone numbers - one can change one's numbers anytime one feels like, for something like $15. As a previous poster said, he can change it at will making it completely worthless for ID
But since SSNs are already required for identification, here is an idea that would work. Modify the SSN card to become a biometric card w/ photos, SSN and any biometric information that's needed, as well as one's legal status (citizen, legal alien or foreign national). Make this the only official ID card, and stop using Driver Licenses and other things for that. (That way too, states that decide that it's safer to issue DLs to illegal aliens don't have to worry about them getting illegal benefits via that, since they'll need an SSN card to be IDed at all!)
Quite a number of sites would reject any 555- number. And a number of service forms are designed to not proceed unless and until the phone number box is filled
I have a land line and a cellphone number. I provide the landline to anyone who asks, but leave the cellphone to myself. I have set up the landline to forward calls to the cellphone
Let those pieces of shit fail and in 2020 we can finally move forward as the GOP will be completely fucking destroyed and its supporters will be destitute.
The GOP, as it existed before, is completely gone. The people who used to either swear by Reagan, or just push the establishment, first lost in 2016, and this year, in more places than not, have been swept aside by MAGA candidates. Today, to win a GOP primary in most places, one has to be supportive of Trump, rather than the likes of Ryan, McConnell, McCain or Sass. By 2020, all the establishment Republicans who live on hostility to Russia and the no-tariffs ideology should be sleeping w/ the fishes
If and when that happens, the world would have far greater problems than dealing w/ multiplication or trigonometry. Going from an electrified society to one where the day lasts only as long as one can see is asking for major adjustments
Yeah, but that was a couple of hundred years ago. The people who did those would probably be dead by now, or at least retired, and nobody today wastes any effort on those things when computers can do them
I think we haven't done enough to separate these two concepts. We're confusing manipulative lies with opinions incompatible with the worldview of a segment of the population, and it will destroy us.
Besides, why can't Facebook or Twitter just be platforms, w/ no requirement to check for the fakeness of news? Just leave it to all the posters to share whatever they have, and allow all news providers - from Alex Jones to CNN and internationally, from RT to Telemundo to provide content, and let members decide whatever they're interested in, and follow that!
It would work if the Zuckerbergs, Dorseys, Pichais and Nadellas decided to let them, instead of trying to constrain their platform to whatever politically correct underpinnings they wanted them to be
Actually, no! They are Bangladeshi Muslims who live in Burma, but want to run an insurrection against the Burmese government. Which is why not just the ex junta, but even Ahn San Su Ki has resisted international attempts to condemn them. Ahn San could have gone along w/ the Islamic propaganda if she wanted, but she didn't, b'cos she saw what Muslims were doing to her country
Precisely! The same people who are willing to believe Christians or Jews in the West - be it America, Europe or Israel - are somehow willing to believe that the Muslims are the victims in places like ex-Yugoslavia (Bosnia & Kosovo), Burma and India.
On Twitter, Burmese posters have posted pictures of Burmese citizens - both Buddhist and Hindu, not Muslim - who had been beheaded by Muslim rebels in Rankhine. Nobody in the West bothers about that. They're only interested in the Muslim propaganda about Burma from Pakistan, Bangladesh and other international Islamic ambulance chasers

Mom means mother. Mum means silence. Do you English?
Uh, Azure is a FreeBSD, not a Windows server based cloud

Yeah. I'm waiting until I have enough cash to buy a Macbook. Then I'll be gone from both Windows and Android forever.

Alex Jones, is that you?
China, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan and Mexico are far greater problems than Russia

Please port it to the BSDs as well, so that I can run it on this TrueOS computer
One of my friends didn't upgrade to Windows 10 when it was first available. He's looking at doing it now, after other problems w/ his laptop.

How about using log tables to multiply 1.27546 by 10,271,398?
