Here is an "open" IEEE wifi standard hidden behind a paywall not to mention the nasty patents attached to it. If they really care about openness, licence their existing standards under CC.
A sparse multiple system with planets orbiting at least two of the stars. That would make for some good scifi for it would allow practical interstellar travel between the planets.
The point of the habitable zone is not that it proves that life exists on the planetas (Mars and Venus are also in the zone). It's quite the opposite, if a planet isn't within the zone we can exclude the possibility of life. Still, it's pointless to check for that when we are talking about a gas giant.
Isolation is a good thing because you don't want to hit any nearby keys accidentally. Also, I can lay my fingers on the keys horizontally while my palm rests on the table instead of having to hover my hand above WASD. This way, I can use my middle finger to press up, down or both without having to move it. For extra functions, I can use num0 with my little finger, and rctrl, rshft, del, end and pgdwn are also within reach, but most of the time you only need two keys for jump and duck. Another problem with WASD is that those keys aren't aligned like the arrow keys are which makes them unnatural to use. Sure, I could move the keyboard and use WASD, I even do it for games that don't allow me to reconfigure the input, but why would having that extra option be a disadvantage?
Nobody forces you to use those interfaces, but for people new to technology it can help if they can relate certain functions to their real world analogues.
I don't really sleep on lectures, but in high school I snoozed a lot during classes. Strangely enough you can memorize stuff better if you are in a half asleep state.
As the RIAA members own most big radios this won't hurt them as it's like putting money from one pocket to another. But the move ensures that no independent radio can become viable. The RIAA is doing what they have always done, trying to keep their oligopoly at all costs.
Your money is in the safety of your digital pocket instead of in a bank, and you can transfer it anywhere in the world within a few minutes for a very low cost. The disadvantage is that it's a ponzi scheme.
They are important questions, but they aren't related to science. This bias strengthens the anti-science attitude. Science should focus on the pursuit of knowledge not on daily politics.
The attackers are most likely using other infested machines.
The easiest way to secure embedded content would be a sandbox tag that allows to limit what kind of content can be inside of it.
Agreed, but it's not like the other guys are following a peaceful way either.
You mean, like a ballistic missile? We already have those, and they cost an arm and a leg.

Not really, planets orbiting one member of a multiple-star system are fairly common.

WOW-player and computer-savvy are two different things.

uses the theory of evolution?
Exactly, a good IDE can do the same job without annoying the hell out of the coder.
For me, the ability to play FPSes using the arrow keys dwarves all other inconveniences.
Hydrogen bubbles in your veins can easily be deadly.

Yes, but only in one wavelength.

If you are being followed you want to be between as many witnesses as possible. The moment you are alone, they will get you.
Real alarms use infralasers.

Exactly, it's easy to provide better healthcare by throwing more money at it.
You want to know that? Now that's anti-science!
So are you saying that it's ok to punish people for toughcrime? The guy hasn't done anything wrong.
