Perhaps it should say "Ending government paid for manned spaceflight for a decade".
It would be really interesting to see the conservative reaction to this. Will they oppose simply for the sake of opposition, or will they applaud it and call out for the free market to provide for manned space flight.
Personally, I think stopping goverment funded spaceflight is a bad idea, there is not enough economic benefit yet for corporations to go into space, beyond quick space tourism flights.
I'm sure that apple will stop putting this annoyware into their products if enough people get angry about it. I'm sure as hell not going to buy any product that contains this junk.
Yes, there are zero emissions from the tailpipe, but the electricity has to come from somewhere. Hydro, solar, wind are all very small percentages of the total electricity generating solutions. The majority of electricity comes from 'dirty' sources, such as coal, oil and nuclear. All thats happening is the carbon output of transportation is being shifted from the consumer to the manufacturer.
And even if we DO get a much larger percentage of clean energy sources, we still have to consider the massive costs that will be needed to upgrade the aging energy grid to be able to support the huge draw that electric cars will demand. Even a few million electric cars in the US will put a huge strain on the grid.
Finally, how good are the batteries for the enviornment? Can they be recycled cleanly? And how often do they need to be replaced? After a few months of steady use?
I actually know these two, used to play Call of Cthulhu with them.
Anyways, I was joking with another one of their friends about this sort of thing, and he was worried that someone may puke on Richard Garriot. I replied back if that if someone did, they should say that was for Ultima IX.
My appologies for not being clear, but the SA in question was not fired, he quit to go work for a dot com startup. The email he sent out was basically bragging about how great his new company was going to be, how we all sucked and were stupid, and he listed every slight and fault everyone on his team had. About two or three years later (2001 I think) is when I was on the interview team with another ex employee. He was not a bad SA, but he was not a fantastic one either.
So he burned his bridges and paid the price for it. Do I regret it? Not one bit.
Actually, it was two or three years after he left the company to go to a dot.com startup. His email on the way out was something along the lines of 'so long suckers, I'm going to get rich while you idiots work here, you all suck.." and insults to everyone he worked with. It was like he finally got to say what he had been dying to say for years.
Technically, he was competent, but not stellar. He was about average for the role he was applying for, but his past history was a mark against him. There were better candidates.
Not to mention possibly career ending. Someone about 10 years ago was leaving a company I worked at, and wrote a blistering goodbye email. A few years later at another company, a fellow ex employee of the first and I were on the interview team. And guess who walked in!
Needless to say, he got a very short interview and absolutely no consideration. When asked why, both myself and my coworker said 'Unprofessionalism'
Yeah, very true. A few years ago when i was in vegas they even sold the basic strat cards in the frigging gift shop, and as long as you held it in your hand and not have it on the table, they don't care.
In fact, I'm sure they must love people using the cards, since most people don't slavishly follow the basic strategy, and when you don't do that, you break whatever advantage it gives to you.
I'm sure the fact that this build of windows does not have tons of extra bells and whistles installed, thus leaving more system resources for doing benchmarking.
thank you for your ,02 cents.

For the top 1000, a million bucks is not a lot of money. Why risk alienating the population for what is to them a drop in the bucket?

What exactly has he done to deserve the prize? Would it not have been better to wait until he got done with his presidency first?
As someone said on TPM, this sounds more like a 'Congratulations for not picking McCain' award.
I guess that means I'm still going to need to worry about the Y2k38 problem.
" and for New Line to make other films based on Tolkien's work"
Oh dear God, NO!

Please? OK? One or two stories is acceptable, even if they are not funny. Multiple stories each year is just annoying.
So funny. Really? Ok, not really. :)
Really, is this the best they can do? Building of 1960's tech?
And this part got me too:
Trips to the moon are scheduled for 2020, while a journey to Mars is believed possible by the mid-2030s.
GUH, wtf happened to our ability to explore space, to do cool stuff, to take damn risks?

Nice.
I would think ISS would be 3rd, behind the moon and the Sun!

It smells like...hollow victory

Its bad science like this that gives various talking head pundits the ability to totally disregard and blast climate change as bogus fear mongering.
C'mon guys, you have to do better than that.

There was a bug in the way items were produced, making free items.
The economy reacted accordingly by decreasing the market cost for these items.
Items that need these free items were also accordingly cheaper.
When discovered, the costs of the free items and the items requiring them shot up due to market speculation and decreased supply.
The economy in general will have some bumps, but will eventually recover.
The perpetrators have been shot.
When i read this, I kept thinking of some Geico ad with a pile of money and two plastic eyes...
So I guess Sarah Palin is not the only thing from Alaska that emits a lot of gas and hot air.

You can safely skip every other one in the series.
