As far as 'rare' goes, I would imagine that X on a pdp11 would be 'impressive'. But that's only if you mean 'could we imagine', instead of 'could we do'.
To develop unix programs on windows, than to develop windows programs on unix. Based on the wich platform the developer is more likely to be running, of course. (all of my developer friends run windows)
My memory is dim; but didn't they used to have software that downloaded your mail or articles from whatever BBS you were reading and do teh same thing?
I'd imagine looking around the text utils section of simtel.net might be worthwhile...
Hasn't soft updates been proven "good enough" as far as data integrity goes, and slightly better performance-wise? If that's the case, shouldn't we (we=*bsd) be focusing on breaking new ground instead of trying to play catch-up with linux?
This is exactly the kind of hostile chest-thumping that Greg Lehey was warning about in this month's Daemon's Advocate. And we can see the extention of the behavior he was pointing out. Potentially worthwhile contributors have been chased off simply because they made some not-maliciously-intended mistakes in their beta releases.
If this kind of hostile enviroment continues; the "BSD is dying" trolls may just be proven right!
If the 9 states win, not only will I believe that Bill Gates is the Goatse man, but I'll know that he stretched himself so wide to make room for the monkeys to fly out. ^_^
Again, I have to ask...why the fuck would anyone bother with quake one when you can have the features and far better graphics of quake three?
To answer your question, yes I have played quake three...back in 96 when it came out. I moved on with my life somewhere around 98 (I believe when q2 came out, don't quote me, however)
Now it looks like it's time to install windows and morpheus and so some video hunting.:-/ Hope I don't get stuck w/ the cruddy euro version again. YUCK.:(

Not the company that oversees half-assed "privacy" organisations while promoting palladium (sp?). Surely you jest!
since 87% of all facts are made up on the spot!
GNUmeric, maybe?
Hell, even bc beats quickbooks, imho...
unless you're on windows, where I've always used microsoft money, personally.
I was just thinking it was pronounced "buzzwordCommerce" ;)
That's officially the first time I've seen that particular one, however. I wonder if it's a japanese only term?

but I can't say he's my favorite columnist. This interview shows why. *Yawn*

we see Quicken commercials for our Linux pc's?
;)
Then I'll KNOW it's time to switch over to gnu/hurd!
...that NetBSD hasn't been ported to the Xbox.
;)
Then we'd have the added bonus of it being a Microsoft-approved license.
Did I read that right? Only a 20g hard drive in this day and age when I can get an 80g one for under $200?
I guess at $399, I can spring the extra $200 for a >100g drive, but still....
..meanwhile, I'm downloading netbsd.
Given that this is only a (very) minor point release, I don't expect I'm missing too terribly much.
No, the real reason is that this article never made it to page one; so right next to no-one saw it.
IOW: Debian GNU/Linux
That the oldest video game system is no longer PONG? ;);)
(stands back and waits for people to point out that spacewars was developed in 1969 or something....)
^Btw, this is under win98 fwiw.
I was able to just fine. In fact I'm able to use the preferences just fine too.
:p
AND I re-installed over RC1, too.
The only problem I have is not being able to use the side pane; but I don't use that anyways so who cares.

My Post :p :p
Might not be first, but it's mine.

I don't understand why you don't just go buy an >1g computer and run quake from there.
Hell, you can even get a decent 500mhz box for not too much....
Running a beowulf cluster of these! It'd be almost as fast as my intel box! :)
Not until you mentioned it. :-/
:-/ :(

Hope I don't get stuck w/ the cruddy euro version again. YUCK.
