The kind of people who spend $600 for photoshop want quality. GIMP is Free Software[TM] and a great program, but it's not what professional people prefer. My brother is an industrial designer and has used grahics programs from the microcomputer era and he finds GIMP's UI to be really bad. People say it's just a matter of getting used to it... dunno
I've written firmware to control your AC by SMS messages. This was on 8bit chips with a GSM terminal connected through RS232 cable. There's no need for 32 bit chip to get this functionality. What is lacking is a way to cheaply connect wirelessly to a central computer. (You really don't want the ability to control them directly from remote locations;)
Doubt every applicances will have WiFi or ethernet in the near future, the components cost to much.
I hate these kinds of comments. Something bad happens and someone points at something slightly relevant but totally random thing that could with great effort be interpreted as... well... dunno what you'd call it.
Is the ad there because of it being related to an auto accident, or because it's about Free Software?
Many of us that choose the GPL without thinking do it because we want to go down that road. Being a lemmings isn't that bad as long as you get the right player.
And they *OVERPAY* them to not distribute or sometimes even take photos.
There was a story a while back about the US military forgetting to tell the satellite imaging companies not to take pictures of Afganistan. Because they were late they had to pay to get those pictures of the market.
This does suggest that you are wrong. AFAIK whenever the US military doesn't want any private companies looking, they just need to say so. Yeah... i guess you *could* call it an offer they can't refuse.
Exactly, i think most serious open source coders are well aware of what the license they choose means. I specifically choose GPL instead of LGPL for a library i'm writting because that's what i wanted.
I'm sorry if our licenses arn't corporate friendly.
I agree, this is a complete waste of taxpayers money. Why don't they use the money on something useful like a new jet or three for the president and a war or something.
You need to do this the right way. Suggestions like making FireFox look like IE are pointless. Just tell them that if they keep IE, you won't fix the machine. (Assuming you arn't using it too;)
From what i read back when they lost the case they need to comply immediately (unless EU decides to wait for the appeal to finish). If they win the appeal they get a refund with interest.
True, $16 million dollars is nothing. So instead of calling people (in this case Europa) cheapskates you should look for other motives. This isn't about money, but control. CENTR obviously doesn't like what ICANN has become, and uses it's most effective way of pressuring ICANN to change.

I guess you should read about it or ask someone to teach you.
Yeah, pushsing for backward compatibility to a 32 bit CPU that is compatible with a 16 bit CPU with lots of weird modes is great. Really, it is.
Before you start laughing at Hemos, shouldn't you consider the possibility that he is laughing at all the suckers reading /.?

Obviously you don't understand what the word "session" means in this context.
In the MS world, 180 days is a miracle. In the *nix world it's rutine.
I've been poking around slackware for 6 years, this is the first time i've heard of "apropos".
I'll keep it in mind.

How did a helmet help you there? If you hadn't been wearing a helmet you would have avoided the hospital bill and the recovery time.
Does that mean that 3 out of 10 nerds have never been exposed to the sun?
You're right. How could they possibly put a game that doesn't have a giantic budget nor the support of any hugh corporation... what is /. coming to...
All they got is a bunch of nerds hooked on it. And I think they forgot to implement H&S.

But what they cannot do is scan your passport while you are protesting against $EVIL_POWER.
Although if you have a cellphone...
They're propably going to implant it in a part of the body that you'd rather never lose.
For the same reason Iraqi oil is controlled by american companies.

Slackware has had ATC for years.
Good idea! I'll find the 42nd Mersenne Prime in no time with the processing power i got here.
ummm... let's see... *shakes the 8-ball* it says I should verify that 2^26.523.804-1 is the 42nd Mersenne Prime.
But those bullets weren't exactly smart...
