If it was travelling at.1c it wouldn't be haning around long. But I doubt we would see it coming. It would have to come form somewhere outside the solar system - theres nothing around here that could accelerate an object that size to that sort of speed (that we know of)
So different countries have different plugs. They also have different voltages. Don't you think its a good idea to prevent appliances designed for 110VAC to be plugged into 220-249V outlets?
There is geological evidence that the Mediterranean and Black Seas were once cut off from the rest of the worlds oceans in (relatively recent) times. Its possible that the Arctic ocean was also cut off during the ice age, but then it was more an ice shelf than an ocean/sea.Anyway in a million years we may have managed to melt all the (land supported) ice and most of africa would be underwater before the rift opens wide. On the other hand if we cause enough of a greenhouse effect, all the water could be boiled off, and the planet resembles venus.
I heard it was a bit further back than 5000 years ago, butit still gave rise to all of the Flood legends. In addition to the rise in water level, the new water was salty, so the fish that were in the lake and the plants would have died too. The (human) survivors of the even would have had to migrate quite a ways to find somewhere else to live, spreading the story with them.
(The story of Atlantis however probably was due to the Thera/Santorini eruption.
Put a spinning deck inside the spacecraft. Then the astronuats can run around the rim to get exercise . Oh and put a manual switch for the pod bay door on the outside of the ship in case the computer runs amok.
Because the Planck length is too small for the american media (and people) to imagine, it will never end up replacing the standard unit of length which is of course the football field.
I was born and raised not far from the international date line. During the summer, when we had daylight saving, we were actually 13 hours ahead of GMT.
I thought this was the 3rd H1N1 outbreak. There were others in 1957 and 1977. This is why older people are less affected, they already have some immunity.
By the time they get around to vaccinating people, the majority of the population would have been exposed to the disease.
If this glass is a problem for cell, GPS, WiFi and satellite radio signals, I would think that the cars fitted with it would also have antennas built into the roof that you can plug your devices into.
The amiga was still a good system in 1994, but unfortunately C= went bust. I owned amiga computers from 1986 til 2002 and the only reason I sold the last of them was I emigrated and couldn't bring all my stuff with me.
I agree - I havr no real need for a portabe stand alone e-reader. I read (novels) at home, since I don't get a(n official) break at work, and I either walk to/from work or someone gives me a ride (less than 5 minutes. (BTW I work night shift.
For those people that have long mass transit commutes, and hour lunches an e-reader might be more useful.
I would (and in fact do) spend $5-6 on an e-book in HTML of PDF, compared with $7.99 plus tax or shipping for the cheapest dead tree version.
I might buy e-books from amazon if they came up with a reader program that ran on my computer.
"A deck catapult is more of a linear accelerator. Not very much used now-"
How do you think the navy gets its planes airborne from carriers?
The price of gold isn't high enough to justify the cost of going to Mars and getting it (even if there were bars of it lying around on the surface.)

In the southern hemisphere there already Road Trains.

"The blue is from appraching the light too fast. You're aproximately going 20% the speed of light. SLOW DOWN"
If you're doing .2c then its going to take you months to slow down (at any acceleration the human body can take)

Don't weather ballons float around on high altitude winds?
Of course UFO's are often claimed to be weather baloons by the Govt. Is this a cover up?

You know the guy that actually split the atom (Ernest Rutherford) was from New Zealand, not australia.
So it would only be used if we were attacked by baby elephant - like aliens.

Do you think any airline would hire them after this?
Anyway I think the FAA (or whoever is responsible) would cancel thier pilots licence.
The second catapult was 'underground save for ejection and that just a hole in the ground ' (or something like that,

Maybe it depends on the orbital positions of both planets, there can be quite a difference in travel times.

Small quantities of DiHydrogen Monoxide are also beneficial to health.
Baen sells individual books for $5 to $6 each, when the cheapest paperbacks today are $7.99 plus tax.
