What do you mean? Following the dot-bomb, he did find something he enjoyed.
Oh, you mean coding. Well, I'm sure he enjoyed coding. Probably did it as a hobby. But after some years of writing someone else's software, to spec that you had nothing to do with, and having that code be forgotten about or replaced with newer code, he probably started wondering why bother going on with it. You may be getting paid well for it, but if you don't have time or opportunity to spend the money, it loses its value.
I should also add that we're all different. We're passionate about different things. So you shouldn't pity someone who doesn't enjoy what you do. You should be happy for them that they found something that makes them truly happy.
I am a sysadmin currently, and am not very fulfilled by the job, even though I enjoy futzin' around with computers, software, the internet, etc. The lack of fulfillment is causing me great distress, and the anxiety and panic have very real and physical affects on my body. But I'm still trying to figure things out, and hope to reach the grandparent poster's position sometime soon.
Wait... so you're saying that there are sites on the internet that do not fit vertically on a display? Damn! No wonder I had that funny feeling that I was only getting a part of the story when reading online articles. Thanks for the tip!
The printing division is much more profitable for HP than the personal computer business, so I doubt they'll be meddling with the printer people too much. But obviously, cuts and restructuring will hit all departments.

How about downloading a bunch of news stories int oit, like your own personal newspaper, without the need to print each one on a piece of paper that will only be thrown away. You can use a PDA but it takes up space (they could probably make this new "paper" smaller and more portable), has a small, low res screen, etc.
Personally, I've been waiting for something like this for a long while.
Actually, the original poster might be correct in his usage of "they're," as in
"I don't think I would consider they are numbers worth anything"
As in
"These numbers -- I wouldn't think that they are worth anything."
(I realize that the sentence I made up might not be gramatically correct, but it is written so as to provide an example and explanation of my reasoning.;)
You'll have to declare the winnings with the IRC, as will Apple, who will value them at retail. You probably won't be able to get retail, so you'll get taxed on nonexistant income.
Of course you could submit the actual proceeds from the ebay sales to the IRS, and could make up the difference on shipping, but it just seems like a lot of work for a few extra bucks.
An elephant-sized coyote would not need a fully encompassing tank to provide it with life sustinance, like oxygen, and it does not need that tank to be on a specially constructed truck for transportation.
If you're in some remote village, you do not have access to equipment like this. What are you going to do, keep it in a net underwater until you call around dozens of... who would you even call in Thailand to take this beast away to a zoo, which they'd first have to make an agreement with.
These fisherment are out there to make a living. To us westerners this is probably a cool story, something to say "wow at, then forget and move on. To these guys, its 10 minutes of fame and probably a nice chunk of change.
But with an established series (like Family Guy, or Seinfeld) a network can sell it to syndication as well as on DVD, so that every time an episode of Seinfeld runs on UPN9 at noon, the creators get royalties.
Right. If Apple just made the announcement, what are the chances that Intel already made a special version of their chip for Apple alone? Probably none. They were probably running on a stock Intel rig, which is proof that Apple has a build of Tiger that would run on any Intel white box.
We're this close from running it on our Intel laptops and desktops.
Apple will surely restrict OSX to special Intel chips, but all this moves them very close to running it on any chip.
Anyone wan to venture some names the media will come up for people who use their iPods as the audio input to broadcast their MP3s?
RoadPodCasting?
PodRoadCasting?
iPodRoasting?
I'm sick as hell of the dopey monikers the come up with, which includes podcasting, and blogging. Has the whole country suddenly gone back to second grade?
Very true about Thief. It no longer mattered what sort of surface ou were walking on. You could be briskly walking upright on brook, and as long as you were in a shadow, a nearby guard would not hear you.
In Thief 2 you actually needed to slowly creep forward to mitigate the impact of your shoes against stone, which reverberated through a room. Often you took it one stap at a time, literally. In Thief 3, you can move around as if you were playing Quake 2.
I never got beyond the second mission. Right now I'm going back to plaing T2X: Shadows of the Metal Age, an expansion for Thief 2.
And how did the inhabitants of inland Africa survive for the past centuries without special pipelines for water? I am thinking that the current problem the pipe lines try to address is caused by other, root factors.

In NYC, following the 20 minutes of Football, there will be an hour or "Fox 5 News At 10", and the actual Futurama movie will only play at 11PM.
Just wait til they start inundating us with "vidcasting"

Well, if they use the ~$400 on a Mac mini, or an old PowerMac, it would be a pretty wise investment in saved costs and avoided downtime.
Are you confusing libertarian with liberal?
+1 Funny

Might be more of a headache than it is worth.

So yeah, give me a maxed out Mac Mini instead.
Is that where one gets the latest copy of Apple's OSX operating system, ersion 10.4, named Tiger?
I don't know why a lot of posters classify OSX as simply eye candy, or sleek and pretty, with no substance, like a "dumb bimbo."
I doubt you could find anyone that used Windows and OSX to claim that OSX is not more usable and better designed and thought out than Windows.
OSX has the beauty and the brains, and it isn't fair to keep classifying it as just pretty eye-candy.

Symlinks that point to all kinds of scripts with conditional if, else, fi statements at that.
Shouldn't the parent post be mod'd flamebait and not insightful?
:P
Looks like you share Steve Jobs' ideas about higher education!
Sorry, I couldn't stop myself.

OSX on my ThinkPad by Christmas.
My ThinkPad doesn't have an Intel Inside sticker on it, so I doubt it would be required of apple.
