and that is the problem. I always cringe when I see people toss out IRAQ IRAQ IRAQ as if that explains the current state of NASA's budget.
Face it, NASA does not generate votes. The only science that generates votes is that which well funded special interest groups support. The US could spend ZERO on its military and the space budget would be still be shit.
If anything the real science people want is how to get something for nothing, if not that how to get more from someone else
This is what ticks me off the most about the car. I don't care about the grandiose claims. What I do care is that GM through its connections in the US Government taking money out of my pocket so someone else can buy this car.
They are transferring the efforts of my labor, my training, and such, to someone else because of what? Really? Where in the hell is the justification for this?
Can't wait for someone to declare its a right or for the public good. Whats next? Condemning older cars as urban blight and forcing people to buy what they don't need or want?
Government isn't doing anything but taking from others by force of law and distributing to those who would not have the courage to do so in person. There is nothing about this transfer that benefits the public good, unless your a rich corporation or a public official.
What we want to know is, what is the mileage when operating on the range extender?
So if you hop in your Volt and head to Grandma's house a few states over, what is the mileage per gallon?
While I like the concept of the Volt, paying $40k for a vehicle the size of a Cobalt/Focus doesn't appeal to me unless its off the grid mileage is better than average as well. I do not want a car just for commuting.
because the camaraderie of the new crew was leaps and bounds beyond any of the series that followed TOS. While it was not "Trek" for all people it was fun to watch the characters interact.
As for the rest, some must remain as is to maintain the status they had. Babylon 5 (is it really 15 years old?) was great for what it was when it was. While I would not mind seeing new stories based on that universe I don't want to see the old stories again. Part of its allure was the interaction of the characters in the show, G'Kar and Londo, Sheridan and Delenn (even Sinclair and Delenn) let alone Bester. I would love to see the Dilgar War and earth coming of age, that would be great.
1999/UFO. Both were good for their times, but science has come a bit further and more pressing concerns are at home. Unlike distant Sci-Fi they would be a little too close to our age for comfort.
Firefly? No. Leave it or bring it back with the SAME people. Rebooting it would be like, oh I don't know, somehow claiming the original was flawed because of the characters. It was very character driven. Probably why I liked it almost as much as B5 or the new Trek. The SciFi part doesn't have to be amazing if the characters truly are interesting/believable
I wonder how long before we get the next great "just the browser ma'am" again. Kind of like when we got Firefox because the last incarnation was a bloat factory. Occasionally we get new stripper models out there but none gain traction.
Hopefully it won't feel so bloated when they thread tabs properly, damn if some pages don't make me feel that Firefox locked up. There are still pages Safari or IE will display properly that Firefox won't.
As for it "becoming" a commercial product, I never thought it wasn't. Foundation is the modern sweet term for Corporation. It might have meant otherwise before but not anymore.
Still I won't give it up for anything else, but at times I do want to scream at them
Of course I doubt they would go with a shuttle picture with billions blowing out the exhaust as something to highlight.
I wonder how many years our exploration/exploitation of space has been on hold because of the costs of the shuttle program. Would we have people already on the moon? We made this grand celebration of getting into orbit in a fancy science fiction looking way and just stopped.
It was like, ain't this enough? Granted NASA's budget is a drop in the bucket (and no the Iraq war ain't denying NASA any money - it would have gone elsewhere through some other politician fantasy) of the overall federal government but still, how much of a detour was the shuttle?

I would like to find a copy for some of the strange contests they ran, one which was about plausible sounding explanation for common occurrences, which included why people yawn in reaction to others yawning is that they do so to balance the barometric pressure. That one and my favorite about a real perpetual motion machine, strapping buttered bread to the backs of cats in a ferris wheel arrangement where both sides naturally want to be bottom first.
Of course they had a few cars and trucks of tomorrow issues that I still see as amazing.
I am pretty sure the FCC is headed that way. Congress would just as likely modify their Congressional Incumbents Protection Act (McCain/Feingold) to keep any criticism of a sitting Congressman. Why not, its not like they care what you think until its time to vote.
It all comes down to arrogance not seen since the late 1700s in France. The "ruling" class while "elected" has no problem in engineering a system by which they cannot be criticized (see McCain/Feingold) but will change laws to prevent people from voting against them (redistricting - Voter Rights Act - not prosecuting thugs at election sites - philly).
Grayson is an embarrassment to his district, but like voters in Louisiana proved, money in the freezer does not mean your guilty, just stupid. Remember all Congressmen and bad except yours.
The discoveries showed how little of the world's plant species had been documented, the researchers said.
In other words, they are extrapolating, or in layman's terms pulling numbers of out their ass while capitalizing on the global warming scare which they still believe the public to have fully bought.
Second it is about "wild" plants, meaning not what you tend to find at your supermarket or local bistro.
Another of what can we do instead of what should we do development blunders? Heaven knows how many "two year" projects I have been on that are not scoped properly or worse, suffer feature creep from designers and managers who want to sound impressive. When a design document doubles in size by the middle of project it should be a hint.
Sounds like these guys didn't know when well enough was met
I'm pretty much convinced they delist more than the author suspects. Many court orders have gone out in cases where the resolution was sealed and I would expect those related to internet postings could be buried the same way. Of course nothing stops the listing of material faster than leaving it out for all to see and having aggrieved parties (direct or indirect) going after hosting sites if not the actual people who generated the offensive content. Still much of this has to do with what side of you political spectrum you are in.
As in I find it amusing authors examples of questionable photos/links about people associated with conservatives while using the most obnoxious example in regards to the current Administration. I am quite many can remember the all similarly racist and hate based pictures of Condoleeza Rice or Colin Powell. Yet where was the outrage? I guess its OK if one side improperly credited with doing the most for minorities in turn is most likely to turn a blind eye to those minorities if they leave the "plantation".
Nah, deification of elected officials is dangerous and now I bet any picture which distorts Obama or members of his families appearance is automatically sacrilegious.
about talking pompously talking to other professionals.
Throw in the requirements that the laptop is an iMac, aluminum models only, while displaying in full view your iPhone as well. If your a young college age woman your allowed to sit outside underneath the umbrella with a cigarette. Please not that similar aged men may not appear with a cigarette if they have Apple branded technology.
If I had a nickle for every time I see this stereo type near me I would be...
Someone did a very good job of marketing coffee shops to college students.
Throw in a good chance that if her id is revealed her husband may be able to divorce on grounds of infidelity. Realistically, for her to declare that she is "in closet" and that Netflix did something to jeopardize her status she is effectively stating she is or has committed adultery. Needless to say that would put her on weaker footing should a divorce case come along.
It was a stat and skill based game. You could be everything and be damn good at it. Essentially what happened in AC was the people mini-maxed their characters to an extreme because you simply had an unlimited amount of experience to be gained. That game was fun because it was about being under the dozens if not more mobs and having the ability to get out alive. Nothing really has compared to combat AC style. Let alone PvP. Hands down the best PvP of any MMORPG. You can dodge spells in AC!!! See the giant snowball coming at you, just side step.
Still it lead to what one should have expected. If you can do about everything you really don't need anyone else. Yeah, specialized tanks were able soak up damage better than some mages but like UO, tank mages existed and they could withstand quite a bit too.
Of course with no class based system comes some fun when you allow stats/skills to reach silly numbers, like run speeds that would make even the fastest drake in WOW look like a slouch
Sounds like a typical college twit with a chip on their shoulder who saw nothing wrong with purposely baiting authorities. We only have her side so of course she wants to come off as clean and pristine, yet the items and such on her point to either someone incredibly stupid or someone intentionally trying to cause a scene.
The problem is, you don't cause scenes where people put their lives on the line every day. I don't care what stupid tripe you think you know or learned at home. The real world is a whole different place and it don't care what you think. In some areas of the world the last thing you want to do is bring notice to yourself. Check points are the last place in the world I would want to screw up.
I cannot wait for the leaks, figure we can have yet another year of "see, it was Bush's fault and here is the email to prove it, not that we leaked it"
Considering that every administration has problem with records perhaps it needs to be outsourced.
I am on my second iMac now, since Apple finally made one I wanted to upgrade too. The first one convinced me that the extended warranty is required. My old white iMac got the black screen of death 29 months after it was made (I bought it used a little over six months old). When I purchased it the original owner had the three year extended warranty on it.
Approximate $1300 for the main board and $300 for the daughter card (7600gt). The bill didn't include the labor cost. The final total was zero because it was under warranty. If this had not been covered it would have been cheaper to buy a new one.
I look at the warranties this way, what is your impulse buying threshold and what is your "I can afford that" threshold. Very similar to how you buy insurance for home, auto, and such. What is the amount your willing to be out if case something goes wrong. For me that stops at $500 minus the cost of the extended warranty. So its a $700 item and the warranty is over $200 I won't get it.
If you finance it, insure it or get a warranty. Don't bother with extended warranties on cars and if you must, only from the manufacturer
one person's right to health care is not the same as another.
I prefer the right to access to health care, however the one item left out of most every discussion I see is the requirement to actually lead a healthy life. Sorry, but why should the majority of people pay for other people's health problems caused by known bad habits, like smoking, drinking, and over eating?
The real problem with health care is that too many people willingly take on a car payment and exorbitant cell plan yet are offended they have to pay to take care of themselves. Too many put more effort in taking care of their cars than their own health.
Once someone can define universal health care in appropriate terms instead of just being a buzz word maybe those of us who don't favor the idea will think twice. Until then, try spending some of your own money on your health and quit expecting me to cover it while you eat out.
(and yes I know there are hardship cases, but this isn't what the current debates are turning into)

the number of people who share account information in many guilds is very high. Sharing account information with internet friends is just stupid.
Throw in my favorite idiocy, people who use the same account information including password on fan or guild sites.
I wish my Credit Union had one of these Authenticators, as it is they have a pattern/challenge type arrangement which seems pretty good.

because child porn laws are already being considered with these new machines, in the UK I believe no one under 18 can be scanned with one.
So, lets just hand them our playbook again. Instead of looking for terrorist we are looking to naughty bits.
We are nearly suicidal in our attempts to not offend anyone. What will it take to realize that feelings heal over time but death does not?
I cut and pasted the top of the page here, go to the link to read it in all its glory.
