The DNC completely missed this point when they put Kerry up instead of someone like Clark. The hard core left will vote for whoever they put up against Bush, because they want him out of office more than anything. It is the middle ground they forgot (and need). It is too easy to characterize (and not without good reason) Kerry as a way-left, nutball liberal, which turns off moderates.
Actually, Clark was to the left of a great majority of the Primary candidates. All except for maybe Kusnich. Hell, even Michael Moore (voted most likely to be burned in effigy by republicans) said Clark was more liberal than Dean.
The casualty numbers are still FAR less than the number of people that would have died had saddam been left there.
At the risk of sounding callous, it wouldn't have been my friends, neighbours, or family members dying.
Oh, and the media who "has to let everyone know" when someone gets hurt? What, as opposed to the administration who arrests people who take pictures of our honoured dead's coffins? Why is this administration so adamantly burying its head in the sand?
We did this for a research project I was on. We picked up some spare polystyrene wall insulation from a local construction sote, and wired some steel guitar wire with a variable voltage source and some 2x4s to make a nice armature. We then cut out rings to use as inserts in our helium dilution refrigerator to lower the volume of expensive liquid helium needed.
Fun, but cutting styrofoam with hot wire is a bit stinky.:P
I've been tweaking the crap out of my bicycle. It's a dual suspension bike, but I wanted a rack on the back to put my bag on.
So, after one afternoon in the machine-shop and a pile of scrap aluminium and spare screws, I managed to get a rack intended for a non-rear suspension bike over my rear wheel in an amazingly sturdy and resilient manner. I even managed to attach extra hardpoints for my rear reflector and light and an under-the-seat attachment for my lock to keep it out of the way while I pedal.
Yes, if by some freakish twist of fate, any guy here on/. actually gets a girlfriend, it is their boyfriendly duty to do this with their GF.
(I am operating under the assumption that nerds have better spacial skills than non-nerds, not that boys are better at parallel parking than girls. I AM assuming that any girl on/. should have little problem getting a BF [what with them being a female geek and all].)
I'm not in the Sierra Club, but I am a scientist and a bit of an environmentalist.
Wars have all sort of environmental effects. Apart from Saddam's possible lighting of oil wells on fire, or the spilling of millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf, there is also much heavy metal contamination in the theatre of operations from depleted uranium and lead and lots of particulates greenhouse gasses and smog from all the planes and vehicles used.

I've got a trackball built by SAIC. It's lasted me for, oh, 5 years? And it still shows NO signs of anything approaching failure. I got it off ebay, the seller claimed it was designed for submarines and I wouldn't be surprised. It's ugly as hell and about 1/3 the size of a 104-key keyboard but with keyboard key buttons instead of lame ass normal microswitch type buttons. I have yet to figure out how to take the ball out to clean it, but then again, it has never been necessary to do so.
I have the distinct impression that this thing could take a.45 round right through the middle and keep on working. Pair this up with one of those old IBM "tank" PS/2 keyboards and NOTHING will ever stop you from inputting into your computer.
teh XBOX settlement will be XBOX HUEG!!!LOLBBBQ! :P
Ok, so that wasn't one word, but it should be, "OMFGIBMe-serverbladecenter!!!~1~." They are sweet seriously.
Bah! Back in my day we used ARCNET, Twinax, PLIP, or if we were really lucky, SLIP, and WE LIKED IT!!!

"Iraq has Weapons of Mass Destruction."
Does anyone want to set up a .torrent file?
Actually, the E field drops as 1/r^2 from a point charge, the power, which is proportional to E^2 drops off as 1/r^4.
Fuck them right in the ear. >:-o
Seriously, they are worse than MS. >:p

Enterprise means you use a RADIUS server for authentication and WPA key distribution. PSK is Permanent? Shared Key.
Those who can program, do. ... post on Slashdot. :P
Those who can't
(Yes I am aware of the irony in posting this, but I never said I was a good programmer.)

People are forgetting the most important things:
"Hot GRiTs down SADDAMS PANTS!"
"Can you Imagine a Beowulf Cluster of Saddams?"
"In soviet Russia, Saddam captured YOU!"
Paypal issues a DEBIT CARD and they are _STILL_ not considered a BANK?!?!?! WTF?!?!?!?!?!?
I've got an abacus. From Ancient China.
Ok, maybe not that last part.

But then it ruins the the day again when you start waving it around floppy disks or if you leave it near a CRT and you screw up the tube's focus.
Make that three! When I was a kid, I always turned off the TV before the end of the credits roll just so I didn't get nightmares.
Pi redefined as 3,
1 redefined as 0,
and
10 redefined as 27.
Sigh....
But remember, for Steve, design IS idea.
God, I love that line. :-)
