    Check out one of these, yes it's an Apple Cinema Display, but take a look at one, they are simply amazing, they are a piece of art, yes it requires a $50CND dongle to go from Mac-DVI for PC users, and I am a pc user, but they are so worth the money, they are great monitors.

    Yep, I build my own too but I've never been able to get flames on the side like the hotwheels computer, except for the time some guy named Tom took the heat sink off my Athlon.

    Can this thing be used as an external drive?

    Doesn't say.

    It's bundled with iTunes and RealJukebox.

    Reading the early comments and seeing everyone complaining about it being USB.

    Take a look at most "pee-cee"s today, how many have Firewire? Most people don't have Firewire, they do have usb though.

    So stop saying that everything needs to be firewire, yes it will take a while to fill a 20gig mp3 player with a usb connection, but how many times are you going to need to reload 20 gigs of music, if your like me you get a few cds a month and rip them at the same time, at that point I have between 2 and 4 hundred megs, and that doesn't take long to transfer with a usb connection when I only have to do it once or twice a month.

    And on a side note, does this thing act as a portable hard drive? I know some of the harddrive/mp3 players do and that would make it even more useful, with my 11 or 12 gigs of mp3 and a divx video or 6 in the rest of the space i'd be set, even my parents have usb on their pc.

    I recal having to format and reinstall Win2K Pro for a few clients of mine because of IIS installed by default and them not patching it against Code Red(II) and nimbda.

    IIS not being installed on XP Pro means that MS reallized how many clues (l)users they actually have and not including it with XP Home is just another marketing ploy to make you buy the more expencive XP Pro.

    We had some Hardware Problems, so the release of the patch will be later, but check out the current version it should work well.

    There will be an update to version 0.35 soon. It fixes the "Insert DVD" Error Message.

    I know it's been mentioned here before, but I thought I'd jump in...

    The Sharp Zaurus runs "Squeak", it's an open source programming language, it is a genuine, complete, compact, efficient Smalltalk-80 environment, you can read their licence here.

    Pac-Man-like nature? IANAL but I think I understand the basics of the GPL but wtf is the Pac-Man-like nature of it?

    So how long before Parker Bros, who made the game, the Atari people or Mark Lesser, one of the programmers, come forward and claim the copywrite on the game and force them to remove the rom image?

    Yes, I know this is just a prototype for the game, but it is still their(not sure who's) work and they hold the rights to it.

    Not like this hasn't popped up on slash a few times before, but why only phone, cat5 and fiber?

    What about running Svideo and RCA to everyroom or an extra drop of cat5 to run sound on?

    And as far as running the cat5 parallel to the phone, if your building the house why not set your cables into conduits, that way you can upgrade to whatever cabling you need in ten years.

    "low performance" it has a 206MHz processor and 64MB of memory, that's not low performance, that's a high end system from 5 years ago in the palm of your hand.

    "I don't see anyone using them for Quake or DOOM."
    id has ported Quake.

    Does anyone know where one would get the source or the general idea of what Magic Lantern is doing, if you could get your hands on this then write a virus it wouldn't be detected by Mcafee at least and that means that you have an effective counter Magic Lantern weapon(Mcafee would have to detect ML then, or "they" would have to update ML continously so that it was not detected.

    Your second suggestion is almost the exact reason that your first is a falacy.

    He put in a 400W power supply so that it would never be close to running at that wattage so that the cooling fans would almost never be running very fast, and thus result in a mcuh quieter system then a 200W power supply with the fans running at max 75% of the time.

    From the second link "A dual-layer rewritable optical-disk technology," and "disks that have a capacity of 50 Gbytes per side , which allows the recording of more than four hours of high-definition programs, two hours per side ." my emphasis.

    Read 50 gigs or watch 2 hours of a movie in HDTV then physically flip the disk unless the reader/writer has dual lasers.

    If you were working for a retail outlet you have your own support system in place.

    Dealers have a seprate support line and need to have a dealer ID for support there.

    Actually I work for Compaq....
    Currently as a first level tech support, moving into a junior network admin in a few months once I finish my programming course.
    But as far as bios passwords, techs at compaq are not allowed to tell you that you need to jump the cmos battery to remove it, we are required to tell you to take the system to an Authorized service center (ASC) and have it taken care of *At YOUR expence*, and you need your reciept for most reputable centers to clear a bios password for you, especially on a laptop.
    If you have a presario desktop I would suggest hitting whatever the prompt is for open case then 420, that directs you to Site 42/47 in Ottawa Canada, we are the only site with centralized resources (corp intranet, and net access) and we have the top first call resolution in North America, we have also be the top Compaq call center for 3 years.

    This article is about the RIAA backing off from that proposal.

    The people that the article is refering to are most Windows users.
    And working techsupport for one of the largest OEM computer makers around I deal with this type of people all day, everyday, and he does have a vaild point.
    When I try having a customer right click on anything 85% of the time they left click, then if they did right click every time I tell them to click they feel the need to ask "Right or left".

    These are the people that have 15-20+ icons running in the taskbar and don't know why the are running out of memory when their hard drive is half full.

    These are the people that don't reallize that if you don't type a password the first time you started the computer you wouldn't have the logon box poping up.

    These are the people who have yahoo!pager, msn messanger and ICQ constantly running and haven't got a clue why they have Connect to AOL poping up every 5 minutes even though they were writing a word doc.

    Try telling them that you don't have to use media player for your cds and dvds, you can hear their jaw drop over the phone, and change the screen saver or the background colors for them and you are a God.

    So yes, he does make a vaild point, as far as the Mac system being better or easier I couldn't say, I haven't used a Mac in years.

    Ok, but for me that includes Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park, Metallica, Korn, Limp Bizkit, not Charley Pride, Ann Murry, Sarah Mcloglin(sp?), The Dixie Chicks, but my ex loves J-Lo, K-Ci and Jo-Jo and Slipknot.
    Me thinks that wouldn't work out.

    It's also possible that some of these access points have been setup without the knowledge of the admins in the building.

    I have seen instances where a "rouge" group of developers found it more productive to work in the board room (it has a great whiteboard) and there were not enough jacks for there puters, their manager put in a request for a new hub, got approved and sent a developer out, he came back with an some wap gear, the admin nearly shot the manager when he found out.
