    2. never

The main reason I was so interested in firefox to begin with (and the same reason I use it today), was that it focused on trimming out the unnecessary stuff from Mozilla. This makes startup/respopnse time much quicker. It used to take +/- 15 seconds to start mozilla, as opposed to +/- 3 seconds for firefox. Granted, I always run on older hardware, but still.

The other contenders for a fast browser (konqueror and opera) don't render pages correctly a lot of the time. Konqueror's KDE daemons make it slower to start up. Opera's banners make it rather annoying to use.

That's the best advice right there. This includes receipts or little papers. I was the victim of identity theft auto theft. They broke into my truck that was 100% spotless cleaned (i had just cleaned it). When I came out to my truck the seats and floor were COVERED with junk: receipts, papers, small items, old cd's, a smart media card, etc.

I thought "these people are stupid, this media card's worth like $30", and didn't report it. I just thought they didn't find anything. Then I saw on the news that my part of town has had numerous break-ins like this. They pull out all the shit from underneat the seat, behind the seat, and in the glovebox looking for social security numbers, paycheck stubs, reciepts with credit cards, etc.

By the way, receipts with masked credit card numbers aren't worth a crap. Some businesses mask the last 4 digits, some mask the first 12, some mask the last 3, some include the expiration date. When you piece them all together you get free money.

Also, lock your doors. My brother tooks some courses on home security, and said that by far the number one method for breaking in is by walking right through an unlocked door.

That is to say that American news tends to focus on negative news and scare concerns (ie non-existant africanized killer bees), in the same way that US companies focus on scare concerns that do not exist, and Canadian news tends to focus on positive news the same way their businesses focus on positive aspects of privacy concerns (building a better rapport with their customers).

Now, total up the cost of a full size mainboard ($50) + cpu ($50) + graphics card with tvout ($50 and you get about the same price, with a little more performance. Seriously, there's no need for more than a 200mhz box if you're just setting up firewalling services for a box sitting on a cable/dsl line. Then throw FreeBSD on there and set up IPFW. That is of course if you want to only spend 30 minutes installing and configuring it.

And since you have that extra $450 left over, go ahead and buy 45(!!) of these 802.11b wireless cards from outpost.com for $10 a piece, to basically give out to customers!
