I have received five spam email in the last five years. I don't run any spam filters, so I am assuming that it has been the ISPs and/or my email providers that have been filtering.
During Jerry Brown's first term as California's governor, his lieutenant governor, Mike Curb, would sign bills in his absence. Most memorable was the fact that the republican lieutenant governor would sign bills that the democratic governor would have never signed.
The most annoying thing about Ubuntu is how they are making it harder and harder to customize it to how we like it. Things like the non-intuitive, over complicated grub2 with it's limited options, and the limited customablity of the new gdm . It appears that Canonical wants to control user experience like Jobs.
Just run your TV sound out through a volume limiter. Turn the TV volume up to a higher level that you are comfortable with during regular programing, Then turn the volume limiter to a comfortable level. Commercials won't be able to go above that volume.
This sounds like a plug device with a built in hard drive. The data is stored on your storage media and only the address of the device is out there in the cloud. No one has access to the data unless the know the address.
The first thing I do in this wide screen world is move both panels to the left of my screen. Then I get rid of as many toolbars as I can, usually leaving only the file menu and maybe a navigation toolbar.
I'm not a fan of scrolling. I'd rather view it a screen at a time, like flipping a page of a book, by hitting the PgDn key.
Ubuntu's trend seems to be limiting the users ability to modify ubuntu to our preferences. In 10.04 they have remove the tools to modify the login. They kept the tools for managing Palm Pilots, but eliminated the kernel modules that allow any connection.
I agree. Anti-Virus Programs are not needed and slows down computers. I had a Win2K SP4 machine, that I used as an answering manchine, online 24 hours a day for five years. I used the precautions listed in Lendrick's post, with the addition of putting a router with a firewall between the computer and the cable modem. Although I don't use it for an answering machine now, I still use it regularly. It still is a clean machine.
Of course most of my online computing is done on linux machines, where I don't have to be near as careful.
In the 1930s Hitler actually sued a US senator (Alan Cranston) for copyright infringement, for distributing copies of "Mein Kampf" he had printed, to warn the US about Hitler's intentions. Hitler won that one.
Apple's strict control is what makes so user friendly. Forcing developers to work with in strict guide lines keeps the quality of the software up there, but limits the amount of software available. Apple's control extends to the hardware. Even their BIOS is proprietary. By controlling the hardware everything works. Microsoft can only dream of having this kind of control over their product. Opening Apple's products will only degrade them.
I would like to say we already own the Moon. If you Earthlings think you can push us Lunatics around like the Europeans did to the Earth's Western Hemisphere you are crazy. We are currently calculating the cost of cleaning up the space junk Earthlings have left on our Moon and will be sending out a bill shortly.
God created it. Science describes what God created. Science is still coming up with new descriptions. If on the first day, Adam decided to core a tree to look the tree rings, those tree rings would still have represented a year of growth for each ring. Same principle with plate tectonics. God created it that way. Science is describing his creation. Over the years Science has changed it's description of God's creation. Once Science thought matter was made of particles, then not, now particle again. I'm still not sure whether God made light from particle or waves. But I do know that Science will come up with new descriptions.
y first computer was an Osbourne 1. It had a 5 inch screen. 57 columns that would scroll to 80 columns. Kind of a pain. My next computer was an IBM Transportable. It had a 9 inch screen. It was very usable. That's as small as I would want to use.
"The Gossamer Condor was a human-powered aircraft built by Dr Paul B. MacCready. The aircraft, piloted by amateur cyclist and hang-glider pilot Bryan Allen, won the first Kremer prize on August 23, 1977 by completing a figure '8' course specified by the Royal Aeronautical Society. It was the first human powered aircraft capable of more than short uncontrolled hops."
If we had waited for a space station to land on the moon, we'd still be waiting. We walked on the moon before the first human powered flight. I say walk and crawl at the same time. We can drag a space station over there after they are perfected here.

One of the best things about the Osborne was the User Groups. The enthusiasm was amazing. I haven't seen anything close since.
Just sell the devices and give away an OS (Android) that makes the device function.
Be sure to patent this process.
Wouldn't be cheaper to install the tubes above ground?
I think Open Source Office Suite, or OSOS would be the best name and descriptor. Or perhaps just Open Source Office.

If Dr Evil got control of a satellite with a "big frick'n laser"...

When you are at the North Pole, no matter what direction you go, you are heading South.
Since Mozilla removed the session cookie option, I'm notsure I trust Mozilla.

The BIOS was proprietary before their switch to the x89 chip. That is how they shut down competing hardware manufacturers.

Why didn't the space shuttle take care of this on the way back down?

Shouldn't the line, "Ridley Scott's dark vision...." read "Ridley Scott's version of Phillip K. Dick's dark vision....".

Moon walk - 1969
First controlled human powered flight - 1977
