  2. Please retire and let someone else do it on Retired Mainframe Pros Lured Back Into Workforce · · Score: 1

Actually it is a problem that we can't get and keep the boomers retired. We will be the squeezed generation because they will hang on until they die and by then the younger ones will be kicking us out. No generational mindsets can change until people leave the workforce.

  6. Not a tax loss on Swedish Tax Office Targets Webcam Strippers · · Score: 1

This isn't a tax loss it's a tax opportunity loss. Just like lost sales due to "piracy" aren't lost sales they are lost sales opportunity. I hate it when people calculate these things like that. Just because someone pirated something does not mean they would have bought it. Thus it is not a lost sale and should not be counted as such. It drives the wrong behaviors and perspective.

  9. Re:Do the police... on Police Secretly Planting GPS Devices On Cars · · Score: 1

Except one you may notice them and also requires more manual work. Automating this type of thing and doing so without your knowledge is just as bad as having a device that tracks when you break any traffic laws and automatically gives you a ticket. The purpose there is of course revenue generation not law enforcement.

Let them require skill and police work instead of the equiv of breaking into your car and changing it without your permission.

While the idea is interesting my thought is "why, while we still have the real thing." (geek out) This could be more interesting for "farming" in harsh environments or deep space missions. (/geek out)

I'm all for giving the farm animals better conditions like room to move around, etc where appropriate, but when it's time to slit throat/smack in head with pneumatic hammer or whatever the ideal way to slaughter them is well, then it's dinner time. I don't see a need to stop eating animals so they can live out long lives in the wild (which as another author said domesticated animals won't be able to survive). Animals eat animals, we eat those animals, it is called a food chain.

  13. The answer is this... on Strict Order Boarding Would Get Planes in the Sky Faster · · Score: 4, Insightful

What would be faster is if everyone checked their $#@$@# luggage. People hauling their pull along bags down the aisle and then looking for overhead room and hoisting them up is a huge delay. Make them check them all and just bring a backpack or laptop bag on board, plus security checkpoints would go faster with less stuff to scan.

You've hit the nail right on the head. This BREAKS proper DNS workings and in my case causes me lots of headaches with a split tunnel VPN that depends on a DNE result to know if it should try the DNS servers for the VPN connection. If they really want to do this then build it into the web browsers and let it be an option. Don't try to force it in some attempt to be "Friendly" that is also an attempt for web ads.

  16. What an idiot reviewer... on How Not to Build a Cellphone · · Score: 2, Interesting

I have an iPhone, I also have a windows mobile 6 smartphone. I use one as a wifi ipod and the other as my communications tool. Why? Cause the iphone doesn't sync up with my corporate exchange server and push email to me from it. It's just a tool and as much as I love my iphone I have to use the other to get the functionality of the tool I need. For what its worth I think WM6 is pretty decent and I can work without a laptop and have access to my corporate address list, email, contacts, office documents anywhere I've got reception. not bad.

  18. There are some excellent uses on Corporate IT Hanging Up on Apple's iPhone · · Score: 1

One team at my company is looking at iphones for distribution of training videos to on-site and field technicians because over an ipod based solution they also have the google maps, better web browsing and actual phone all in the one device. Yes many other pda phones can easily handle podcast aggregation, but Apple does a darn good job and the device should have excellent video playback.

The big holdup for a lot of people will be a lack of direct exchange integration. I'm not a blackbery fan at all, but I do like Windows Mobile and exchange push. I would not be surprised at all to see apple licensing from MS and implementing OTA exchange sync in the future.

  19. Typical on Manhunt 2 Banned In Britain · · Score: 1

It makes me sad that this kind of thing (lets have society police the industry versus parents being responsible) keeps happening. Parents if you don't want your kids playing this then don't let them buy it. Leave the rest of us alone from your moral judgement. Get back to putting up limitless video monitoring cameras and automatic ticketing citation machines.

If some disturbed person blames a video game for inspiring their actions they are just looking for a scape goat and not taking responsibility for their own actions.

While it is funny to think of someone who doesn't know what a web site is, in this case he is a better judge than one who would pretend, make assumptions and possibly make wrong decisions based on that knowledge.
