I didn't say linux would completly fix everything.:) What I did mean was that linux would make the macs run faster, provided that this new port and other linux mac ports are good, fast, and up to date. If they are, I will bet that it would run much faster than they currently do with MacOS. As stated above, they are very secure and the admins make sure no one does anything, and I can verify this. So this would be the case in most issues, but not here. G3s and iMacs run less than their full potential.
I understand your point of view, but the macs at our school are secure as all heck. They have every single thing password protected and logged and monitored. The admin maintains them well, making sure nothing is wrong, and I can see that also. I have noticed this with every macintosh I come across, they don't perform to their maximum.
We have around 300 G3s and 4 iMacs at our school(the government gave the school discounts). We've had macs since the opening of the school years ago. Anyway, the performance of G3s and iMacs is terrible. Now, I may not be a big mac fan to begin with, but the performance of those computers is lacking. I think linux would run well on them, but it's amazing how slow stuff will run, when they claim there's a 300+ Mhz processor in the boxes. It's good to see that different versions of linux are being ported for macs, maybe apple will open it's eyes and adopt the open source theory. Wait, no they wont.:)
It's the whole idea of it, which benefits them in the long run. Think about it, linux was started as an open source project and to this very second, is and will remain open source. What has been accomplished because of it? Hrm, well, millions of dollars and huge companies, one just going public. Not bad for something that started off as some code that was freely available. Now i'm not saying that every single peice of software on this earth must be open source, even though it would be nice, but the majority should be. If you had a software company, would you pick having thousands of people all over the world help you develop your product, or just the few people you hired to sit in a room and try to make good software. I would opt out for number 1, but I'm not sure about you. All I'm trying to get across is not releasing the source to your software is dumb, as it does not help you at all. Look at Microsoft, sure, they have millions of users, but is the number going down rapidly? I believe so.
This happened before and this will happen again. Any really big TV show or movie always ends up getting pirated and then distributed over the internet. It should be assumed by now.:)
I am dissapointed at one section of that FAQ. The section where they talk about releasing the source code to the linux community. They talked about "giving back to the community", but they will not release the source code because of contracts with other companies. This is poor, and they should release the source code, so people can develop the distribution. They love the fact that debian has such a large developer base, but they won't get one by going this route. I think Corel should reconsider the plans to not release the source code to their upcoming linux distribution.
I don't know what we should call ourselves, but one thing that annoys the heck out of me is when people call me a "hacker" meaning the cracking of systems, just because they know I am involved with computers. It really is one of my pet peeves. I'll keep watching to see if there will be any results of this question.
Icons are a subsection of one of the many sections at themes.org. Currently http://themes.org/resources/ holds the collection of Icons available at themes.org. This section is being redone and will be presented in a very well-done manner in the near future.
I'm happy to see an article that finally details the true meaning of hacker. It bugs me so when parents and adults go on and on about "hacking" things.
I thought I heard that E was slowly going to become the default window manager for RedHat. I guess this isn't true now, but what happened? Or was this just a rumor I heard somewhere.
This is just about the first time that mozilla worked for me! I was suprised. Although it does run a bit slugish on my computer, it's usuable and displays webpages right. Although the one weird thing was when I went to slashdot and went to the preferences, it messed up all the boxes, but I fixed them.
Thus the day has come when I can finally find out why answering someone's question can make my comment a 0. Rob, also, maybe in the future, make it available to you to be able to see what moderator did what, and for what reason, so when someone complain's to you about their comment being decreased, you can check who did it, and yank moderator access if needed. *grin*. No really though, this is a great way to have some answers for those ever nagging questions.
Well, just got home from it, and all I can say is wow. Even though I am pleased with alot of movies, Star Wars is an excellent blend of older stuff and brand spanking new computer animation. Everything was so real, and precise. Maybe that's why I liked it, because of the animation and effects. Regardless, I would rate this movie very high, and I am waiting to see future episodes(2,3?).
I'm going to see Star Wars tonight. It looks good, but I've heard it isn't the best, like as said by Rob. So, let's hope the best and go into the movie with a good mind.
The best, and my favorite part of linux.com is the graphics. The graphics are all well-done and fit into each section perfectly. Among my favorites are the full picture of the baby-tux penguin, the press hat on the press page, and the good-looking 404 page. Never before have I been happier to get a 404 error, ok, maybe not, but that penguin I see enlights me.:)
Why is he so worried? Unless he is bad, and is doing bad stuff, why is he so paranoid about the domain names? Who would really take a website created by a 15 year old seriously.
I was wondering when we would see a linux-specific article on abcnews.com. All I really found when looking there were articles about "open source" and such. This article is good, with some errors. My question is, what is Miguel looking at in those pictures?:)
The main reason why I love google is because of speed. Not only is the server not-overloaded, but the results are very fast, and most of the time's it returns better results than say, yahoo. I think google will develop into a very positive, well-done search engine in the future, if it ever get's out of beta.:)
I never knew this stuff was going on with Ultima. Maybe I will have to go check it out after all. Although I don't think I will be shelling out big bucks for property or anything, after all, it's just virtual.:)
I had problems with Quicktime 4. I painfully decided to switch to windows to try and watch trailer one a while ago, and I had to download Quicktime 4, but it like opens and freezes. So that was enough of windows for a while. I found the.mpg on a website somewhere and linux can now happily play videos and saves me a reboot.:)

The poll is up to 69% for linux games. Let's all hope that they take the poll seriously and concentrate on expanding their efforts to linux.

Someone DOES need a new hobby, but that does require some talent.

As my favorite editor, I love and use vim, but I'm not on the staff. :) Vim is an excellent editor, something everyone should try.

Hehe, that's right. Silly me! :)
Ahh, I see. Figured it was something small like that. Now it's time to go figure out why I got a 0 for my comment. hrm.
