    I put up with online ads as long as they follow these rules:

    --No flash. This is because flash ads are usually really sparkly and annoying as hell. Some advertisers have also started putting text ads in flash because it allows them to spawn popups, bypassing blockers.
    --No cookies. If your ad agency thinks they need to track me, both your cookies and images will be blocked.

    Yeah, I was wondering about this too. Apple beating projections for the post-christmas quarter would seem to be a sign that they're doing pretty well right now...

    Wait, you mean BOTH, right? Microsoft is still trying to horn in on the console business, although I'd say they did a fair job for a first console (losing money on hardware and huge advertising budgets don't hurt, either).

    It's because of the US idiocy about corporate profits. If companies would stop focusing on quarterly earnings and bullshit like selling $ARBITRARY_NUMBER of $PRODUCT, maybe, um, I dunno where I'm going with this, but it's definitely an annoying thing about investing and business here.

    The XP default scheme, though quite bold, is not pastel. (It's more like Fisher Price. :P)

    I remember reading on a helldesk board where some guy didn't know what version of Windows he was running, so he just said "the one that looks like Legos".

    Xbox LAN parties are more popular than for other consoles (at least where I live)

    This is a given. The XBOX is the only current-gen console that has/had a (standard) networking port since day 1. (Yes, I know some PS2 games used Firewire for networking, and yes, I know they now ship with ethernet)

    What makes this scary is that content companies are increasingly pushing "all-in-one" ISP/cable type deals. When your internet service comes from AOL/Time/Warner or Comcast, it's only a matter of time before the content end of their conglomerate dictates policy for the "services" end.

    Yeah, Intel paid very heavily for backwards-compatability that nobody really cares about anymore. x86 should've been mass-genocided a LONG time ago.

    Nah, just think about what Automator really is. It's shell-style pipes and scripting in a graphical environment. I'm hoping that for the PHB-types who actually have a little drive to learn new things (yeah, I know, oxymoron, but anyway) can either whip up a little script to do whatever (or maybe have the IT guy do it so he doesn't have to walk them through it twice a week).

    WTF? Not everyone in Minneapolis has internet access that they pay for. There are quite a few low-income and recent immigrants that I know who don't exactly have internet access at home/that they pay for

    Intel's brains are divided up among way too many incompatible irrelevent architectures.

    Just to get it out of the way, I'm neither an AMD or Intel troll. So here goes...

    Intel can afford to divide its brains up more than AMD because it is such a huge company, much bigger than AMD. And they aren't supporting that many architectures. They have IA-64 (itanium), NetBurst (P4), and the Pentium Pro (Pentium Pro thru P3, and the P-M). I think they are going to start phasing out Netburst (and maybe itanium), so they would be back to one main architecture.

    That would be ... awesome. PvP arenas and huge online tourneys to get cool weapons, and an evolving game that adds new dimensions to your strategy as you progress would be so cool in an MMO with a fighting engine. Specialization could be very cool too...

    With the new laws, no searches or seizures are unreasonable.

    That's for the judicial system to decide. (not that I'm confident about it)
