Not saying I pirate windows or anything of the sort. But jsut because they dont get patches doesnt mean they wont pirate. It just means that when worms come out, it will be that much worse. Pirates tend to be a lil smarter, and actually keep their systems up to date.
I would hate to see sasser or code red hit the large percetage of people that pirate, and CANT patch. Internet go byebye!
Yea. But thats not a good enough reason for them, I am sure. So you are damned if you do (tell them, then they have proof) and damned if you dont (get fined and some such bits).
What does anyone have to gaurentee that what they write wont be used against them latter?
So if you write back, give them a crapy excuse "sorry, I didnt know kazaa was bad" They have proof in writing. PROOF IN WRITING. That you admited to violating the law. Anyone see something wrong with this??
How this for a letter: "Yes, I might have said content, I apologize if I do. Why I have it? I plead the 5th"
Intresting article I am sure. But before more than a few comments are posted, its already toasted. The editors need to have some sort of mirror... google, anything.
This obviously wasnt a translation for the british readers, its to give the american readers the term they need, with out calling them stupid americans (me included).
Reading that RFC is like reading the creation story of the internet, you can see where some of the things they come up with wayyyyy back then, have moved now. Normally I am not much for reading RFC's, but thats really intresting, if for nothing else to see how far we have gone in just 35 years.
This stuff is so lame, regardless if it is an april fools jokes or not... Why are we posting "help my find my stolen stuff" on/.... IS THERE NO NEWS TODAY?
Such a lame joke. I mean it might be an intresting, good april fools... IF IT WERE ANYWHERE REMOTELY NEAR POSSIBLE.
I have an idea, if the users machine is diconnected from the internet, we'll turn the machine into a cell phone (somehow)...and oh yea, we forgot about what happens if there is no cell serivece.
This is just lame...why cant we just link to thinkgeek, at least their stuff is amusing.
Sigh, WTF is slashdot doing?

I personally think that people are too hard on him anyways. Its not like he is trying to perpetuate SCO's attack on the world, he was just trying to protect his company and his customers, thats decent to me.
Doesnt do anything, because it doesnt cache the pictures. And thats the largest problems of slashdoting. I think slashdot should try to temp mirror the pages for the first few hours it goes up, if its a small site.
Why does this article or similar articles keep showing up? Every year something like this surfaces, they have yet to say anythign new, and we all know.
Sigh, but alas this is how the meida keeps it self running, run old stories again.
If you want to know how to properly navigate the voice recognition systems, here is a quick tip. Just like the olden days when if you hit '0' or did not hit anything, it would transfer you to the 'operator'...there are by passes on the new voice recognition systems. Most systems you can simply says 'operator' once or twice and away you go. If that doesnt work, try other things similar to it, like 'help', etc. Then you can curse at it or speak gibberish.
Note: This works perfect with sprint pcs: Sprint- Thanks you for calling if you would like... Me- Operator Sprint- Let me get you an operator, but first I need some information.... Me- Operator Sprint- Please hold while I transfer you to an opertator.
Its not such a good idea. It gives an incentive for people to put up Free WiFi hotspots, cause they get services in return for free. And then alot of people will pay because there will be lots of hot spots. Its not a hard concept to grasp. The question is if a company out there can make money on it, if they can...then its set.
There was an article a bit back saying that IBM (or someone of the nature) finally got the courts to force SCO to show the code they are talking about. Namely show off the Linux and Unix code that is the same. That was suposed to be done before 30 days was up. What ever happened to that? Was the code ever released?
Ok, that entire idea of "slashstock" is just so hilariously funny I think it should be given a try. Take over yosemitie with nerds! (or something like that)
Admitedly that was hilarious. Maybe a/. comment was truly funny for once...or maybe I am just derlious. After all its after my bed time and I suffereing from a lack of oxygen (high altitudes and all)
I am really lookin into getting myself a mini-itx board for my file server. This would be really nice to have, a nice speedy transmeta chip running the show.
The links do work fine, you just cant click on them, I guess they didnt want to get slashdoted so they banned slashdot as a referer. Just copy and paste.
Not to be a smart @$$ but does your mini dv cam have usb/firewire hookups? If so why dont you use them? Much better quality too. Though the PS2 might be a problem unless you have a decent cam and some creative wireing.
If your DV has USB/Firewire and analog inputs (many do now adays) you can hook the DV up to the comp when you want DV stuff, and you can put the PS2 into the inputs! I know it sounds crazy, but I have done it on a few occasions.
