    - If you don't pay them, your state can send you nasty grams in the mail saying "We see you have filed zero dollars in use taxes, please pay them." These notices are fairly common. IOW, the state tax departments are saying "Look, we aren't stupid, you're buying stuff on line, pay your tax". Now who here wants to keep records of the crap they buy JUST so you can pay use tax at the end of the year?
    - With a mandated sales tax, it means YOU don't have to keep records for paying end-of-year taxes. They just add it on to your purchase like any other state(if your state has a sales tax). I don't know about you but I'd much rather pay the friggin tax up front then worry about the stupid EOY paperwork.

One thing to make life easier for consumers AND businesses: only allow one tax rate per state. example: Wisconsin has a moronic tax system where every county can charge differing rates something up to like 1/2% on top of whatever the state charges. Some counties are 5%, some are 5.5%, or like 5.25%. So to make it easier on on-line retailers, just legislate single tax rates per state for those that have a sales tax. I ran into a few snags but Intel's OSS paid resource was a champ. I was provided a 'special' version of the drivers and then was able to get back into high gear. I remember one meeting with the Intel Sales reps about how excited they were about trying to sell a government agency T1 routers. Their router's only supported RIP. This was eight years ago. I just laughed. At the time 3com, Cisco, and Nortel all supported RIP V1/V2, OSPF, and BGP. Their implementation of RIP stunk. These jokers couldn't get in if they had to.

Open-source really needs to focus on what can be seen as key business objectives(stability and operational cost). The old days of 'the one guy, jack of all trades' is harder to find these days because businesses don't want that. They want an measurable and replaceable IT structure. Those managers and engineers who cannot help provide that will find themselves without jobs.

Process is taking us back to the Mainframes(for good reason too). ITIL was designed around mainframes. Mainframes were centrally controlled and help meet business objectives. That is a fact of life AND it is worse and will always be worse for companies like Blizzard. Load testing companies like Mercury have taken YEARS to develop systems that can reasonably simulate web load. Now imagine having to develop some way to reasonably simulate hundreds of THOUSANDS of users running a THICK client like WOW. Some using modems, some DSL, and some on college campuses. Some sitting there, fishing, fighting, chatting, etc... That my friend is a BITCH to simulate, thus the real world is the only way. I do feel for Blizzard. The customers who can't understand scaling/simulating that kind of traffic has lost site of the truly monumental task they have at hand.

My advice is this, get pissed if lasts more than a week. Else give 'em slack. As a way to compare, MOST large websites(like e-com) suffer on searches. Searches to 'full table scans' of product, product text, inventory etc... Imagine all the other dynamics WoW has vs your frigging browser.
