    no i am not say that you should take away freedom but that incorporation wayland into the Linux Sandard Base is not a good idea because there is a much more mature and full featured OS independent standard graphics server in place already, X.org. Sure through it in the repo but don't make it part of the LSB, putting it in there would be folly because it is not yet stable is poorly documented and has a long way to go before it is capable of replacing X. As it is now if people would simply put their effort into fixing X's problems and updating the code to take advantage new hardware advances we would be much better off.

    Adding Wayland to the Linux standard base would be a bad idea as many if not most Gnu Linux installs are headless and don't need a graphics stack or if they do would need the networking advantages of xorg

    Or just install x.org or wayland from the repository while your at it throw another DE like cinnimon kde or xfce and while you are at
    wipe out unity problem solved

    they don't have serial numbers because they are themselves nothing more than a number. as such they don't need globally unique identifier as they are already all unique numbers

    Or while we are at it build in some tech, Hey they are replacing the skull after all why not put in a few things that may or may not come in handy later. For example cochlear implant with blue-tooth receiver when the person get older they will not need a operation to help their hearing and could make cell calls sans the annoying earbug in the meantime. they could also through in a few eeg sensors like the ones in the emotiv epoc headset only emebed in the new skull so you could mind control computers with the right software and training. they could also you could do all sorts of stuff with a manufactured head.

    hopefully it wouldn't be as delayed (the android port is still in dev despite originally having been planed to release it at the same time as Windows OSX and IOS) or have as many issues as BG enahanced eddition has had (like discovering that they had lost some source code and all of the original art)

    More importantly i wish the would kill the Downloadable content /micro-transaction ( bgee new npc are purcaseable in game content now) crap and just release it as a expansion like in the olden days.

    they will probably still fight on the issue. What happened here is the licences the technology as a stopgap measure to buy time while they fight the good fight as it were. It is still in Googles best interest to fight against software patents and copyright reform. While some will say that Google does not really support those and use their not publish their site ranking algorithm as a example I would classafy that as a trade secret rather than as a copyright or patant issue.

    Yes we do, and have always done so, remember the civil war and General Sherman's march through the south burning everything in his path towns and farms included? Or privateers we commissioned against the English in the revolutionary war (yes they had them to but still). Or the killing of the American Bison to starve out the indigenous population. Its only been the last couple decades that we decided that we needed to play nice with others.

    most older people are scared spit-less by going into "my computer" or the control panel let alone cmd.exe so teaching her to run clonezilla a bootable textmode backuputility would be far and beyond you average cat video watcher.

    Until you can build a chip that can emulate x86 and support a different architecture and do so more cost effectively than just an x86 chip x86 will live. You can't kill it, Intel can't kill it, AMD can't kill it, Microsoft can't kill it and you sure as hell can't nuke it from orbit. It's embedded in billions of computers and software programs worldwide, and that is a zombie army that you just can't fight.

    actually nuking it from orbit is the only way to kill it a good emp pulse from high orbit would take out a lot of the install base.

    what i don't get is why they didn't just throw a couple of x86_64 cores on the same chip as their say itanium prossesors for their workstation and servers possessors and a atom based core along with a ARM chip (they own a ARM license as i recall) for phones and tablets. they would then have a leg up in both markets because they could still use legacy code. best of both worlds.

    you could compile the source yourself and compare the binaries i would be more concerned about hardware based back doors when the os and applications are open source

    I like where you're going, but can't hop on that bus.

    Learning how to use a wordprocessor. Learning how to make professional looking documents that communicate well to people is a valuable skill. I'm not a fan of Word, but whether it's Word or Libre Office, 90% of the kids will directly benefit from being able to compose their thoughts on the computer.

    I love programming, but the percentage of people that would have their lives improved in some significant way by a 9th grade course in Scheme seems unlikely to be 90%, where for Libre Office that number seems conservative.

    so teach them LaTeX then?

    they can do it the same way you can multilicense code the original bits are open source and stay that way they just sold the copyright so if lg chooses new versions are under whatever terms they like unless it is from the older opensource version.

    I'm filled with an all consuming hate for some reason. Oh yes. I know why. It's like trying to copyright the idea of a recipe for chocolate cake instead of the particular recipe you devised. These companies deserve to be dissolved. Not even kidding.

    Recipes don't qualify for copyright protection in the US. The prose you write down at the bottom, in some cases, may, but in general they don't. They're a list of instructions and therefor not considered creative in nature.

    WAIT...you mean a list of human-readable instructions cannot be copyrighted, but machine-readable ones can?

    Hmn... So would a program written in a scripting language like bash or python be copyright-able as they are essentially just a list of human readable instructions? What about source code as it is a list of human readable instructions? if so then would all source code be public domain but binaries be protected? then what if two people were to compile the code with the same options on the same compiler resulting in two identical binaries which would hold the copyright? this is why we need to fix copyright on software.

    i agree a dog is a good purchase because if they are stealing you electronics you dvr security camera recording equipment is more than fair game for,it would fetch a good price at the nearest shady pawn broker and will remove incriminating evidence from the crime scene. If you are comfortable with owning and using guns on intruders i would add shotgun and bird shot shells so that it will be stopped by the wall but still mess up the thief. If you need more security a hand gun possibly and a concealed carry permit if available in your location. If you are uncomfortable with guns don't plan on confronting the thieves when they brake in again while you are at home, as they may well have guns and a baseball bat vs thief with firearm will not turn out well.
